Coach, GM get their new deals

Posted by Darren Urban on February 25, 2010 – 3:14 pm

As we have said, new contracts today for coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves. Given the possible roster churning going on, I think having stability at the top was crucial. It seemed like a no-brainer too, since this was the duo that guided the Cards to a Super Bowl. I’m headed down to talk to Whisenhunt and Graves soon and will have more info then, but again, there isn’t much more to say other than — Whiz is sticking around.

That is very good news! I was looking for them to step up to the plate and keep this ride going.

    AWESOME!!!

Current and future players (FAs, rookies, new coach hires) need to know what to expect from leadership as the offseason progresses.

These contract renewals serve notice that the Bidwills’ are indeed serious about continuing to build upon the winning tradition established since Whiz’s arrival. I never doubted that, but am glad the deal is done and announced so fans on the outside can put that concern to rest.

The cards have and may lose alot of talented players. But there’s no doubt in my mind whiz will work his magic for years to come. There was a time I wasn’t thrilled with graves and he has made some mistakes but we are truely blessed to have him as our gm. He has done a admirable job IMO. Now let’s get started on building a superbowl winner!! :-)

Great move to get whisenhunt signed long-term but graves, it depends on this offseason.

One of the best Head Coaches in the League. Graves is good too, I’m happy.

Thats GREAT NEWS!Graves should make his first order of business signing the new free agent out of Houston, cb D.Robinson. With Him and DRC, a team weakness becomes a team strength.

Finally, some good news!!! Stability at the top has been non-existent for so long with this team…it’s hard to believe – but great to see – that the Cardinals have one of the best head coach / GM combos in the NFL right now. Looking back, I’m SOOOO glad now that Whisenhunt landed in Arizona instead of Pittsburg after Cowher left. The Steelers and Mike Tomlin may have won that Super Bowl ( barely, I might add ) last year but I truly believe that Cardinals will be better off in the long run. Heck, when ya look at what happened to the Steelers this past season, I think we can say that Cardinals already ARE better off. And one more thing – Whisenhunt should be one of the highest paid coaches in the league, because he is already one of the best coaches in the league. When is the last time a Cardinals fan could say that???

“Whisenhunt’s contract, which also has a team option for 2014, puts him among the five highest-paid coaches in the NFL, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora…” :)

I am so thankful that the Steelers didn’t pick Whisenhunt as their head coach a few years ago so the Cards could get him. I truly believe that it took special talent and skills to turn the Cards around, and Whiz and his staff had what it took to get the job done. I’m glad the Cards extended his contract so he and the players can focus on the future.

Anyone else think the steelers are kicking themselves in the butt? Ah who cares….IN WHIZ I TRUST…

This is great news. Now the positions at the top are settled, free agents will know exactly who is in charge and can make informed decisions about deciding whether or not to become Cards. Players may leave but that is not necessarily bad because there is the opportunity to upgrade the problem areas.

First it was John Lott, now Coach Whiz and GM Rod Graves (who I think goes under the radar as one of the best GM’s in the NFL). Cardinals upper management is truly committed to getting back into the Super Bowl, and as fans thats all we ever wanted!

    Go Cardinals!

    CardsRep –

Well, I think Whisenhunt is a good coach but I doubt the Steelers are crying. The man who they picked over Whisenhunt did win a Super Bowl in his second season.

Thank You, Bidwill’s for opening your wallets. Now lets sign our core of players. Thank You, again. GREAT DAY TO BE A CARDINAL.

Many, many thanks go to the Bidwell’s. You stepped up to the plate once again. To Whiz and Rod, thankyou for staying to continue building a franchise that will become feared in the NFL. Also, thanks must go to the Steelers for a lousy management decision in letting Whiz slip out of the door.
    GO CARDS

SWEET! we need whiz and graves and we thank the bidwells for keeping the great coaching staff going, But how about we do what we never did before, sign players that were excellent. I can think of a couple that need new contracts so we can keep the great set of players we have.

Im glad to hear that coach whisenhunt is stayin but i feel like we need another quarterback to try and fill Kurt Warners leadership roll. i think if the fans stick with them we can have another oppurtunity in the playoffs next year. GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!!

Congrats Whis and Graves. I’m happy we’re keeping both. Now let’s see what product they put on the field this year because we’re going to see a lot of new faces in the starting lineup in 2010.

what are the chances of us maybe letting rackers go and get feeley and the chance of maybe trying to sign bullock or brakett..and theres somethin on the insider the said boldin is out of az for draft picks?

  28. By darrenurban on Feb 26, 2010 | Reply

    Gordo –

Nothing has been decided with Anquan. As far as Brackett, he’s a Cover 2 linebacker and wouldn’t fit Arizona. Bullock is coming off injury. At kicker, Rackers remains a 50/50 proposition to return.
