A top 100 with Cards sprinkled in

Posted by Darren Urban on May 17, 2012 – 9:22 am

While the NFL Network continues to count down it’s top 100 current players in the NFL based on interviews with players — no Cards on the list from 61-100, which is all that has been unveiled at this point — CBSsports.com’s Pete Prisco put out his own annual top 100 list today, which has four Cards on it. It just so happens to  be the last four Cards to receive significant contract extensions, so at least one person agrees with the organization’s line of thinking.

Prisco bases his list in part on talks with scouts but a lot of his findings are based on his own eyes and what he has seen on tape after covering the NFL for many, many years. His rankings and notes on the Cards on his list:

No. 9 WR Larry Fitzgerald “He once again put up big numbers, despite little help on the other side and so-so quarterback play.” Fitz was ranked 18th by Prisco last year.
No. 58 DE Calais Campbell “The Cardinals rewarded him with a big contract last week for a reason. He was their best defensive player last season.” Campbell wasn’t ranked last season.
No. 70 S Adrian Wilson “He’s been one of my favorites for a long time and bounced back from a subpar 2010 season to play at his usual high level. The amazing thing is he did it with a torn biceps tendon. Wow.” Ranked 44th last season.
No. 92 DE Darnell Dockett “He wasn’t as good as Campbell last season, but he’s still one of the better down lineman in the league. Dockett plays with a nasty streak.” Ranked 73rd last season.

Of course, these are all just opinion. But that’s what we all do this time of year when it comes to the NFL.

    RE: DWash

Then I would assume he’d be pretty high on the top 100 list you will be putting out.

Not to pick on Prisco’s logic, but he notes how impressed he was with Wilson’s rebound from 2010 to 2011, and then drops him 26 spots. ???

Dwash Needs to have a repeat season numbers wise and I think he’ll make the list holding on to the three picks he droped this yr proble would have pushed him into the 90-100 area I think

also on 2 of the picks that slipped away from him he had a clear lane to end zone which would have sure got him on list an proble the probowl as well…excited to see wat he does this yr.

No 2P on his list I guess making the Pro bowl doesnt cut it anymore 5 Cardinals should make the Top 100 for NFL Network I know 2 will for sure Wilson & Fitz im already dissapointed in the countdown ARIZONA CARDINALS always get overlooked

Darnell Dockett should find a new hobby or hangout soon because he’s running out of body space for new tattoos. Unless he chooses to have them removed only to start all over? Or, should we wait for the Mike Tyson face tattoo?

Seahawk fans must be delighted with Prisco’s poll only having one player, Earl Thomas, in at 96.

If you really look at the Cardinals, they have a really talented team.

    Darren,

Did A-dub have off-season surgery to repair his torn biceps? If so, how is his recovery coming along?

    RE: Wilson biceps

He said when the season ended he wouldn’t need surgery. He’s been fine, working out like normal. Not an issue anymore.

In MY opinion, there is NO WAY Larry Fitzgerald can be ranked outside the top 10, period. Having him at #9 is fine. Having him at 18??? No. There are NOT 17 players in this league that anyone can say are better than him right now. 2010 was just a lost season ( thank you, Derek Anderson, and whoever continued to put you on the field when it was obvious how god-awful you were ) and even Fitz couldn’t escape that. But the fact that our QB play was SOOOOO utterly dreadful should not have diminished his ranking. HIS talent level didn’t drop off.

Repeat performances THIS season from Beanie and Patrick Peterson may very well add a few more Cardinals to the list.
