A-Dub’s “new” number

Posted by Darren Urban on April 30, 2010 – 2:18 pm

Adrian Wilson, who hasn’t practiced in his standard No. 24 jersey for as long as I can remember, has switched things up again. In the past, the Pro Bowl safety would wear the No. 2 in practice. That, he said, was to remind him he was still striving to be No. 1 (It’s all about the motivation). Then the Cards came out Friday morning and suddenly, Wilson was wearing No. 9, and I was fairly certain it wasn’t to commemorate ex-teammates Dirk Johnson or Shane Boyd. Nor did I think that suddenly, Wilson was striving to be the eighth-best safety out there.

There was, of course, a good reason. Wilson is scheduled to have his number retired by his high school in early June. And Wilson’s number in high school? He was 9, of course. “I’m going throwback,” Wilson said.

One of the funniest things I ever heard was one year a long time ago up in camp I asked AW why he wore 2, he told me and my daughter that he wears 24 but hits so hard the 4 must have fallen off.

So I was watching NFL network today and they were asking analyst who was the team to beat in each division for 2010. Well the first Warren Sapp said that the Cards have lost to much and won’t be able to recover and picked the Seatlle Seahawks to take the division. Then the second Rod Woodson said now that Kurt is gone and Matt has takin over the helm we are going to be the same Old Cards. Well all I have to say is this the same old cards are the ones who thrive off everybody’s doubt, so I hope we do keep to the same old Cards and thrive off everybody’s boubt once again and go to the Superbowl and this time win it with Lienart at the helm.

    Arizona Cardinals 2010 Baby Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year, during training camp’s Red and White Scrimmage, one of the 15,000 “sardines” in our section wondered aloud who the dude with #2 was, since he wasn’t on the Cards roster sheet. Someone else shouted “Adrian Wilson!”, and without missing a beat the confused fan shouted back, “Well, he’s half the player he used to be!”
Though last season’s TC was extremely crowded, I honestly hope it gets worse this year, it means people care about the Cards.

A-Dub is far and away my favorite Cardinal. Cards brass better make sure he finishes out his new contract and retires a Cardinal, they better not pull what Philly did when they let Dawkins walk. I don’t care if he is out there in a jazzy scooter, as long as he is playing he better be wearing 24 in red and white (and now black).
