    Hi Darren,

Nice photos and a nice gig to have!

Is the official photographer of most NFL teams an independent photographer who is contracted by the team to cover the team at certain points of the season, or is s/he a full-time staff member of the team with a salary and benefits? I’m guessing the former as that’s one less benefit and retirement package to pay out, and the season, from a photographic standpoint is pretty much dormant for approximately four months between the end of the season and the start of OTAs.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if teams are asking a lot more of their writers in terms of photography. The Chicago Sun Times fired their entire photography staff last year and added most of that responsibility off to their staff writers who were then trained in i-Phone photography and video. LOL!

    Thanks!

    Ottis –

    RE: Team photogs

Some have full-time photographers. The Cardinals have an independent one under contract.

As for writers, I take a lot of pictures for the site. The vast majority of the pictures we post from OTAs/training camp are by me (and I am sure you can tell. Once in a while I get one I am proud of).
