Still no Grice as inactives named

Posted by Darren Urban on October 19, 2014 – 12:02 pm

The inactive list is out for today’s game against the Raiders. Running back Marion Grice is inactive again, which sounded about what the case would be when Bruce Arians was talking about him Friday. The full inactive list:

– RB Marion Grice

– DE Calais Campbell (knee)

– TE Troy Niklas (ankle)

– DT Bruce Gaston

– LB Desmond Bishop

– LB Thomas Keiser

– LB Glenn Carson

The Raiders have some key players inactive today: OL Khalif Barnes, DT Justin Tuck and FB Marcel Reece.

Posted by Darren Urban on October 12, 2014 – 11:55 am

It’s about 90 minutes before kickoff. The Cardinals, as expected, will have all three of their quarterbacks active for today’s game. And as of right now, we don’t know who is starting. If there is an update to give, I’ll post it here.

In any event, here is the inactive list:

– RB Marion Grice

– LB Desmond Bishop

– LB Thomas Keiser

– LB Glenn Carson (ankle)

– DT Bruce Gaston

– TE Troy Niklas (ankle)

– DE Calais Campbell (knee).

Grice, Keiser among inactives

Posted by Darren Urban on October 5, 2014 – 11:37 am

The newer Cardinals aren’t going to be playing today in an inactive list that doesn’t surprise. Coach Bruce Arians just said Friday running back Marion Grice wasn’t ready to play yet so he is down. So too is outside linebacker Thomas Keiser, who had played every game but now sits because Alex Okafor is finally healthy. Linebacker Desmond Bishop, who just signed, also isn’t playing.

The full inactive list:

– QB Carson Palmer (shoulder, but getting healthier)

– RB Marion Grice

– LB Desmond Bishop

– LB Thomas Keiser

– LB Glenn Carson (ankle)

– DT Bruce Gaston

– TE Darren Fells

Palmer inactive; Rucker to play

Posted by Darren Urban on September 21, 2014 – 11:28 am

Carson Palmer will not be the backup quarterback today. Not surprisingly, he is inactive for a second straight game. Defensive end Frostee Rucker, coming back from a calf injury, is active so that will help on the defensive line. Actually, there are no surprises on the inactive list today really, taking away some of the 90-minute-before-drama that has been there the last first two games. Tight end Rob Housler (hip) will sit today, so Darren Fells gets into his first NFL game. DT Alameda Ta’amu is sitting but since the Cards are trying to hard to generate a pass rush, I’d guess an extra body is favored there over another run stuffer.

The full inactive list:

– Palmer (shoulder)

– P Dave Zastudil (groin)

–LB Victor Butler

– LB Glenn Carson

– LB Alex Okafor (thigh)

– Ta’amu

– Housler (hip)

TE Vernon Davis (ankle) is inactive for the 49ers, as is starting tackle Anthony Davis (hamstring) and No. 2 tight end Vance McDonald (knee). Given the Cards’ issues with tight ends, avoiding both is a big deal.

Palmer will sit vs. Giants; Mathieu, Ellington play

Posted by Darren Urban on September 14, 2014 – 8:13 am

QB Carson Palmer is not playing today because of his sore right shoulder. It’s a difficult blow for the Cardinals, who have an opportunity against a struggling Giants team on the road. Drew Stanton would get the start, which would be his first regular-season appearance since he played six games for Detroit (starting three) back in 2010. Stanton has five career starts. That’s three full seasons of sitting, although Stanton got the vast majority of work in practice this week while Palmer worked with his sore shoulder. He definitely knows the offense given this is his third straight year with coach Bruce Arians, as a backup in Indianapolis in 2012 and then coming to Arizona last year.

Stanton’s last start was 12/9/10 for the Lions in Tampa Bay. He completed 23 of 37 passes for 252 yards a a touchdown. The Lions won.

Not sure when Palmer got hurt against the Chargers, but he spent a chunk of time with the trainers when the offense wasn’t on the field during the game. Now we see if the Cardinals can overcome his first absence since he arrived.

S Tyrann Mathieu is playing today and get his first game in since tearing his knee up last December. RB Andre Ellington is also playing.

The whole inactive list:

– Palmer

– P Dave Zastudil (groin)

– LB Glenn Carson

– LB Alex Okafor (thigh)

– LB Marcus Benard

– TE Darren Fells

– DE Frostee Rucker (calf)

Ellington active, Mathieu is not

Posted by Darren Urban on September 8, 2014 – 5:52 pm

Running back Andre Ellington is active tonight against the Chargers, which is a big deal for the Cardinals. Andre, as you see in the tweet below, forecasted the good news. We’ll see if he is limited or if he’s able to be a full part of the offense. Also active is punter Dave Zastudil, which means the Cardinals will have two active punters tonight. Zastudil could end up just holding on place kicks.

Of the inactives, one surprise is rookie defensive end Kareem Martin. The arrival of new defensive linemen Tommy Kelly and the waiver pickup of former Charger pass rusher Thomas Keiser, both of whom are playing, has impacted Martin’s situation.

One guy that is not a surprise to be sitting is safety Tyrann Mathieu, whose debut remains up in the air as he comes back from knee surgery. Aside from Martin and Mathieu, the inactive list:

– QB Logan Thomas

– LB Glenn Carson

– LB Alex Okafor (thigh)

– G Earl Watford

– TE Darren Fells

That leaves the Cardinals with three active tight ends too.

As a quick aside, not only is Kurt Warner going into the Ring of Honor at halftime, but the Cardinals have another former player cranking the “Big Red Siren” as kickoff approaches: Adrian Wilson, who was a practice visitor earlier this week.

Floyd, Ginn sit out Texans game

Posted by Darren Urban on August 9, 2014 – 4:22 pm

Earlier in the week, Bruce Arians said he expected all but center Lyle Sendlein (and the PUP guys) to be available tonight against the Texans in the preseason opener. Turns out it wasn’t quite the case. Wide receivers Michael Floyd (groin) and Ted Ginn (knee) ended up scratches for the game for what I can only expect are minor issues. Sendlein’s bad calf will keep him out, and obviously LB John Abraham (still awaiting to have him show at camp) and PUPers Tyrann Mathieu and Alameda Ta’amu are out.

I don’t think Larry Fitzgerald will play a ton either. I do expect to see a lot of John Brown, Jaron Brown, Walt Powell and Brittan Golden.

The Texans did not announce the players they are not expecting to dress tonight.

Abraham active for Niners; Ryan Williams sits

Posted by Darren Urban on December 29, 2013 – 12:56 pm

The final inactive list of the season contains no surprises. Linebacker John Abraham is active despite groin issues, as is safety Rashad Johnson. Running back Ryan Williams completes a season where he was healthy and inactive for every game — the only Card to not dress at least once. What the Cardinals do with Williams this offseason is one of the more intriguing storylines, even if it might not mean a lot the way the team has been built/run.

The Cardinals full inactive list:

– QB Ryan Lindley

– RB Ryan Williams

– LB Dontay Moch

– S Curtis Taylor

– T Nate Potter (G Earl Watford active with Daryn Colledge starting but battling sore back)

– TE Kory Sperry

– DE Ronald Talley

Fitzgerald, Housler active in Seattle

Posted by Darren Urban on December 22, 2013 – 12:32 pm

As expected, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is active today for the Cardinals after suffering a concussion last week in Tennessee. That’s important, as is tight end Rob Housler (groin) as the Cards need all their weapons. Another interesting twist on today’s inactive list: Quarterback Ryan Lindley is active, meaning all three QBs are up. That is a nod to the gimpy left ankle of Carson Palmer, not that he won’t or can’t play, but more that if he is hit the wrong way and sent out, the Cards would want to make sure they still have two healthy quarterbacks once Drew Stanton was put in the game.

Safety Rashad Johnson (ankle) is indeed inactive, meaning rookie Tony Jefferson is starting. With Lindley up, the “new” inactive is offensive lineman Nate Potter.

The full inactive list is:

– S Rashad Johnson (ankle)

– RB Ryan Williams

– G Earl Watford

– DE Ronald Talley

– LB Dontay Moch

– T Nate Potter

– TE Kory Sperry

Housler sits, but Palmer, Floyd playing

Posted by Darren Urban on December 15, 2013 – 1:06 pm

Not surprises with the Cardinals’ inactives list today in Tennessee. Tight end Rob Housler, who didn’t practice all week with a groin injury, is not dressing. Quarterback Carson Palmer (right elbow) is playing, as is wide receiver Michael Floyd (ankle). Tight end Kory Sperry is playing in Housler’s place. Wide receiver Brittan Golden is also active this week while reserve safety Curtis Taylor is inactive.

The other five inactives:

– QB Ryan Lindley

– RB Ryan Williams

– LB Dontay Moch

– G Earl Watford

– DE Ronald Talley

In a big development, the Titans made wide receiver Justin Hunter inactive because he violated team rules. He’s been a good weapon for Tennessee of late and that can only benefit the Cardinals.
