Dwyer moved to reserve list, re-sign Parmele

Posted by Darren Urban on September 18, 2014 – 11:36 am

The Cardinals have moved running back Jonathan Dwyer, arrested Wednesday in a domestic violence case, to the reserve/non-football illness list, and brought back running back Jalen Parmele to the active roster to get the team back to four backs going into the San Francisco game. The reserve list Dwyer is on means the Cardinals have the option not to pay him but the Cardinals will still do so.

In addition, the Cardinals have cut running back Chris Rainey from the practice squad and signed former Colts running back Kerwynn Williams to fill that spot.

Parmele (pictured below) looked OK in the preseason and received praise from coach Bruce Arians, and he is a bigger back that plays in the mold of Dwyer. What will be interesting now is whether Stepfan Taylor can take up Dwyer’s role on the field or if the Cards decide to try and use Parmele in some short-yardage situations.

Darren, I am guessing with all the changes at the running back position, the fact they didn’t even offer the practice squad to Zach Bauman, says they were not that impressed? Does the fact he had no experience on special teams factor in?

    RE: Bauman

Clearly they decided to go in a different direction. I couldn’t say exactly why.

You learn a lot of things on the way to 500…

    Just cut this chump.

So most likely he’s going to be released right? Disappointing will this take a Cap room hit Darren? If so….

    RE: Dwyer cap

The cap hit would be minimal.

Headbutting the mother of your child without a helmet? And then threaten her that you’ll kill yourself in front of her and thy child? I’ve heard of a known practice in a particular Asian country(I wouldn’t doubt others and even in the U.S.) is for the mother to threaten her child that she’ll commit suicide if thy children don’t get an A on a test or qualify for a top university.

That is a classic case of emotional abuse, not to mention the physical/headbutting.

Rainey reportedly had two prior domestic violence arrests as well, back to back days, like the allegations against Dwyer. True or not, as to Dwyer and Rainey, on the smoke and fire metaphor, the Cardinals as an organization moving promptly, decisively. Next man up, eye on the prize… 49ers are desperate. We need to kick some butt, for 4 quarters.

Mgrmnt appears to be doing some fall cleaning…

As for the game on Sunday, I believe our Secondary should have a few chances to some picks against Colin…but first AZ has to get a lead because I’ll bet Darren’s paycheck that SF will start heavy with Gore and the ground game, sprinkle in some Davis on crossing patterns until the defense show they can stop both..

I think it’s time for Stepfan Taylor to step up his game and show us what he’s got. I was really high on him coming out of Stanford and was thrilled that the Cards drafted him, but he’s yet to make his mark. By the end of this year, we should know if he’s a bust or not.

    Darren,
Since fans want more transparency don’t you think the NFL needs to start being more forthcoming?

Yes, not just one of our RB’s was released and/or put on the “reserve/non-football illness list”

…but so was our practice squad RB Chris Rainey. Let’s get to the reason why…(see below)???
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000396738/article/arizona-cardinals-place-jonathan-dwyer-on-nfi-list
“In a related move, Arizona also released running back Chris Rainey from the practice squad. Rainey has a history of domestic violence.”

Why wasn’t Lamicheal James considered? He was cut by our upcoming opponent (9ers) and was a decent back in a crowded backfield. He was Oregons all time leading rusher…oh well

    Darren,

Just curious, but is Anthony Edwards still involved with the Cards in some way?

Not the best cardinal player ever, but back when there was me and 8 other guys at the cards practices in flagstaff years ago, he was always classy.

From my understanding, he went into helping young men and women or something like that.

Can you help me out here?

    REL Edwards

Yes, he still works for the team and is still a player liaison.

Just listened to Arians comments on DV and the Dwyer situation. That’s a man that keeps it real. Love that he is the coach.

Tuneing into ESPN sports is like tuning into TMZ anymore.
It’s terrible the way the media keeps harping on these stories and the way some want to use the whole situation of missmanigment by the NFL to get Goodell fire is Terrible. If the Leagal system dosn’t do anything sever to the few players getting arrested thats where change needs to happen. People that watched the Ray rice Vid should make thier stand not against the NFL, but to the Judical system that didnt punish him at all. How about the stories of community building and good deeds by NFL players be front page.

As a fan I’d love to hear the story line of the Cardinals vs. the 49er in huge week 3 matchup and the Superbowl rematch. These are the stories that NFL Fans care about. Taking away from the games is dishonering the men that put all they have to reach the NFL.

Yeah, it would sure be nice to see Taylor step up and make a contribution. Has pretty much been a disappointment to this point. If he cannot start to make an impression now with Dwyer out of action….then when will he ever?

    JTDG-

You were there, too? I was one of the other 8 guys.

Anthony Edwards was a good WR — as you say, not the best ever — but clutch.

I was watching practice in the Dome that day when he tore up his knee on that sh–y rotten fake grass rug they had in there back in those days. I was really sad for him — thats a messed up way to lose a guy.

Very glad to hear he’s back with us.

OK, getting back to football….let’s keep an eye on the status of Vernon Davis. He murdered the Cardinals last year, his combined numbers for both games were ridiculous. Then again, with how ridiculously bad the Cardinals were against opposing TE’s, it should come as no surprise. HE is the player on that offense I would fear the most if he’s playing at all. Still doesn’t look like we are very good in this area.

There was a point, months ago, where I was saying I don’t want the Cardinals to have need help from other teams ( injuries, etc ). But with all the losses WE have incurred to ALL of the many ways you can lose players these days….I certainly won’t mind seeing the 49ers WITHOUT Vernon Davis on Sunday. THEY are also without so many of THEIR best defensive players, so…playing at home, we better get this one. We let it get away, we will regret it later.

And, now, since I actually tried to just focus on the game for about 10 minutes, let me go back to the home page and see what new disasters have occurred.

I’m only half joking about that.

Vernon Davis is a loudmouth, not to mention self centered, but that said, he is one hell of a good TE! He tore up a lot of defenses over the years, hopefully we have this Guy figured out come Sunday! The Cardinals defense has held up pretty well against Gore if memory serves me. The last 5 games Gore has played in OUR HOUSE the Cardinals defense has held him under 75 yards each game, and he has scored a total of 1 TD, in those games. Hopefully we will continue to have his #, now if we can just figure out Davis’s # I think we go into Denver 3-0!!!

These are two seperate worlds, dont put the two together. Play some ball now, a must win over the Niners!! Im a believer in the “Next Man UP”, it applies with everything greatness is.

Kerwynn Williams was cut by the Chargers most recently, did anyone remember seeing him play in the preseason game against the Chargers?
He ended his college career just short of 7,000 all purpose yards, his career UPC was over 6ypc. He is the WAC’s leader in APY and KYR. (all purpose and kick return yards) not to shabby, but then again, it is the WAC Conference. He also had many academic.honors as well. Love to see a kid who takes his studies seriously, knowing he has something to fall back on if football doesn’t work out for him!

Dwyer isn’t cut which is good because you shouldn’t convict him because of some reports. I don’t really like Stepfan in Dwyer’s role though. I like Stepfan but still…

If Dwyer is found guilty, we’ll cut him. No room for scum like that on our team. Good decision by Arians and the Cards’ leaders. Proud to be a Cardinals fan, but disappointed by Dwyer.

replying on scott h comment.. how can Stepfan be a dissapointment if he dont get to play?? 2 plays for stepfan isnt enough to show anybody what he can do..the running scheme doesn’t fit stepfan’s style..hes a physical back, thats from a physical scheme..if were going to win this division, we are going need to run more against the 49ers and seattle.. if not its going to be a long night..
