Darren,
Whats the status of Michael Ray Garvin? Is he still with the team. He showed some upside in pre-season.
Thanks for the great coverage all season long!

MRG was eventually released after landing briefly on IR. At this point, I do not expect him to return after the play of Stephens-Howling as kick returner.

He’s already with the Lions.

Michael Ray Garvin signed with the Lions after the season. I think it was a futures contract ,too if I’m not mistaken.

Darren,
Hard not to consider an Olympic Athlete that has the speed such as MRG. I know he has little to no football experience in the pro’s but all considered if he can run like flash all you have to do is teach the guy to catch the ball and not let go.

Tell the Cardinals to draft 8 defensive ends/LBs in the draft this year…..trade Boldin, cut or trade McFadden, not sure about Dansby, Okeafor and Berry are done. Game is won in the trenches and all we need is some decent pressure on the outside which continues to kill us when it matters……PS. Still don’t understand why we didn’t grind Beanie Wells into the Saints defense. Great season though…..GO CARDS!

Hard to imagine the Cards extending or re-signing any of their core players this offseason (not to mention possible free agents) without first getting a deal done with Coach Whisenhunt. As I understand, Whiz is now entering the final year of his four-year deal. I don’t know what kind of message management sends to it’s players and fans if they decide to let Whiz to serve out the last year of his contract as a lame duck after he guided to team to it’s first Super Bowl and back-to-back playoff wins since the mid-1970′s.
I know the potential work stoppage in 2011 will play a role in contract negotiations, but it would seem that if there is any kind of stoppage, the Cards would at least want the coaching part of their brain trust secured to navigate through any labor storm.
Related: According to NFL.com on January 19, the Charges have signed coach Norv Turner to a contract extension through 2013.

Whisenhunt’s deal does “end” after 2010, but the Cardinals hold a team option for the 2011 season.

Whew. Thanks Darren!

Jesus,
Dockett still has 2 years left on the deal he signed. The Cards have decided not to redo contracts with more than one year remaining. And how much could it hurt if we lost him? Would we have given up 60 points to Green Bay and New Orleans?

Coach Whiz,
Beyond the losses to the 49′ers and that Vince Young vs Matt Leinhart with no reps with the first string loss, to the Boldin injury in a meaningless game, the GB onside kick and the 15 straight weeks of football Coach Whiz is still doing a great job.
Team Speed!!!!!
The Cardinals need more overall team speed. Lets talk defense first. I understand the concept of experience on a team but we don’t have the speed on the DL and OLB to truly play a 3-4 defense that today’s NFL requires. Ya they did OK with sacks, better on 3rd down during the season yet still teams moved the ball fairly easy on our “bend but don’t break D” we need speed to get to the QB consistantly. Our OLB situatuion is not looking good, and we need better DB play I mean some of the DB’s the Cards have would not even make another NFL roster. When you look at teams like the Colts, Saints, Vikings, and Jets their defenses have speed all over the field they can pressure the QB and stop the run and pass. I know Coach Whiz calls Dennis Green all the time saying thanks for the Offense skill players, but Defense wins Super Bowls.
Talk Offense tommorrow

If the cards do trade Boldin as much as i hate thinking that i would love to see them get Revis. can you imagine Revis and DRC in the secondary with wilson and rolle? There wouldnt be and more games like in the playoffs. Plus Doucet has showed he will be a solid third reciever and Breaston already proved he can play 2 I know it has almost 0% chance of happening but its nice to pretend.

The Jets will never let Revis go anywhere. And frankly, a top cover corner is more valuable than a great receiver.

Any one know if they are going to re-sign Darnell Dockett ?, it would be a certain fauliure if they dont do that.
By Mr. Know It All on Jan 20, 2010 | Reply
On Offense the scoreboard lights up like July 4th. But can Leinhart get it done if (when) Warner retires? Will Matt go to Seattle to reunite with Coach PC? Will Q tough it out and keep working for that big pay day for one more season? The OL may play even better next year and we have some backups that should push for 1st team.

The Cards could extend Darnell but be clear: Dockett is under contract for two more years.

WR Onrea Jones: Can he catch the ball and not fumble?
CB Rashard Barksdale: More upside than Mike Adams?
LB Ali Highsmith: Still getting healthy.
WR Ed Gant: Does he have speed?
DE Ryan Kees: Good size for DE
G Jonathan Palmer: Who?
T Tom Pestock: Who?
LB Mark Washington: Ya we need more LB’s

Cowboys just extended the contract for Wade Phillips (1/21):

As noted above, Norv Turner also extended earlier this week.
Neither of these coaches have reached the Super Bowl. Ken Whisenhunt has.
