Weatherspoon on inactive list in Detroit

Posted by Darren Urban on October 11, 2015 – 11:35 am

Bruce Arians said Friday with everyone healthy on the roster going into the game against the Lions, he would have some difficult decisions to make with his seven inactives. That came now, with linebacker Sean Weatherspoon — who had been penciled in as a defensive starter in the offseason but who had fallen behind Kevin Minter and Deone Bucannon on the depth chart — declared inactive. It’s not a total surprise. Last week., Weatherspoon was active against the Rams but did not play a snap with Minter and Bucannon doing the defensive work. With Andre Ellington coming back to play today, the Cards went from three active running backs to four active running backs, and had to find someone else to sit.

Not everyone is quite healthy, it seems. Wide receiver J.J. Nelson (shoulder) remains inactive.

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR J.J. Nelson

— LB Shaq Riddick

— LB Sean Weatherspoon

— G Ted Larsen

— T D.J. Humphries

— NT Xavier Williams

The Lions, already having ruled out DT Haloti Ngata, RB Joique Bell and TE Eric Ebron, also will be without starting guard Larry Warford today.

A little bit of everything in this game, and still 1st half.

Wow, what a 1st half so far! 2 sacs on Palmer, 4 turnovers on Detroit so far.

PP’s face mask negates Ruckers’ sack for a Lions’ 1st down, Then Megatron gets 50 yds on an off sides call. Lions then score 1st.

Palmer drives for a TD….CJ is a serious spark after DJ returns for 30 yds and Fells gets the TD over the top. Then Rucker makes a nice tackle on CoryR after he gets an INT..! Hilarious..! DJ up the middle for the TD.

Then PP gets called for holding to negate another sack by Bethel on Stafford.

Just saw JBrown for 50 yds from a deep hole…then CJ again for a bunch down to the 2. Then DJ in for 2nd TD…99 yds on this series…stadium is silent…21-7. Wow… PP needs to pay attention…he is still having cover/penalty issues…

Rashad just got an errant INT…gotta score on this one…yep Jbrown.!! Then a celebration penalty..total bs. Very entertaining game.

The CARDS look good though Stafford has his moments….later Cards Fans…

Unfortunately, BA may not have a difficult decision to make next week. Four and one is a decent start. Keep going.

Boy it sure is good to be a Cardinal Fans under Bruce A, Steve K, and rest of the group.

I hate the inactive list and those Cardinals and Lions had a great chance of getting to play today.

I think we would have won this game anyway but it is nice when you are given one on the road, and lets face it we gave the Rams a win last week.

The more I see our secondary the more I like them. I think they said Detroit set a record with 70 passes today, and we can only get 2 sacks sending our secondary on blitzes. Our secondary looks good even when our front 7 can not get to the QB, but I sure hope we can get after some QBs this year. Was hopeful of Okafor but really did not see him this game, M. Golden flashed on my screen a few times.

Carson Palmer bomb to Smokey Brown 49 yards from our 1 yard line on second and ten was play of the game for me and a great pass as was his pass to Larry in tight coverage down to the two yard line.

I know it did not matter by looking at the final score, but the officiating this year and this game just continues to be bad, and at the time these were big misses. I think you have to give Golden the fumble recovery that they said we were out of bounds, and on Bethel,s sack on third down they call PP for holding. There is no way possible that is holding. Official just made it up. This was not critical but our LT V gets knocked down and rolls over and they call him for tripping. Give me a break!

Nice that they let Fitz get a TD and let Chris Johnson have one more carry to reach 100 yards. Nice to see Ellington come in and bust the long TD run. Would like to see Michael Floyd get more involved in our offense.

Bengals come back from 17 down in the 4th quarter and beat the Seahawks. Now that makes for the perfect Sunday as we have our 2 game lead back.

    Go Cards beat Pittsburgh

Sorry I also wanted to mention the celebration penalty on Brown after the TD. Are you kidding me that was nothing absolutely nothing! Let the games be decided by the players on the field and not with flags.

Cards62… what a terrific performance… but on the celebration penalty for JBrown, I think the refs just did not like the delay when JBrown ask his team mate to help with the dance.. no big deal. Cantanzaro can handle it… I am stokin’ t’night… love the stress free, never a doubt games.

    Darren-

Any word on how Barkley is showing at QB3. My understanding was he was a low risk signing/trade to take a look-see at, but if he stays with the team beyond week 6 there is a cost to pay in picks and/or money. Do you have any info on the organization’s perception of him now that we’re drawing close to decision time?

What a relief to get a win on the road going into Pittsburg, even if it was against a battered and fatigued team who were playing on a short week. The officiating continues to be horrendous and the commentators even stated that the challenge was too close to call, and therefore, after last week, “they were erring on the side of caution”…what a bunch of BS! When do they ever do that for the Cards? The “celebration” call is a BS call under any circumstances, although the rule states there can be no “choreographed” dance…what morons if they think that was anything more than young men excited over an accomplishment! I believe we got called twice for “celebrating” when, in fact, being proud of an accomplishment is a healthy and normal reaction. This is a rule that needs to go!
Despite the score and winning the turnover battle, we came out slow, picked it up in the 2nd, and after we got a comfortable lead let up, allowing the Lions to score in the 4th quarter. If this had been the Steelers, they would have buried us, so we are going to need to hit our grove early to set the pace and then never let up. Our secondary is a joy to watch and I hope Keim is working on a way to keep these guys together as some will be coming up on the end of their contract. Got to keep this team together as they are just beginning to “get it”!

    Cards62 —

I don’t know what you saw on that fumble recovery but it was pretty clear to me we had a guy touching the ball who was out of bounds. And I watch all games with the mindset that the Cardinals are going to get screwed (like happened vs. the Rams on the “his forward progress was stopped” fumble)… but I think that call vs. Detroit was a good call.

The PP holding penalty when Bethel had the sack, I agree was pretty ticky-tack.
