A cut — and other stuff — for charity

Posted by Darren Urban on April 6, 2010 – 11:28 am

Would you be willing to let A-Dub shave your head?

That’s the concept behind Saturday’s “Shave-off for Jack” fundraiser. Adrian Wilson and Steve Breaston will be taking part as celebrity barbers to shave off the hair to show support for Jack, a little boy who was diagnosed in March with Neuroblastoma — a rare form of childhood cancer. For a $20 donation, you can get your head shaved and for an additional 10 bucks, Wilson or Breaston will man the shears. You get the bald look plus a T-shirt. The event is taking place at Loco Patron in Scottsdale (4228 N. Scottsdale Rd) from 2 to 6 p.m. (To make an online donation, go to http://www.jacksfight.blogspot.com).

Matt Leinart is having his second annual celebrity golf tournament to raise money for his foundation Saturday, too, out at the Raven at South Mountain golf course in Phoenix, beginning at 1 p.m.

And strength and conditioning coach John Lott will be holding his annual football camp out in Chandler at The Grove. UPDATE: Click here to register for Lott’s camp. Cost is $45 for kids in the second to eighth grade, and it runs from 8:30 a.m. (check-in) to 1 p.m. Lott will have various Cardinals, like Wilson and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, on hand to help.

It’ll a busy day for the Cards in the community.

What was the bet that Mcnabb would be a cardinal. Dylan why would URB care about a bet you made??? He has more important things going on like silencing the fans that seems to think that Bulger and Campbell are taking St.Pierre’s spot.
Hey Urb, any news on St. Pierre is he really that close to being signed back with us?

Well, since St. Pierre was quoted as saying he was coming back I would trust he would know.

The Cards have a history of philanthropic players, from Neil Lomax to Kurt Warner, from Roy Green to Larry Fitz, from Gene Stallings to Coach Whiz, etc… Heck, according to this site, Arizona has donated over 3.5 mil to needy organizations from Sierra Vista to Tucson to Flagstaff.
And even the new guys are in the giving mood. Joey Porter helps special needs children, Jay Feely recently participated in a golf tournament that raised over 200G’s for child care, Rex Hadnot gives monies to help out MS and Stevie Baggs has a “life camp” for kids.
Nice to see that Cardinals fans can be proud of what the players do OFF the field as well as ON.

It’s times like these that drive me crazy that I had to move to Illinois for work. I remember going to the Rockin’ Rodeo for draft parties and mingling with players and cheerleaders, I had a chance to meet Kent Grahm, Adrian Murell, Garth Jax Renaldo Hill and Kwamie Lassiter at Sun Devil Stadium when I would show up way early for games. I would LOVE the chance to participate in charity events the Cardinals do. But such is life. I hope everyone who has a chance to go to any of these events has a really good time and If you bring your kids they will always remember it. Of course if you have kids you know that. Have fun.

Darren, do you have an idea of whether or not the Cards still give money to Warner’s and Berry’s foundation, now that they’re retired?
And do they still contribute to Dansby’s IHaveaSprainedToeDNP and Rolle’s JapaneseBlossomLotionExcuse organizations?

Wow, I forgot about Rolle’s lotion.

I don’t know specifically about Warner and Berry. The Cards still donated manpower and the space for Warner to have his flag football tournament.
