Designing a flag that could put you on an NFL field

Posted by Darren Urban on July 12, 2012 – 4:26 pm

Perhaps you recall the move by the NFL last year, at the regular-season opener in Green Bay, to have every team represented by a flag held by a former player. In the Cards’ case, Ron Wolfley was given the honor. This year, though, it could be you in New York on that opening Thursday night.

The NFL is accepting flag ideas for each team from fans. Winners will be chosen and a flag will be developed for that team based on the concept. From the NFL:

– “Your vision is up to you. It can have elements representative of the city, the community, team traditions, the team’s fans, etc. … You will be required to describe your vision in essay format. Additionally, you have the option to upload an image depicting your design concept of your favorite NFL Team’s flag. Your image may be created in any fashion (i.e.: hand drawn, painted, digitally drawn, etc.). The image will only be used if your flag is a winning concept in order to assist our designers in carrying out your vision. The image will not be judged and therefore will not impact winner selection.”

The contest ends Saturday Sunday and as of now, I can promise there hasn’t been a ton of Cardinals entries — your chances are pretty good. So get to it. Click here for details.

Well PFT and the NFLN just did their annual pre-season dump on the Cardinals piece. What’s new, the Sun will rise from the east tomorrow.

    Darren-

Can you show us what last year’s flag looked like? Thanks.

Hey Darren, is there a reason that the videos on azcardinals.com are all lower quality than the ones on nfl.com? Are individual team’s websites run on different servers and have bandwidth constraints? Thanks for keeping the site updated in the off-season down time!

Sound like I may have a chance? It’s unique and different and will make sense at the and of the year when we win the division!!

A cardinal bird in the center of the flag with the motto “we do this together” below it. The flag would be black nd of course the letters in red, and put all the numbers fron the ring of honor scattered around, and at the bottom under “we do this together” “this one is for you patt”.

    RE: Video player

Have you looked recently? The videos now are using the same video player as NFL.com.

black flag with the cardinal in the verry center, with the motto “we do this together, and directly below that , “this one is for you patt.” then all the numbers from the ring of honor scattered around the flag, and the year they were placed in the ring of honor directly below their number.

I think PFT’s assessment of the Cards was spot on. Especially when they put this line in there. “While the PFT Power Rankings project Arizona to be among the league’s eight worst teams, we openly acknowledge that they could surpass our expectations, especially if the Cardinals get improved, consistent quarterback and running back play.”

Really enjoying the videos and rookie assessments. Do you know how many total of these there will eventually be? Thanks

Darren did you watch jerrt rice rank fitz as the top wide reciever in the nfl today? I was not suprised one bit. Maybe you could mention it as a post?

    Mike,
Darren does a great job, I agree. Remember your comment about Fitz?

    I did not see that.

I have noticed the new player and they still run at the same quality, that’s the only reason I asked. Even the season preview runs in HD on nfl.com and the video linked here doesn’t. Maybe it’s my browser

    Darren,

do you have any idea how many have submitted Cardinals entries for this contest?

Also, to anyone who wants to enter, you cannot create paragraphs in the 100 word essay and no apostrophes or quote marks in the second 200 word essay. It took forever to figure this out and be enabled to submit a flag concept.

Thanks for letting us know about this oppurtunity. Too bad the Cards aren’t playing in that game, maybe that’s why there haven’t been a ton of entries, no one wants to see the Cowboys and Giants playing. To think for that night, my second favorite team will be the Giants and the following week my second team is the Seahawks. I ‘m in for bad Karma next season.

Cards in New Orleans, February 2013.

I just want to thank you for highlighting this contest in your blog. If it wasn’t for you, I would have missed this contest, I would have not submitted my design concept, and I would not have won!

    So, THANKS!
