Sweating here in Jacksonville

Posted by Darren Urban on September 19, 2009 – 12:52 pm

Well, with the local story today about the Florida-Tennessee college game (and the game is starting as I write this) and with the temperature in the high 80s with better than 50 percent humidity, there’s no question tomorrow’s game will be a big one for the Cardinals. It’s tough not to think back to last season, when the Cards were kind of sluggish in the first game and then exploded against a Florida team in the second game. Of course, the Jaguars seem to be in a different place than the Dolphins were last season at this point, and, of course, the Cards were home for the Dolphins game.

Stopping Maurice Jones-Drew will be the key to the game for the Cards’ defense. Yeah, I know that isn’t rocket science, but you still have to pull it off. Ultimately, though, this game will come down to the Cardinals’ offense. If they play like they can — and score points like they can — the Cards should be fine.

Assuming WR Steve Breaston doesn’t have another game-day setback, he should be available, and there is no question in my mind Anquan Boldin looks much better than he was. I know Boldin claimed this week he was still where he needed to be despite his hamstring problems, but it clearly affected his game. A healthy Boldin changes so many things.

I think the defense is comming together fine, but the offense does not seem to be on the same page together. Maybe it is because of the injuries and players not working together, but I doubt it. With all the penelties they don’t appear to have there heads in the game. I don’t know how to change things, but they are giving the season away, the way they are playing. I wish them luck I hope they can work it out. I am cheering for them.
