Dockett going to Pro Bowl

Posted by Darren Urban on January 22, 2011 – 2:36 pm

Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, who was named a Pro Bowl alternate last month, is headed to the game. He’ll replace Minnesota’s Kevin Williams (who had already replaced Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh) and join teammate Adrian Wilson in Hawaii (plus, if the Packers beat the Bears in the NFC Championship, Larry Fitzgerald is expected to replace Green Bay’s Greg Jennings for the Pro Bowl, since Jennings will obviously have other things to do next week.

This is Dockett’s third Pro Bowl.

    Darren,

With Tramon Williams being named to the Pro Bowl, isn’t DRC next in line if the Pack goes to the Super Bowl?

Well then I hope the Packers win tomorrow so Larry can play! He deserves it. And now he can finally have a QB who can throw to him, even if it’s just one game.

    @JohnnyV,
I think you meant if GB’s Charles Woodson made it to the SB, then DRC would be the possible alternate.
Woodson, Rodgers-Cromartie and Dockett- does any of the three REALLY deserve a spot in being called a 2010 elite?

  9. By Rugbymuffin on Jan 22, 2011 | Reply

Good for Dockett. He deserves, especially after this season.

He went from talking about how he didn’t know what he was playing for, to playing injured, and playing 100% while doing, and doing so in games that meant “nothing”.

That is a leader, and someone to build around.

Again, much deserved. Hope he has a good time.

    @JohnnyV deuce,
Tramon Williams IS the first alternate, but if GB makes the SB neither Willliams nor Woodson will obviously go. DRC is an alternate, but the team(like many) doesn’t disclose what position they are in the food chain.
Bigger question is why wasn’t Feely named a possible backup at PK?

Jay is an alternate. Not sure which one.

Hey Darren has Larry signed a new contract yet ? Because if he hasn’t I would hate to see him in the Pro bowl, wouldn’t like any of them other players putting ideas in his head about joining there team. If you know what I mean.

Congrats to Dockett, he deserves it. You don’t stop being who you are off of one bad year.

Do you expect for the cardinals to have a good offseason??

  15. By wayne on Jan 22, 2011 | Reply

As you guys all know I am a die hard CARDINAL fan but no way in hell DOCKETT should be going to the pro bowl ! He way underachieved and right after signing a etended contract.

MAYBE NEXT YEAR HE CAN ACTUALLY EARN IT !!!

I’ve been reading for the last few weeks on this blog about how many people think Dennis Green was this draft guru and Whiz won with his people. Lets take a look.

2004- Green’s first year. He entered this draft with Josh McCown and Shawn King as his QB’s.
1st pick Larry Fitzgerald- tough to argue about this pick, but he passed on Phillip Rivers and Big Ben with McCown as your QB. Hmm? But I’m OK with saying good pick.
2nd round- Dansby, 3rd round- Dockett, 5th round – Antonio Smith
    Overall, an “A” draft.

2005- After going back and forth with Shawn King and Josh McCown, he brings in a Warner who has been cut by 2 teams to back up McCown.
1st round- Antrel Rolle- With Aaron Rodgers on the board, Green takes a guy who flops at CB and will later be moved to safety.
2nd thru 7th gets worse. JJ Arington, Eric Green, Darryl Blackstock, Elton Brown, Lance Mitchell, and Leron McCoy.
This was an absolute bust of a draft. Rolle played well in 2008 and Arrington became a nice roll player. But overall, passing on Rodgers, and missing with almost every pick sure didn’t help Coach Whiz.

2006- Still needing a QB, Green takes Leinart over Cutler with the 10th pick.
Again he followed this up with Deuce Lutui, Leonard Pope, Gabe Watson, Brandon Johnson, Jonathon Lewis, and Todd Watkins.
Besides Lutui, this was another bust of a draft. Especially considering his pick of Leinart over Cutler.

To say he brought in Warner, he started Leinart and was using Warner as a backup. Whiz switch them. So where are these great drafts? Can we end this thought that Whiz won with Green’s drafts? Besides 2004, (and again,I love Fitz but I can agree with the argument that Rivers or Big Ben should have been chosen), Green’s drafts were bust.

Dockett still had 5 sacks this year, he didn’t have as good a year as last year, but he would dominate for stretches and then kinda not dominate. Fitz deserves to go too, dealing with that horrible QB situation, but i’m not really rooting for any team though.

Adrian Wilson did not have a good year, i love him as a player, but he got beat time and time again by Tight Ends this season, and he wasn’t the experienced leader he normally is, for example in Cowboys game he got drawn offsides on 4th and short! A first down that lead to a TD for the Cows. I’m sure he tried hard all season long, but his performance does not merit a probowl spot. We will never beat SF 49ers if Wilson can’t learn to cover the TE. I would prefer to see him move up as a linebacker, but we currently don’t have enough depth at safety to do that.

I don’t agree with this. Dockett is only good when he wants to be. I have one of his jerseys so don’t get me wrong I love the guy, but I can’t stand when he takes so many plays off. He didn’t give his best effort this year.

For the life of me, I can’t help but hope Green Bay wins, because Fitzgerald can’t go unless Greg Jennings is unavailable to go. I guess it is possible he will go if Jennings can’t handle another football game if they end up losing. I really have developed a rival kind of mentality when it comes to the Green Bay Packers. They gave LSH, my favorite young Cardinal, a concussion in the preseason last year. This is 9-0’s third Pro Bowl out of the last four years, and I’m happy for him… hopefully he’ll be a dominant DT under a Cardinals helmet for a long time.

I absolutely love Dockett, but he doesn’t deserve it this year. Neither does Fitz or AW. Rhodes and Feely both do, however.

Great News he should be top DT cmon he’s everywhere & is always double teamed & still manages to be disruptive they never give Darnell credit COWBOYS VS CARDINALS Pro Bowler Jay Ratliff Vs Darnell Dockett Dockett had 2 sacks while Ratliff did nothing cmon man I hope Larry gets Jennings position despite having a crappy year he still managed to make great catch’s & always keeps a great positive atitude Rhoads also deserves credit

  25. By Pheenic Cromartie on Jan 23, 2011 | Reply

I actually think he deserved it, because all year he was double-teamed, and still got decent stats.

I’m glad to see Fitz, Adrian Wilson, and Darnell Dockett make the Pro Bowl, because they’re the face(es) of our franchise.

dockett was playing through an injury. that shoulder was worse than the cards let on. his drop off was not lack of effort he really came on strong at the end of the year when i a lot of people would have just given up because the season was over. dockett deserves the pro bowl for effort even if the results werent what he and us are used too.

I hope he enjoys some Mai Tais and gets a little time on the beach. because next year he is going to be making up for some lost time.

PS that picture made me think for a minute that Whiz said hey dockett go get us a quarterback for next year, and he found one.

Since evryone is throwing in their two cents I’ll put in mine. I think DD had a better year this year than last. He made quite a few plays behind the line of scrimmage, 5 sacks, more pressures, and he made his teamates better.

I think because he got his contract there was a perception that he slowed up. Unbelievably, there were comparisons to Eric Burns! Judge with your eyes people not what you read/hear.

Good to see some of our guys making it to the Pro Bowl…Heck, we ain’t got anything else to root for these days…

    Darren,
Adam Schefter reported that longtime Steeler’s DC Dick LeBeau’s contract expires after Pittsburgh’s season ends.
Could it be that Whiz is targeting LeBeau instead of Keith Butler? Why wouldn’t Pittsburgh try to re-sign someone that’s been instrumental in their success for several years? Age? Money?
Looks like someone threw another wrench in the decision making process.

Darren, there is some chatter about the cards and dick lebeau next year, that would be cool.

  31. By D on Jan 23, 2011 | Reply

Before everyone jumps on the Carson banwagon, his contract is not friendly..11.5m in 2011 and in 2012 then it goes up from there, over 50mil over 4yrs left of the deal…not a deal AZ should take on…

Let’s put 90 in a 3-4 with no LB support, no nose tackle and no DC and wonder why he had an off year

Got to love that Leinart is still on the fan poll on the home page.

This is the Cards future and at least it is entertaining:

Oh my, do you really think a 70+ year old man in the HOF at the peak of his career wants to leave one of the most successful organizations in the history of football to work for the Bidwills.

The ones who work for the Bidwills are the ones who lost their jobs in an orgaization moving forward.

    John the draft guy –

I 100% agree with you but the truth is the haters on here just don’t care.
    \
If Whiz said 2+2=4 they would argue he is wrong.

The only arguement anyone ever has is Adrian Petrerson over Levi Brown. They always forget 6 other teams passed on Peterson too.

These are the same people who watch the lottery numbers and say, those were my numbers.

Coach Whiz is a great coach that is paid well by the Bidwills. The team has kept a lot of their good players since moving to UoP stadium and will get the DC they want in either Butler or Lebaue.

Coach Whiz is modeling a lot of what he does on the Steelers. 15 out of 60 AFC championchip games. Not many people would argue with that sucsess, except the haters on here.
