Carter starts for injured Campbell, Heap sits

Posted by Darren Urban on November 18, 2012 – 9:30 am

No surprise, but defensive end Calais Campbell won’t play today with his bad calf. David Carter will get the start instead, and he’ll get a big chance to show his advances at the new position. It’ll also be another missed game for tight end Todd Heap, who is still dealing with a knee injury.

The other inactives:

– QB Kevin Kolb (ribs)

– WR LaRon Byrd

– LB Jamaal Westerman (meaning undrafted rookie Zack Nash is the only backup outside linebacker behind Sam Acho and Quentin Groves)

– G Senio Kelemete

– T Pat McQuistan

For the Falcons, wide receiver Julio Jones is playing despite missing all week of practice with an ankle sprain. I can’t imagine he’ll be anything but limited today. Starting linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who also has an ankle sprain, is sitting.

Do not know. Might have happened during bye week practice.

Skelton sucks. You just cant miss a wide open Fitzgerald when your defense gives you the ball 3 times. Skelton needs to go. You just cant play one quater. Skelton is the worst Qb in the NFL right now. Cut him.

Ok the first half is about over, wow, defense fantastic job , offense wtf, you can’t intercept and not at least turn it into a field goal wtf, Hyphen friggn awesome, and holy moly even theoline showed up today, but wait …..Skelton taken out after the first quarter uh oh somebody got sick of something, and yikes Lindley is bad so far we need a damn qb wtf, we have all kinds of weapons and nobody tp throw to them and everyones sick of it , please football gods heal Kevin Kolb or Warner has a freak out mid life crisis moment and comes back, please Bidwells sell a mansion or a vinyard or private jet and get us a qb we have three quarters of a super bowl team and no qb please Darren anyone?

Far from a Skelton apologist, but this QB change reeks of the Dennis Green Josh McCown/ Shaun King swap. (Cards were 4-5 back then also, only to spiral.)
They were winning 13-0 when decision was made. Yes, he overthrew Fitz in the endzone, but benching?

And come on man how did we not pick up on wilson or foles , how come everyone else has better qb play, I feel like Whiz is gonna lose it and just throw Peterson or Feeley or some other dude in at qb just to prove a point that hes had enough, please Kolb tell everyone to go to heck and blow peoples minds and suit up and come out what have you got to lose couple ribs or be immortalized by the red bird nation …………..you decide.

    Darren,
What happened in the final 30 seconds of the 1st half by our defense is totally unacceptable. For the Falcons to kick a field goal to tie the game up proves our defense could give up 50 points if the opponent wants to do it.
What a disappointment the field goal was. I can’t wait until Horton and his “hit or miss” defense is gone from the Cards. Please somebody, take Horton for your HC.
Penning this at halftime. No matter how the game ends, my comments stand.
And for Whiz to bench Skelton when the Cardinals were ahead is a big grandstand play by Whiz-too little, too late. It reminds me of Denny Green replacing Josh McKown with Shaun King after McKown won 4 out of 6 games. . Skelton isn’t the answer but he’s the best at the moment. The end is near for Whiz.

The Lions QB M. Stafford has missed a wide open Calvin Johnson 2 times today but didn’t get yanked out of the game. I want Richard Bartel.

Let me tell you why the Arizona Cardinals lost today. They benched Skelton and put in Ryan Lindley. That was the dumbest decision ever. Just like Lindley, both struggled in the beginning of the game. Why would you bench Skelton when he is clearly the better option???? Lindley can’t throw the ball nor can he throw a deep pass and you are telling me that he is better than Skelton???? Our team could have won if Skelton was in. As we all know, Skelton always struggles in the beginning of the game and he improves later on in the 2nd half. All I can say is “Bye Bye Ken Whisenhunt, you just cost your team a chance for a victory and you just cost our team playoff hopes”

WR’s lost this game…….these guys might want to learn how to help out a young QB by running full speed and catching the ball, would have probably had 3 TDs today if they did their jobs.

  19. By AndyStandsUp on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

So much for the “changes”, looked the same to me.
Other than ill-fared “Max (Ryan) Hall” experiment the only change I saw was the inside handoff to LaRuSh, something that should have been done games ago.

Sorry, Darren, got to side with cardsalltheway on this one.

The only “change” had to be Whiz’s golf swing. There are turning ponts in a season and the Bills game was one and I fear this will be the other.

  20. By dan on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

Not one catch by Housler………what a joke. Offense is disgusting.

So, maybe AZ needs to go back to Heap and take away more salary since his pay cut was in line with him playing half the season, but they can’t even get that from him….

Miller has to go. Once again. Terrible playcalling on 3rd and 4th situations.
6 turnovers and the O simply wasn’t able to do anything with the gifts.
And by the way from now on we need a 6 W straight to have even some hope. Hmmmmm….no chance.
We need a real O coordinator and a real QB.

  24. By lg on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

this was a dum game for the cardinals. howling did dam good the def was dam good but the play calling sucked the QB change sucked benching john when we had a 13 to 3 lead was dum. this should have been a easy win but ken whisenhunt droped the ball on this one and i have never said nothing like that before today.

  25. By "Whiz n Punt-goodbye" on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

Great game by the Defense and Horton. Offensive play calling is so bad that Miller needs to go immediately. Fire Whiz after season and lets go with Horton or he will be gone. Glad to see Lindley in as Skelton is just horrible this year. Shows how bad of a talent evaluator Whiz is by naming him starter. Cut Skelton and get Bartel back as back up and go with Lindley. I don’t think Kolb is coming back this year. Just cut Heap already, I hope he realizes he is done. Has a team ever won with 6 turnovers before.

  26. By Steve on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

Darren: regarding players who are injured, could the Cards just cut Heap and move on or are there implications doing so that would violate the rules? The guy took a shot around the shoulder during the Patriots game that didnt aprear to be serious yet he just cant seem to get over it and play anytime soon. Is there salary cap issues or something? He wont be back next year so why not give a kid on the practice squad a chance to contribute?

  27. By oldie on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

why was he so stupid as to change qb like that when they had them on the ropes

  28. By GW on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

WOW! 6 STRAIGHT GAMES LOSING STREAKS 2 YEARS IN A ROW and whiz not on the hot seat.A game when you get 5 int. and dont allow the td pass and still lose no excuse like i said before the CARDS and THE BROWNS are the jokes of the nfl one of the 2 oldest franchises in the league both teams dominated their games, both had a 13-0 lead and what happen they both find a way to lose again what a joke. How many QB has there been since warner retire now add lindley to the mix (he’s not the answer either) this reflect on the COACH stop giving whiz a pass for 2008.The bidwill family really need to sell this team. I’M DONE.

A friend of mind said the cards should change their names to the ARIZONA CLOWNS. I HAVE NO RESPONSE.

  30. By G. Witt on Nov 18, 2012 | Reply

Well at least Whiz didn’t until the 4th quarter to bring in Lindley. He played better than Skelton. He’ll only get better with more reps with the first team. Our defence was awesome today. I felt bad for Larry today, the drop late in the game. Totally out of character for him.
    I see progress

    Steve –

    RE: Heap injury

I believe he is healthy enough to release right now although I could be wrong. And he was hit in the side of the knee, not the shoulder. As for the cap, this is the last year of his deal so other than his salary being guaranteed the rest of this season, no hit.
