Dykes promoted, OJ Jones returns

Posted by Darren Urban on September 16, 2009 – 10:35 am

The Cardinals have added defensive lineman Keilen Dykes to the active roster to take the spot of wide receiver Lance Long, who was, in fact, released. Long is gone for good, since Dykes’ practice squad spot will be taken by receiver Onrea Jones, who was recently on Washington’s practice squad for a couple weeks after the Cards’ cut him. Dykes had impressed coaches in the offseason and has a chance to develop, although he’ll have to battle to be active Sundays for now.

As for Long, no surprise to see he ended up on the Chiefs’ practice squad with former Cards OC Todd Haley. He always had an uphill battle behind five guys, and now that Early Doucet looks like he is coming back, Long — who had struggled and dropped a pass against San Francisco — didn’t have a place on the active roster.

Worried about Warners hip his passing looks like it hurts him and on Sunday I swear he ws looking at the rush for the first time in a while. He must have missed 4 touchdown passes guys were runnning free and didnt see em. I dont think he is healthy, why not give Matt more reps in practice just in case he has to come in because I dont think Warner is telling the whole truth about his hip pain.

I like what Onrea Jones did in the preseason. Next to J. Urban likely was the next best receiver during preseason play. He didn’t drop any passes, even made some good plays coming back to the ball. Good to know he is back in the mix.

Two really good pieces of news. I do think Dykes would have made the squad to begin with had he been healthy. And as much as I was happy for Long when he made it, I would have been happier had they kept Jones in the first place. I think he’s got more upside for sure.
