There is a very strong possibility this team finishes 5-11 or 6-10 which would put us in our normal drafting position with the 6th or 7th pick in the draft. Nothing new there, we'll get a player who will most likely be less than we need. No franchise QB or RB to kick start this offense. It appears to me nothing less than a complete housecleaning will remedy our woes. Of course that means another 2-3 years of re-building. Like a broken record (now that's old school for you) Big Red history keeps repeating. If the front office, Michael Bidwill, is really serious about having a contender, we need to get rid of Whiz, Graves and about half of the over priced vets we have on the roster. Make a blockbuster trade or two (trade Fitz or Dockett or a package deal and get a #1 or a couple #2s or an impact player). Another possibility is to release some of the dead weight and sign a couple high profile FAs. Something must be done or the team will continue to wallow in the middle to the bottom of the NFL...then again...isn't that where we always have been???

Patrick Eagan and Brom

Please go back and look at the drafts that Denny Green had.

2004 was great. He landed 2 D lineman (dockett and Smith), a great wr in Fitz and , Dansby- A+

2005- he was horrible. . In 2004, he started 3 different QBs (much like last year) and with AAron Rodgers sitting there, he chose Antrel Rolle, who was a bust as a CB- Whiz switched him to safety.. Other than Rolle only Eric Green (cut in 09) and JJ Arington (gone in 09) were on that superbowl team 3 years later.

2006- More bad drafting. He set the franchise backward missing badly with the Leinart pick. Only Duece Lutui became legit starter out of this draft. (Pope started some but was disappointing.

Also, remember, Green is the one who insisted Leonard Davis was a LT and refused to make a move, only to watch him become a allpro guard for Dallas. Do you remember him cutting Pete Kindall just as camp began and had no replacement?

Yes 2004 draft was great. But 2005, had only 2 legit QB prospects on the board. SF takes Alex Smith and Green passes on the other QB Aaron Rodgers.. Then blowing it on Leinart the next year. His moves are partly responsible for the situation we are in.

I wonder if Graves is copying him and thats why we passed on trading up for Tannehill so we could start Kolb? Ahhggg

Patrick Eagan makes some very interesting arguments. If possible, releasing Doucet, Heap, Wells & Ryan Williams is probably a good idea because of their injury history. They appear to be good guys, but the NFL is a business. Whiz should stay on as HC and Dennis Green is repsonsible for bringing in the players that got us to the SB. We definitely need new corners. PP is not the answer although he can fill in at times and right now he's all we have. Making trades at this point probably wouldn't work, but we must figure out how to get who we have producing. These players all made it to the NFL level and therefore should be able to contribute at some point. The present problems were evident even through the 4-0 stretch. I fault coaching in this area. Getting beat on some plays is understood, but on every play points to technique teachings and strategy failures. As defenses work to complicate matters, the OL should have the advantage by knowing the plays called. Rather than preparing for what the opposing team might throw at us, why not impose what we want to do on them? Fitz said it best. The players also have a big part of the responsibilty to execute the plays called from the QB, Line, RB, WR, snapper TE to the equipment personnel. I don't see that everyone is committed. Just watch the film and you'll see the ones I'm talking about. It's that obvious. Find a way to motivate them or replace them with another team member waiting for a chance.

We messed up by not getting anybody. No RB, O-Linemen, or QB. Like I said, we'll win a max of 3 more games and finish with another losing record for the 2nd time in 3 years(8-8 isn't a losing or winning season). Whiz's job is in jeopardy if that happens because that would be 3 years in a row without a playoff berth coming off of a near super bowl win and a playoff win vs. Green Bay and a loss to the saints. I wouldn't be surprised if Whiz is fired and Horton would be the frontrunner for the HC job. I really like Whiz but you can't keep having losing seasons and keep your job with the overall talent we have on our roster. I also blame Graves, Keim, Mike Bidwell, the whole FO for this mess at QB and O-LINE.

People who are complaining about no trades being made clearly don't understand the value of draft picks. Player for player trades rarely happen at the trade deadline. The NFL draft has incredible talent from top to bottom. Starters can be found in the late rounds. It's not like the NBA where the 2nd round is meaningless, or MLB where you may need to wait 6 seasons before your 3rd round pick is ML ready. Every team knows we are desperate for tackles and I guarantee any conversation for McKinnie or any other backup probably started with wanting a 4th round draft pick. Even if we negotiated down to a 5th rounder, I still don't see it being worth it. It's simply supply and demand. We can't mortgage our future to fill holes that might be filled for next season already. Massie has struggled but he is a rookie and has potential. Levi will be back next year and as much as everyone bashed him in the past, everyone wishes he was playing right now. Let's see what Potter can do. Maybe he sucks, but we(the public) won't know until he plays. Maybe he plays lights out and we have a LT and RT going forward. Unfortunately we had injuries at a position where you can't just find a fix in the free agent pool or via trade. Any Olineman who can play is already on a team. And anyone who is already on a team, isn't going to come cheap in a trade. I'm glad we didn't make a move, let's see what we've got in Potter, I mean, it can't get much worse, right?
