Gant suspended four games
Posted by on June 21, 2010 – 3:52 pmWell, Ed Gant’s chances to be the Cards’ fourth receiver — and even to make the team — aren’t going to be helped by Monday’s announcement that he has been suspended for the first four regular-season games because he violated the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
The suspension means Gant can participate in training camp and the preseason, but he has to disappear for a month once the regular season starts (just like tight end Ben Patrick last year). If he has a good camp, it makes roster choices harder at the end of camp. The one good thing is Gant wouldn’t count against the 53-man roster while he is out.
Still, with O.J. Jones having a better offseason and the Cards spending a third-round pick on Andre Roberts, this isn’t great timing for Gant — as if this could ever be timed well.

Jones seemed to be having a pretty decent camp last year. I think if Jones has been working hard Gant is out.

What did he do? Take caffeine pills?

i want to see a list of the nfl banned substance list and the approval list too. It seems like everyone is getting busted for banned substances.

This sucks for Gant. I too wonder what he took that is banned by the NFL. For all we know, he had a regular protein drink that has something banned in it. Some of the substances that are banned are ridiculously common

DARREN – Am I in a time warp or are you already back from vacation?…….A question in general that has bothered me for a while is – Do the majority of the guys who get busted for banned substances do it intentionally? or are most just victims of their own ignorance and the complexity of the rules?

Darren,
A lot of teams are signing their draft picks. Any word on the Cards getting the draftees under contract? Would be nice to see a complete roster at the first training camp.

Cut.
Fitz
Breaston
Doucet
Roberts
Jones
He was not going to be on the 53 anyway. Plus I think Mougey’s size, and Stephen Williams speed would make Gant an early cut anyway. They should just do it now, and get it out of the way.
They need to cut 4 in order to sign all the rookies.

I am officially back next week.
As for your other question, I suppose, in the end, that is only an answer those players know in their heart of hearts. They all say they make a mistake. Whether that is true or not …

The Cards will get there. It’s been a while since a lingering rookie holdout has caused a problem. I don’t see this year changing.

Hey Darren,
Bet you’d hate to have news like this on your VACA, but really was Gant’s only shot at the team was Morey’s replacement? Is that pretty much S. Williams, and D. Mougey chance also, to be on Special Teams?

who is ed gant?

I think anyone not named Fitzgerald and maybe Breaston needs to have special teams ability.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!
My only comment besides the above is – Gant takes some sort of drug, hurts himself, no criminal intent – 4 game suspension.
Rothelsberger – sexually assaults two women, drags Pittsburgh through the slime, gets 6 game suspension with possibility of only 4 (I’m betting on 4)
IMHO the criminal assaults trump stupid. Don’t get me wrong, don’t excuse stupid, but I do think assault, shooting yourself and other criminal actions deserve much more than what Gant got.

yeah man I agree you Darren. I can read the ingredients on the back of whatever I buy to eat or drink well enough to know whats in it. I’m sure they can too. We are only human man. We all have tried to get away with something at one point in your live. This young man still needs to grow up a little bit…. In my opinion.
Hope your enjoying your time off D!

DARREN: NEXT WEEK!?…..your “vacations” have hereby officially been renamed—BUSMAN’S HOLIDAYS—-speaking of “performance enhancers”…what’s the chance the cheerleaders will be subject to random testing…..looks to me like some of them …………lol

you have to feel for a guy on the bubble making a bad choiice. i dont put it in the same category as mark mcquire cheating purely for added glory. But then again there is a guy on the bubble who isn’t cheating that just might make the team now. I hope if they elect to keep him around for those first four games i hope they give a guy like the sheik a chance for those weeks.

Darren- have you heard anything on the cardinals talking to darwin walker about a possible comeback? What this team needs is more old people.
By darrenurban on Jun 23, 2010 | Reply
Brad –
I think it is safe to say that isn’t happening.
Besides, the way it ended here with Darwin when he was a rookie, I’m not sure Arizona would be his top choice.

unrelated topic. according to the nfl network, someone or something has ranked 19 teams ahead of the cardinals this year. i know we are transitioning a bit this year but that seems a tad disrespectful to me. when your vacation is over, darren, maybe you can give us your thoughts about this. thanks

guess the Bulger talk will end finally…funny that Q gets him

hope your enjoying your vacation
is this for real:
Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui, a restricted free agent who skipped the team’s offseason workout program, apparently got plenty of exercise bending his elbow and using his jaw.
Mike Jurecki of Xtra Sports 910 in Phoenix reports that Lutui recently weighed in at nearly 400 pounds.
Specifically, Lutui tipped the scales at 396 pounds.
In last year’s NFL Record & Fact Book, Lutui is listed as six feet, four inches and 338 pounds

I haven’t heard about Lutui’s weight one way or the other.
By brad oneill on Jun 25, 2010 | Reply
word has it that coach Lott can’t wait to ride piggy back on duece to the top of camelback mountain. I hope that 396 number is just mike Jurecki exaggerating a little but if not i think duece is in for a very rough next couple of weeks.

Brad –
Veterans — including Deuce — aren’t back with Lott for the most part until camp. I am assuming Deuce is one of the players who won’t be around the facility.
By brad oneill on Jun 26, 2010 | Reply
Darren so you dont think showing up at 396 pounds is enough to get your selfvdemoted to rookie status in Whiz’s book?
seriously though I hope Duece is ok. He may have been depressed about the whole contract situation and let things get out of hand. This could be a career ender and that would be a shame.
