A small point but Mike Matheny was not a TV announcer prior to taking over as manager for the St. Louis Cardinals. Recently he served as a catching instructor in the organization and more recently as special assistant to the Cardinals' GM John Mozeliak. However you are correct that he had no prior managerial experience at any level. While the Cardinals did come within one game of the World Series in his inaugural season he did inherit the defending world champions….There was some notable turnover on the roster and all in all he did a good job IMO…..

Yeah, this is getting old. I have read comments on so many HC scenarios it makes your head spin. I believe with the parity in the NFL these days, I'm not sure the HC makes as much difference. The HC and his staff are another story. At this time time we might as well make Horton HC and Whiz OC, atleast we could use the money Whiz will get anyway to sign available FAs. ( I hope you all know I'm kidding on this Horton and Whiz combo ). The fact is, there are not many consistent Franchises who are successful year in and year out. IT BEGINS WITH THE OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT. Seriously, I haven't been impressed by any possible HCs available, this year anyway! We probably should have waited one more year for a HC change. If Horton is our new HC, so be it, still don't think he's ready.

Hire Horton, why? Horton isn't going anyplace! Bidwill should take all the time he needs to get this right. Lets face it all the top head coaches are gone. Cardinals can take their time and have their pick of the left overs. Horton has been doing great with the defense, why not keep him there? We need a HC with proven offensive experience and that's NOT Horton.

I think Horton is the best guy right now...But here's an idea...

How about Kurt Warner...?

I was thinking about the Baseball Cardinals in St Louis...Last year they hired a no experience guy in Mike Matheny..He was a tv Baseball commentator...The Cards fell one game short of the Series...

So why not a new guy that knows the organization...?

I'm up in the air with respect to Bevell. Elsewhere, I've heard equal input - good reviews and negative reviews - from involved fans; including Seahawks fans. Just don't know that much about him. The Bevell resume' which has been posted here and there looks promising, though.

I wished MBidwill would've put more effort into interviewing known, successful available Head Coaches ( that is, successful at least one time in their Head Coaching life re: Playoff / Superbowl experience ), But as regards those who remain uncommitted and who have already been interviewed, I still hold to Jay Gruden as the best and most appealing prospect thus far, now that Bidwill/Keim - after the Andy Reid Due Diligence process went nowhere - have turned their attention to current Offensive Coordinators*.

Newly added to the list is Arians, who, at least, has Acting Head Coach on his resume' ... we'll see how the newest additions fare.

* - Note : THaley was a HC; but now an OC. Gruden was an Arena Football HC; but now an NFL OC.

johnnybluenose,

your keeping track. Thanks. Yup, down to three, (with Saban a fourth)

Alphabetical by first name because I believe they'd all do a fantastic job.

Bryan Kelly
Ray Horton
Urban Meyer
Nick Saban

(I know, I know Saban's not last alphabetically, but he's still with Alabama. No decent Vounteer fan would put him above 4th. By the same standard, if Meyer was still with Florida he'd be tied at fourth, even if there were only three on the list. What can I say, in college ball all teams Florida and Alabama are the Cowboys and Steelers. But if they leave I'll be thrilled to have them on board.)

I'm not an Eagles fan, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Chip Kelly as an NFL HC. Philly's playoff bound for sure.

Philly hired Kelly so now there are only two openings left. Could we be holding out to make sure we are the last team to name a HC so the man has less time to choose a staff and even less time to scout all the college all-star games and be less prepared for the draft? What the hell, why not? We are talking about one of the worst teams in professional sports here. Why change the image now?
