Dockett and his memorable mask

Posted by Darren Urban on June 12, 2013 – 4:51 pm

Darnell Dockett wasn’t surprised someone asked him about his new facemask — it was all over the internet Wednesday morning after he unveiled it at Fan Fest — but he feigned annoyance just the same.

“Everybody asks about the facemask,” Dockett said loudly. “Stein,” he said, using the nickname of nearby assistant equipment manager Steve Christensen, “what do we tell them about the facemask? We came in here and it was just sitting in the locker. Stein put it on.”

Dockett shook his head. “That ain’t even the one,” he said. “This is the practice one. The game one, aww (expletive.)”

Then Dockett played it straight. He said a company is trying to get him to endorse their product. Dockett got the chance to develop something he wanted. “It’s something to play with,” he said. “We’re getting the designs right, the weight down on it, all of that.

“It’s kind of like a custom car.”

Dockett isn’t sure if he’ll change for sure. But he said he likes this look and emphasized vision is not a problem. “I can see through it,” Dockett said. “I mean, I ain’t got that much to see. I’m not a running back or receiver. I just have to see straight ahead.”

Darnell should call that mask “the bulldozer”, as he crunches through poor O-linemen to get to the QB …

I enjoy Darnell when he’s at his flamboyant best – talks himself into a corner and then has to come through. The biggest non-event this summer is the decision not to recruit and sign Sedric Ellis which tells me Padric Scott, Ricky Lumpkin and in another way, Ron Talley are doing a good job.

I don’t care what facemask he’s wearing, I care what productin he gets. Enough for 13 to 16 regular season wins should be enough to satisfy.

(Honestly though, it seems more suited for a SyFy channel original movie than on the football field.)

It would be hard for an opponent to facemask such a facemask. Perhaps this will be a good product to eliminate facemask penalties to WR’s, RB,s and anyone carrying the ball.

Still, a little too SyFy; then again with my Cardinals, I do imagine greater.

If Darnell Dockett had lived during the Roman Empire, he would have been the baddest gladiator in the whole damn Colosseum. He thinks and looks just like a modern-day gladiator!

The front Four and Center should All have that hardware on.
It would be intimidating to have the D-line look like that and back it up!
No TD’s just Field Goals, If That!

    GO CARDS!!!

He’ll never see a fumbled football laying on the ground in front of him. Idiot. How stupid are his coaches? No wonder the Cards are perennial losers.
