Wilson named to Arizona Sports Hall of Fame

Posted by Darren Urban on August 5, 2016 – 9:11 am

The 2016 class of the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame — which has been around since 1957 — has been announced, and former Cardinals Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson was among the inductees.

Wilson is in a class with former Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson, former Suns coach John MacLeod, high school basketball coaching legend Royce Youree, race car driver Bob Bondurant and former Grand Canyon State Games director Erik Widmark (himself a one-time Cardinals employee).

“Just looking at the last few classes, Charles Barkley last year, Randy Johnson this year, those guys mean a lot to the Valley, and it’s just a culmination of everything I’ve done here as a Cardinal,” Wilson said. “I feel I’ve done everything right in the community as well.”

Wilson remains in the community, now that he is a scout for the Cardinals. Along with every other member of the personnel department, he’s out at training camp practices on a daily basis. The High Point, North Carolina, native said he feels just at home in Arizona.

“Everyone has taken me in. Nobody has told me to go back to North Carolina,” Wilson said with a chuckle. “I feel good as far as where I am at, being here in Arizona and what I have done.”

The induction ceremony will be held Oct. 27.

Very deserving…Adub has always been a fan favorite. David Johnson looks a lot like Adub…a good role model for him…big brother as a staff member.

Another perfect role mode is PPXXI – PP on how NOT to demonstrate a bit of success. Rather the opposite could be true…PP should look to DJohnson as his new role model, came into the league with a degree of humility, got married, got a house and a dog. PERFECT..! If he brags about a fancy car, arrives in a chopper or boasts about being the best RB in the league, I will eat my new Cardinals Hat.

Again…looking forward to the pre-season to see some of the guys who may be in the hunt to make the team. Go Cardinals!!! Thanks again Darren for your efforts…

Glad to see good guys get the recognition they deserve & hope the guys entering the league will take a page from their career playbook.
Probably yhe most impressive thing TM said in his interview after receiving his big payday was that he still wanted that gold jacket! When guys like Adrian &Larry put their game, character & larger goals ahead of immediate gratification, everybody wins and the rest follows.
Thanks Adub for being such a great Cardinal and even better man!
