Dockett carted off with ACL injury

Posted by Darren Urban on August 18, 2014 – 4:16 pm

UPDATE: Dockett tore his ACL and is out for the season. Here is the story.

The first practice of the last week of training camp didn’t go the way the Cardinals would have liked, not when defensive tackle Darnell Dockett went down during the workout and had to be carted off the field with a right knee injury. Dockett was headed to get an MRI on the injury, and it’s safe to say the Cardinals are holding their breath it is not serious. It’s tough to tell right now, although Dockett did look to be in some pain before he left.

“It was a routine play and Darnell was going hard,” defensive tackle Dan Williams said. “I don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s part of football. His foot just got stuck in the ground. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Defensive end Calais Campbell said he didn’t see the play.

“It’s a tough situation to be in,” Campbell said. “He’s a great player, one we count on to be a leader. I’m not sure how serious it is, and hopefully he’ll come back soon but it’s always a scary moment when they bring the cart out.”

The Cardinals’ defensive line has been hammered with injuries. Defensive Bruce Gaston sat out Monday with his knee injury, Williams has missed time because of his knee and nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu remains on the PUP list while he rehabs his ACL injury. Dockett has been remarkably durable, missing only two games out of 160 possible in his 10-year career.

Injuries, though, are part of the game.

“People go down every day almost,” Campbell said. “Sometimes it’s simple and they come right back into practice and sometimes it’s serious. It depends. In football, when people go down, you move the ball up and keep playing football. Since I was 6 years old playing the game, it’s always been when someone goes down, next man up.”

Losing Dock is like having the heart of the defense removed. Whoever steps in has some big shoes to fill. Next man up cardinals, let’s freakin go!

it doesn’t look good; he looks to be in a great deal of pain in the picture. We’ll say a prayer for him, not just because our defense desperately depends on him but for all the service he’s given to the team. He seems so indestructable we sometimes forget it can happen to anybody.Hoping for the best for the big man!

PFT reporting Dockett suffered a torn ACL. Looking forward to an update from BA as to the prognosis as I hate getting this information from outside news sources.

Awesome, just what we needed. I mean, after all its not like the Cards had any injury whatsoever of any significance last year.

This hurts. Time to step up Rucker and show why we signed you.
Guess the Cards will be paying attention to that waiver wire the next couple of weeks.

    Ugh.

Torn ACL….gone for the season. Please tell me today’s date is April 1st, not Aug 18th. This really sucks. At least it happened in pre-season with three weeks to try and get this fixed before the games count. He is going to be missed and not just on the field.

    NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo!!!
First saw a report on ESPN, some source saying “Cardinals fear he tore ACL, MCL.
Of course the source is unnamed!
It was very difficult for me to read both Darren’s, and ESPN’s story, just devistating news, what scares me the most is having to be carted off, DD is one durable Hombre, (only missed 2 games entire career, he had to be hurting if he was carted off…just horrible news, man I hope it isn’t a season ending injury!!

A little of topic (but has to do with injury news)
ESPN reporting Tyrann will come off the PUP list tomorrow! Says he has progressed a lot faster than expected, originally thought he would return after our bye week, now saying tomorrow, doesn’t, say if he will jump right into practice, or play in preseason (I would think they would limit his reps, as well as snaps in the preseason, to a minimum, may not play at all in preseason) Just to be safe, I don’t think I would play him at all in the preseason, but clearly I don’t make those decisions!! LOL!

I am a Steeler fan living in AZ, but I hate to see injuries suffered like Dockett. I wish him the best of luck.

Who else wants to join the ACL club? I’m in it! The Cards rehab unit will help him get back as best he can to where he was but I think that’s about it for D. Dockett. A great and reliable career though, he can rest on his laurels.

    Darren,
Can the Cards be like the 49ers and waive Dockett like the 49ers did their RB Hunter when he tore his ACL recently?

    RE: Waiving

They waived-injured Hunter, which was so they could open a roster spot. That’s not an issue with the Cards right now. Dockett can’t be waived, as a vet if he were cut he’d be an unrestricted free agent. You can’t cut an injured veteran (or you have to give him an injury settlement.) They won’t cut him. He’ll be placed on IR and rehab, like Mathieu and Cooper last year.

please come back DD Take a paycut and retire a cardinal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
