Visit updates Chris Johnson possibility

Posted by Darren Urban on August 14, 2015 – 4:49 pm

The news of the Cardinals and free agent running back Chris Johnson talking came out in the beginning of the week. Now, at the end of the week, comes news that Johnson could still be a Card. Jay Glazer provided the first of multiple reports that Johnson will come to Arizona Sunday — after the Cards’ game against the Chiefs — to take a physical and go through a workout. Both make sense, especially the physical after Johnson was shot in the shoulder in March.

Certainly nothing is set in stone for Johnson to become a Cardinal. But you figure that if the workout and physical go well, there would be a good chance Johnson signs with the Cardinals — because it makes little sense for Johnson to make the trip out to Arizona if the money end of negotations weren’t at least close, and that Johnson believes he could fit. We will see how it plays out.

Johnson had his first sub-1,000-yard season with the Jets last season, his first not playing for the Titans. But he still averaged 4.3 yards a carry. He figures to slide in behind Andre Ellington on the depth chart, especially with rookie David Johnson still sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Keim keeping of cupboards stocked for BA !

People can complain all they want but this is a patented SK one year “prove it” deal. I like it, even if it doesn’t work out!

    Let’s see,
A Veteran proven player, age just turning 30, former Pro-bowler, one year prove it contract, a player with speed, in a position we could use some depth. We are one of top 10 teams in the NFL.
    No Brainer.
As always, excellent job every year GM Steve Keim.

This guy still has the wheels. I really like this if we get him signed. I’ll bet he can still run a 4.50 minimum, but his real strength is his vision and burst into the hole. He still has that extra gear. Hope we can sign him.

If we get Chris, he got a chance to start even over Andre because he’s more talented and more durable and I love Andre!

Hmm. Got to say! At first was kinda like OK no big deal But after thinking about it,
was kinda like hmmm…you have to look1st at our roster at the RB position…we currently have 6 guys that I honestly believe all have great potential! That potential only has 3 guys coming into their 3rd NFLseason! However, isn’t CJ2K a copy of A Ellington? What’s that about? To me our biggest problem
in the BA era has been 3rd & short…(ie. no good powerful RB that could make a defense have to play honest!) Ask Kurt Warner what it meant to have the Edge on
    3rd & 3…
I know many of you… like me would love to see a Steven Jackson type! but he was 32 in July…Pierre Thomas will be 32 in December…
We have never had an OLine to brag about!!! Honestly I personally would almost sacrifice a losing 7-9 season just to hear analysts say watch out for the Cardinals next year because of that offensive line!!! That is my dream!

As a season ticket holder from New Mexico when the Cards first came to town every kickoff I’d put the binocks on Ron Wolfley and I was always rewarded with a head on collision – true Bootytime!

After watching football nonstop since it started on Thursday, I can see that there is going to be a lot of talent that has to be cut getting down to the 53. Why not wait and see what shows up on the waiver wire? Normally, I would love the idea of getting a veteran RB as a pounder to clear the way for the little guys however CJ2K is NOT that guy, but more another knockoff of AE and the fly weights that have become Arians signature. At 29, those are hard years (not arributed to the game); he was shot in the off season and 2009 was a very long time ago. SJ and PT may be turning 32 but they are real pros who have been learned to take care of themselves during the off season. If not going with a proven class act then why not wait to see what becomes available and who might turn into something more than a one trick pony? I was sooooo impressed with the Seahawks talent(especially my guy Tyler Lockett) and their throwaways will be tougher than anything we have now.
Also for those who don’t understand BA not wanting to play Logan Thomas out of the gate, but to have him just shadow Palmer last year…Brock Osweiler is a lesson in the benefits of having patience with the process (not sure that Thomas is Osweiler but BA must have thought so)!

I was hoping the Cards would land Knowshawn Moreno. Tough kid, with skill.

David Johnson’s injury appears worse than reported.

It appears Chris Johnson’s contract is more like a try-out.

Bringing some experience and leadership into the RB room is a good move. Ellington and C. Johnson can split reps having similar running styles. We can’t wait for D. Johnson to get on the field. This takes the pressure off the kid to have to rush his rehab and learning curve. The Cards will closely be watching the ILB group to make sure there is enough depth based on Weathespoon’s situation.

I love SK’s logic…… his one year prove it deals are great espesially when they are low risk high reward like johnson and gresham! can’t wait for Az vs Kc missed football

Chris Johnson is the lowest contract we can get. For the guy saying he wants Knoshawn Moreno, that’s a lot to ask giving that he wants over 3 M. Johnson knows he’s not a Millionaire anymore so it makes sense. Plus, he has great speed, probably a 4.3(?) and he has great burst through the holes which is perfect for 3rd and short because of the momentum going forward. It’s a prove it year for Johnson, but I think he can be a lock for the team given that he averaged 4.3 yards a carry, while the Cardinals average was 3.3 or something like that. Especially since 3rd and short is what hurt us the most last year. Getting Johnson would be like fitting another puzzle piece together. Great pickup if we sign him which I pray we do!

Chis is a good choice for where we are now, but when are we going to look for a kicker??? THAT is an area needing immediate attention!!!!!
