Beanie a game-day decision

Posted by Darren Urban on September 17, 2010 – 12:36 pm

With the Cardinals set to fly out to Atlanta soon, RB Beanie Wells will end up as a game-day decision again this week. He had some swelling on his knee after Thursday, coach Ken Whisenhunt said, and that left him fairly limited Friday. But the Cards will work him out Sunday and see where he is. “He really wants to play,” Whisenhunt said, although I would think the Cards would want to be careful with him.

The Fieldturf in the Georgia Dome does make a difference in the decision as well. It does seem to affect the players. “Yeah it does, I think, at least that’s the feedback I get from the players, whether it is real or imagined,” Whisenhunt said. “But you stand on it and you do feel it.”

As for WR Early Doucet, he had his hernia surgery Friday morning. Whisenhunt always knew a hernia was possible after Doucet first got hurt in preseason. “We were trying to hold it off as long as possible, hoping he could make it through the season,” Whisenhunt said. Then Doucet took that big shot in St. Louis after a catch. “It got to the point where lets get it done get it back and have 11 games with him,” Whisenhunt added.

    Darren,

At what point do you see the FO cutting their losses with Doucet? I know he’s a potentially great receiver, but he seems to be constantly injured.

    Darren,
Is tim going to see his carries cut down due to last week? Or will he get a clean slate due to beanie’s knee?

    Hey Darren,

I don’t think Beanie will play Sunday based on Whiz’s
comments. Swelling on the knee- not a good sign. Is Jason Wright ready to go this week???
I’m sure he can give us a few touches!!! Also–
Calais Campbell getting fined for the hit on Bradford
    —pretty ridiculous???

Ugh not another game-day decision for Beanie. God speed on the recovery Early.

It’s become harder to hold out hope for Doucet, but…what else can we do? Eleven games with him? That would be a miracle for this guy. Shame he can’t stay healthy. Shame for him, shame for us! Well, we know that any players injury is someone else’s opportunity, so…let’s see more of Williams.

    Darren,

Gut feeling on whether or not Beanie dresses and plays.

    Darren,
Great story on DRC, I knew that he played on one side a lot and i was wondering
why they don’t line him up on the best receiver?

I saw one time on NFL network with Deion Sanders talking about a true cover corner goes where the best receiver goes. He said he if they play one side of the field they are not a true shutdown corner. He used Nnamdi Asomugha as the example.*

I am guessing it is because of the defensive scheme we use, but what do I know?

*Disclaimer: By no means do I think this, It just remembered Deion Saying this.

Ok, I think that given all the issues we’ve had with Beanie, he is not going to play on Sunday. Early is most definitely out for another 5-6 games.

Darren, do you know if Fitz is feeling a bit better now? Did DA get to practice more with Fitz? Also, since Early is out, who is now in the roster for us?

Wow Darren, that end part on the DRC page where Ken Whisenhunt says that arizona had grown on him and this is now his home looks outstanding for our future.

Darren, I had seen that the Cards will be practicing at the Georgia Tech facility saturday, do you know what kind of restrictions are on that for public viewing or if is closed. Thanks.

Darren which running style do you like more from beanie and hightower? I like both of them and they complement each others running style. I hope that beanie plays but I have always liked hightower as a runningback even when the cards drafted him in the 5th round

So is Andre Roberts going to be playing more than Stephen Williams?

    RE: Doucet

I just asked Whisenhunt about that Monday and he said it’s not a factor right now. They’re not going to do it yet.

I think if Beanie is out they need Hightower.

Yes, Jason is ready to go. As for the CC hit, it was a good call. As for a fine, you’re going to get fined if you are flagged for something like that.

    RE: Beanie/DRC

They will use all four RBs, yes. As for DRC, I don’t know if they will use him to shadow White.

    RE: DRC

Its the way they like to play. Plus, when players play a side rather than shifting, it’s a lot easier to disguise different looks without teams knowing what is coming.

    RE: Fitz/DA/Early

Fitz is working to get back, but he may actually play a little less this week. DA is getting practice with Fitz. Andre Roberts will be active this week with Early out.

Immediate swelling after practice, usually blood which means more damage than a strain or bruise. Since Im sure every team in the league has an orthopod who can read the tea leafs also, why not just come out with it. I’m sure they have tapped the knee. If he’s still filling up with blood at this point he’s done for 6 weeks minimum. Better get that greatest show on turf offense running on all cyinders and hope the o-line can give DA a couple more seconds in the pocket than they used to give KW.

DRC needs to shadow the best receiver on each team, he’s that damn good!

Beanie is out. I don’t think Whiz-in-consistent-hunt likes Beanie, expect him to be traded.

I think that’s a pretty big leap in logic.
