Cardinals sign RB Thigpen
Posted by on June 4, 2014 – 12:04 pmThe Cardinals made a minor roster move Wednesday, bringing back undrafted rookie running back Damien Thigpen. Thigpen participated in the team’s rookie minicamp a couple weeks ago as a tryout player. To make room, the Cards cut wide receiver Kevin Smith, himself an undrafted rookie.
Thigpen, 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, played at UCLA, tearing his ACL with three games left in his junior year. The injury kept him out of the first four games of his senior season. He’s fast, running a reported 4.43 40 at UCLA’s pro day, but he only had 18 carries (for 73 yards) in his final year. The Cardinals can use the body with NAU’s Zach Bauman missing some OTA time with an undisclosed injury. The Cardinals have now signed two tryout backs from rookie minicamp, after they brought in Jalen Parmele.

It’s good to see the Mgmt making moves to fill the camp postilions and maybe find a diamond in the UDFA rough.
As perhaps a last comment on this – DWash was not “El Cid” to the team. When he returned to the team last year, we promptly lost the next 2 games. So, though his talent is obvious, he is not the savior of the defense. Could he get us a win in week 17 last year? No man is an island in this game…it takes 11…
Other players made the TEAM” effective. So….not to worry…what the defense may lose, ((and perhaps nothing)) the Offense will compensate…. I am looking forward to all the next men up and the effort they will put forth for their opportunities… G’day…

Seems to be a camp body, but totally agree with you Dr G, keep churning the bottom of the roster, may find the next Otis Anderson!! LOL Kind of showing my age, but if they happen to churn up even a solid everyday contributor then it is well worth it, its like they say with the lottery, you will never win if you dont play! No harm in churning the bottom looking for that diamond!!
I think that Dansby’s loss will hurt us more than Dwash being gone, of course the combination of both gone really hurts, in a bad, bad way!

When Thigpen puts on 20lbs and has that fire, I mean that fire. He’ll be Hall of Fame. We’ll see what money does to people once again.

I couldn’t edit, but when you don’t give it 100% every play of every down, hurt is coming.

Hey Darren,
Any chance for John Skelton to ever be in the NFL again?

RE: Skelton
Who knows? Don’t see why there wouldn’t be a chance.

@ Darren, yes it’s mentioned in your post Bauman has an ‘undisclosed injury’. I was wondering if there was an update.

We East coast Cardinal fanatics would love to maybe see a story on Z. Bauman, dont know much about him, seems his whole life/football career has been within the borders of Arizona. (hint, hint). From what little I have read on Bauman I’m intrigued, and excited to see if he can play his way onto the roster, or sign to the practice squad. Reading up on him I get flashbacks to LSH, can anyone help me out on that, is he alot like Stephens-Howlings or am I way off base? (wouldnt be the first time! 😉 )

Almost forgot…
Thigpen is listed 5-8/180 is that official measurements or media guide estimates??
Because he looks about 5-5/140ish!! (in his case the camera doesnt add weight, thats for dang sure!) Not that it matters for every player…see D. Sproles, but not sure he could stand the pounding of NFL season.

re:bauman not getting active practice time rt.now does’nt bode well for making the team, would rather look to the wr position to see an az.player impressing, for BA to comment on him in at a position of strength says he has been tuirning heads.

Ored,
Not sure if you will see this, i dont normaly go back this far and reply/reread blog, but if you see this….who is the WR from AZ you are refering to in your post above?? Just curious, and like to stay up on players currently on roster. Were you suggesting Bauman converting to WR?? Or someone else altogether? Thanks.
