No Dockett decision yet UPDATE

Posted by Darren Urban on March 4, 2015 – 4:58 pm

UPDATE: Thursday morning, Dockett signed with the 49ers.

———

It sounded good when it came over Twitter a little after 6 a.m. Arizona time. Adam Schefter reported that Darnell Dockett’s decision on a new team would come at some point today.

It hasn’t happened, at least not yet. #DockettWatch2015 is ongoing. ESPN’s Jim Trotter, who has a good relationship with Dockett, said this afternoon it’s still possible Dockett takes another visit or two. Don’t know if that means the Rams and Seahawks — why wouldn’t he just cover the whole NFC West, right? — or elsewhere. No, I don’t know which way he is leaning, although you’d think if someone had really wowed him with an offer, he’d probably have taken it. It would also seem to me the Cardinals’ offer — reportedly $2.5 million for 2015, plus incentives — would at least be competitive to whatever else he has heard.

Could this stretch into Friday? Saturday? Maybe. You’d think some decision would come down by the start of next week, though, because free agency will start and other players will hit the market. Dockett’s early release leverage will be gone. And usually, teams will start moving on from (most) players if they haven’t gotten an answer. If you need a defensive lineman and are in on Dockett and he hasn’t committed, it’s probably necessary to go to Plan B.

Well, isn’t this just perfect? I could wish DD well as long as he went ANYWHERE except within the NFC West. And who do we have looking to meet with him? EVERY FRIGGIN TEAM IN THE NFC WEST!!!!! I swear, did the 2014 season really end or is it still going on?? Because this is just a continuation of 2014, when EVERYTHING we hoped wouldn’t happen was EVERYTHING that did!

    Un-friggin-believable…..

If all the offers are pretty close, then DD should choose the Cards. If he’s getting bowled over by another team then so be it.
In other words. if DD is playing games with the Cards, then the Cards should withdraw their offer immediately.

I like DD’s out of the box personality. I think he adds flavor to the team and leadership for younger players. So I hope he stays and can play at a high level with less snaps in a rotation.

If the Cardinals can sign a solid vet at Guard, I think my draft board will look like this:

    1. Alvin “Bud” DuPree, DE, Kentucky
    2. Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
    3. David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
    4. B.J. Finney, C, K-State
    5. Antwan Goodley, WR-KR, Baylor
    6. Sean Mannion, QB, Oreg. st
    7. Justin Coleman, CB, Tenn

I love Tre’ Jackson the guard from FSU, but if we address this position in FA, then this is my board.

Its been settled. The San Francisco 49ers are closing in on a deal with Darnell Dockett. At least we won’t have to use $2.5 of our cap space to sign him. Now we can use that money to sign a younger and more faster player.

-Thanks for your many years of service as an Arizona Cardinals. Obviously since you’re joining the enemy, we wish you the worst. But of course, we will miss your presence and leadership in the Cardinals locker room. Would be so strange to see you in a 49ers uniform but it is business. But one thing is for certain, we Cardinals fans are proud to call you a Cardinal and we look forward to see you inducted in the Cardinals Ring of Honor in the near future.Thank you, thank you, thank you. It has been quite a ride.

I respect those players that day they will sign by a certain day and they do. Dockey is waffling. I hope if he comes back it’s not a dime more than 2.5 million..hold strong SK!

    Darren,
Last year Dockett seemed to call out Dansby for chasing the money to Cleveland by saying he wasn’t loyal. If he ends up somewhere else, which one report I just saw said he is “closing in” on a deal with the 49ers, how is that any different than what he called out Dansby for? I think it is actually worse because he is going to an in division rival for probably slightly more money than what the Cards are offering.

Dockett has to be a top priority along with Cro, Dan Williams, etc. P.S. And other teams’ free agents…

I will throw up if I see Dockett in any other NFC west uniform.

    Come back Dockett.

Dockett, Dansby about the $$, don’t blame, but don’t be hypocrite DD. Fare thee well DD, but we’ll be kicking yer ass and that second tier team you signed with.

Looks like Dockett has found a new home with the 9ers and while many will spew ill will, and fail to see this as something he was pushed into, he gave the Cardinals some very good years and like anybody else needed to do what would be best for him. Besides the contract, there are other considerations, among which is the terrible educational system in Arizona that doesn’t look to be getting better anytime soon. Perhaps if the Cardinals want to draw elite players, the organization needs to get behind improving it’s 47th ranked educational system (ahead of only Arkansas, Mississippi, and Lousiana)
Good luck Darnell and thanks for the memories!

Great Guy! Love him as a Cardinal. Time for us to move on and use the cap $$$ for other things. Wish him luck, except for when he plays the Cardinals.

    A sad, sad day…

Wishing you luck Dockett, although not your new team.😛

You’ve given us a lot of great years….sad to see you go.😦

DD to the Niners, that is crazy. I cant believe he didnt want to stay with the Cardinals. Cardinals offered a good deal and if he played lights out im sure another deal would of been done for 2016 that would add up to the niners 2 year offer up front, but i guess its more about money and not loyalty and team, more about get the cash now cuz i probabbly wont make it thru the whole season. Very sad

I think both sides are winners in this situation if AZ resigns T. Kelly and obtains a NT in free agency. Stinson and Rucker did fine replacing him last year.

Cards offer to Docket was more than fare, especially since they did fine last year without him. If J. Smith retires, SF was going to be desperate for DL help considering who is left on their roster. Docket knows he has to make as much as possible in the last one or two years he has left, he gave AZ a chance to match and the Cards correctly did not. Darnell can finish his career with Bolden and V. Davis but will most likely not have Harbaugh success of years past up in the Bay.

Good on Keim for not caving. Look at what we did without him, also imagine what could’be been with him. This was nothing but a grudge move by him. Why else were there no other interest from outside of the division. One thing about this new regime is anyone can be replaced by the Next Man Up.

  20. By clssylssy on Mar 5, 2015 | Reply

Grudge move??? They gave him a MUCH better deal in addition to the fact that the Cards lost their DC and the new defense is looking pretty iffy with all the holes that need too be plugged there alone, not to mention the offensive needs the team has to address. I will be stunned if Cro isn’t the next to jump ship for better parts.
Some Cards fans are being the “whiners” they love to accuse other teams (or their fans) of being instead of showing some class, wishing him well, and focusing on
    this team’.
Perhaps this will serve as a good reality check for Keim that not everyone considers Phoenix “the promised land”.

Good Ridance Dockett…. The Cards were 11-5 without you last year…. The Cards will double team you like everyone else has in the last few years….

Maybe one your friends on the Cards can give you a ticket to watch the Cards playing
in the SB this coming season.

BTW…. the 49er’s are a team in disarray with their coaching issues…..

thanks to DD for the games i enjoyed to watch, and i wish him to stay healthy and have success in SF (except the two games against us:-)).

Thank you DD for your efforts here. No doubt, everyone is anxiously awaiting the schedule release to see when DD is returning to our house. Hopefully he is healthy enough to play. It should prove very, very interesting and our offense will certainly be motivated more than usual to play well when the 9ers visit. I expect our defense to be younger, more athletic and better than last year. DD’s departure is good for us.

DD will get his brain picked. That’s all and DD will not be on the ring of honor.
