Mathieu, Palmer lead way for Pro Bowl votes

Posted by Darren Urban on December 9, 2015 – 11:20 am

With the Pro Bowl fan voting winding down (it ends Dec. 15, and you can vote by going to azcardinals.com/probowl), seven Cardinals are in the top five in their position, led still by free safety Tyrann Mathieu, who is second only to Carolina’s Kurt Coleman (although Coleman has him by 50,000 votes right now.)

Quarterback Carson Palmer remains among the top 10 in overall vote getters at seventh overall (although he’s behind Atlanta running back Devonta Freeman?) The MVP candidate is fifth among quarterbacks. Here’s the full list of the 11 Cardinals who are in the top 10 for Pro Bowl voting at their positions.

— QB Carson Palmer fifth

— RB Chris Johnson seventh

— WR Larry Fitzgerald fourth

— G Mike Iupati fifth

— DT Calais Campbell fifth

— CB Patrick Peterson fourth

— SS Rashad Johnson seventh and Deone Bucannon ninth

— FS Tyrann Mathieu second

— Kick returner David Johnson 10th

— Special teamer Justin Bethel fourth

Palmer is an MVP candidate (or at least seriously in the discussion) and 5th in fan Pro-Bowl voting for QBs.

Now how would that be if he gets league MVP and is Not in the Pro-Bowl?

(Although, I’m hoping/expecting none of our guys will be playing in the Pro-Bowl this season.)

    D’Urb: re Coaching
    – seems like running game changed blocking schemes last week,

    – also seemed like a change in Defensive scheme or personnel in some situations involving Minter, Buc and Spoon?

Both with good results, not sure if or what they did differently.

    Any intel?

PS: Ron Jaws is a huge CP fan. Me too.

    RE: Blocking

There were halftime adjustments, yes, for blocking. I think the other defensive decisions were part of the gameplan going in.

PS: Kyle has an excellent “textbook blocking” post, guess what scheme they use is the secret sauce against any given defensive situation? Still seems like more blockers at 2nd level, fewer double teams?

Carson – Pro bowl – No brainer.

Tyrann? More and more media seem surprised and are now marvelling at his guts, guile and bold tackling. He should be the poster boy for league Safety of the year. Pro bowl is just not enough for the fortitude he brings. What a nose for the ball.! He should teach the tackling clinic as well. I will don #32 soon. What a good young man; and he shows gratitude; not so common these days… Go Cards…!
