Mathieu video shows danger of a hot car

Posted by Darren Urban on July 17, 2015 – 12:20 pm

Tyrann Mathieu loves his dog, King. He isn’t shy about that. So it’s probably not a surprise Mathieu was willing to do a video in conjunction with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) about the dangers of leaving your dog in a hot car. Anyone who has live in Arizona knows how crazy hot their car is in the summer when you first get into it after it has been sitting in the sun. Anybody with half a brain knows that leaving anything live — whether it’s a dog or a child — in that situation is simply stupid, not to mention criminal. Yet it happens, as we all know.

So Mathieu did this awareness video. It’s frightening, really, as go-pros mounted in the car show a increasingly sweaty Mathieu — wearing a t-shirt and jeans — try to keep cool as best he can and clearly not being able to help himself much. He lasts eight minutes before opening the door, wearing a look on his face as if he is about to pass out.

Obviously a dog — or a young child — won’t be able to get out of the car like that. It’s good for the Cardinals their key safety made it out himself.

Speaking of Mathieu and King, they will be part of the video series coming soon called “A Bird’s best friend,” chronicling Cardinals and their dogs.

Tyrann, I applaud you for this great awareness video. I feel like these types of videos should be made more public, as maybe more people would get the message! I personally have witnessed horrific acts of cruelty to animals, things that might go un-reported everyday were it not for folks who care. Thanks for being a great citizen, human being and representative of our great Arizona Cardinals. Can’t wait to see you and the rest of the Red Birds out on the field this year taking it to the competition! GO CARDS!

    Well done young man!

And screw all the idiots who put their dog in the back of pickups in the summer and the idiots who walk their dogs on hot pavement in the middle of the day…think about it!

    Good message!

Anyone willing to help animals and children and give them a HEAR ME! voice, then actually go the extra mile to prove what can happen is a hero. Thank you Tyrann Mathieu for being a man or men and afraid to prove a point.

Tyrann is doing a good thing here. I have always had pets and took detailed care of their food, medical and environs. Tyrann demos somewhat mild conditions here beginning at 90°.

I realize this is probably a national ad, but, it would be ultimately more convincing if he did another ad at 110° which is very realistic in Phoenix in Summer. Instead of 120°, it would get up to 150° or more in a vehicle. A human can have a seizure and die in just a few minutes. Animals do worse. It sickens me when our kids and pets die every year from drownings and baking in vehicles. The penalties should be severe.

Yepper…150°++ is indeed reality…..later Cards Fans

Thanx cards for raising awareness. This is why I love my team so much. Think of babies being stranded while parents are inside stores also. Very sad, think before we act. I love my Arizona Cardinals!!!!!!!!

Good job and kudos to Tyrann Mathieu for this very compelling reminder of how dangerous the heat can be. My AC went out in my car a few weeks ago and I had to drive from Cave Creek to west Phoenix and experienced this first hand, but could at least roll down a window. Am so grateful for these PETA reminders and also for the no nonsense approach by local law enforcement towards individuals neglecting their animals! Looking forward to the next video!

    Hey Darren,
Is there any chance the Cardinals bring back LB Dontay Moch?
