No Cooper again for Panthers game

Posted by Darren Urban on January 3, 2015 – 12:57 pm

There are no surprises on the Cardinals’ inactive list today. Guard Jonathan Cooper (wrist/knee) is going to sit out again, but otherwise, pretty straightforward — especially after coach Bruce Arians told everyone QB Drew Stanton was already going to be out with his bad knee. DT Dan Williams (foot) is playing, and with Alameda Ta’amu inactive, it means the Cardinals have to be comfortable Williams will hold up.

The full list:

— QB Drew Stanton (knee)

— WR Brittan Golden

— S Chris Clemons

— G Jonathan Cooper (wrist/knee)

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— G Anthony Steen

— DE Kareem Martin

Foote sits for Cardinals

Posted by Darren Urban on December 28, 2014 – 12:52 pm

Starting inside linebacker Larry Foote, who had played all but two defensive snaps this season, is going to miss a few more today. Foote is inactive with a knee injury — and probably a need to rest him for the playoffs. The Cardinals also will be without guard Jonathan Cooper, who is dealing with the wrist injury. The full inactive list for the Cardinals:

— QB Drew Stanton (knee)

— WR Brittan Golden

— S Chris Clemons

— LB Larry Foote (knee)

— G Jonathan Cooper (wrist)

— G Anthony Steen

— DE Kareem Martin

It’s unknown if 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will be inactive as rumors swirl about his job status. (I kid. I kid.) But the 49ers will be without cornerbacks Tramaine Brock and Perrish Cox, as well as linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

Stanton inactive against Seahawks

Posted by Darren Urban on December 21, 2014 – 4:59 pm

No, Drew Stanton will not be active tonight. Despite some brief practice time this week, expecting him to be ready with his knee injury was never really that realistic. It’s Ryan Lindley’s shot in the spotlight, and we’ll see how that turns out. Given that Jonathan Cooper was already ruled out for the game, there are no surprises on the Cardinals’ inactive list for the Seahawks game this evening.

— QB Drew Stanton (knee)

— WR Brittan Golden

— S Chris Clemons

— G Jonathan Cooper (wrist)

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— G Anthony Steen

— DE Kareem Martin

For the Seahawks, starters center Max Unger (concussion) and left tackle Russell Okung (chest) are both inactive.

Cromartie, newcomer Clemons active

Posted by Darren Urban on December 11, 2014 – 4:56 pm

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie is active tonight just a few days after he thought he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, so that is a boost to the Cardinals’ secondary. Cromartie looked pretty nimble going through early stretching, running pretty well from what I could tell.

Interestingly, also active is new safety Chris Clemons, who just signed Monday and who really hasn’t even gone through a real practice thanks to the short week. Rookie defensive tackle Ed Stinson also returns tonight, sending Josh Mauro to the inactive list. It also looks like Glenn Carson has surpassed Kenny Demens on the depth chart.

The full inactive list:

— S Tyrann Mathieu (thumb)

— LB Kenny Demens

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— G Anthony Steen

— DE Josh Mauro

— G Paul Fanaika (ankle)

— DE Kareem Martin

Fitzgerald active for Chiefs’ game

Posted by Darren Urban on December 7, 2014 – 12:35 pm

Larry Fitzgerald will play.

That’s the best news out of an ugly injury week as the Cardinals announced their inactives for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. It’s a list that wasn’t that hard to figure, since Bruce Arians announced Friday four of the guys who were already going to be out: Andre Ellington, Paul Fanaika, Ed Stinson and Tyrann Mathieu. But Fitz will play. We’ll see how effective he can be — understand that his knee is not 100 percent, but all along, everyone involved said Fitzgerald wouldn’t play unless he could help.

The full inactive list:

— S Tyrann Mathieu (thumb)

— RB Andre Ellington (hip)

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— G Anthony Steen

— DT Ed Stinson (toe)

— G Paul Fanaika (ankle)

— DE Kareem Martin

It’s been a rough year for Martin as the Cards’ third-round pick. He’s made much less of an impact than the Cardinals were hoping. Running back Kerwynn Williams is one of the active players. So is linebacker Matt Shaughnessy, after Shaughnessy missed eight games.

And as a postscript, the roof will be closed today.

Fitzgerald inactive again for Cards

Posted by Darren Urban on November 30, 2014 – 12:39 pm

It isn’t a big surprise but wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will miss his second straight game with his knee sprain. It’s only the second time Fitz has missed back-to-back games in his career — the first coming in 2006. He wasn’t going to play if he couldn’t do everything, coach Bruce Arians said, and clearly, Fitz can’t do everything yet. New running back Michael Bush, still learning the system, is also inactive.

Today also marks the first NFL game for rookie undrafted linebacker Glenn Carson, who is needed on special teams with Kenny Demens (hamstring) out.

The full inactive list:

— WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee)

— RB Michael Bush

— LB Desmond Bishop

— LB Kenny Demens (hamstring)

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— DT Ed Stinson (toe)

— TE Matthew Mulligan

The Falcons have their own high-end receiver sitting out: Roddy White will be inactive with an ankle injury.

Fitzgerald out, streak ends at 110

Posted by Darren Urban on November 23, 2014 – 12:28 pm

It’s not a surprise since he didn’t practice all week, but wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is inactive today against the Seahawks, snapping his consecutive games played streak at 110. It is the first game Fitzgerald has missed since Dec. 2, 2007. Fitzgerald was still limping late in the week and with the depth the Cardinals have at receiver — and the need for him later in the season to be healthy — helped make the decision, I’d think, but the most important reason is that Fitz just wasn’t going to be able to help much if at all in his current state.

The full inactive list:

— WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee)

— DT Ed Stinson (toe)

— RB Kerwynn Williams

— LB Desmond Bishop

— LB Glenn Carson

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— TE Matthew Mulligan

All three QBs active for Cards

Posted by Darren Urban on November 16, 2014 – 12:54 pm

The first game of the post-Carson Palmer part of the season will feature three active quarterbacks. Drew Stanton starts, with Logan Thomas No. 2 and Ryan Lindley No. 3. It makes a lot of sense. While Thomas will go in if something happens to Stanton, Lindley provides a little bit of a safety net with a player who at least has starting experience.

Alameda Ta’amu is also active, since DT Ed Stinson is sitting with his toe injury.

The full inactive list:

— RB Kerwynn Williams

— LB Desmond Bishop

— LB Glenn Carson

— DT Ed Stinson (toe)

— DE Josh Mauro

— G Earl Watford

— TE Darren Fells

The Lions are without starting running back Reggie Bush and starting tight end Brandon Pettigrew today.

Stinson active for Rams game

Posted by Darren Urban on November 9, 2014 – 12:53 pm

Despite hurting his groin at the tail end of Friday’s practice, rookie defensive lineman Ed Stinson is active today and will remain part of the Cardinals’ defensive line rotation. As a result, the Cardinals’ inactive list became pretty predictable with the way Bruce Arians has culled his recent 46-man game day players of late. The full inactive list:

— QB Logan Thomas

— RB Stepfan Taylor (calf)

— LB Desmond Bishop (hamstring)

— LB Thomas Keiser

— LB Glenn Carson

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— TE Darren Fells

Campbell playing; Grice active for first time

Posted by Darren Urban on October 26, 2014 – 11:26 am

The big if not unexpected news: Defensive end Calais Campbell is active today and will be playing for the Cardinals. That isn’t a shock with the way Campbell was talking Friday.

I know I’ve gotten more questions about a rookie sixth-round pick that was already cut once than I ever expected, but for all those waiting, Marion Grice will be active for the first time today for the Cardinals. That’s the guy the Cards pick to replace their third quarterback active, which Logan Thomas was last week. Grice, given the way the Cards would like to run the ball, could see some action today. Linebacker Desmond Bishop is also active for the first time since being re-signed.

Here’s the full Cardinals’ inactive list:

— QB Logan Thomas

— LB Thomas Keiser

— LB Glenn Carson

— DT Alameda Ta’amu

— DT Bruce Gaston

— G Earl Watford

— TE Troy Niklas (ankle)

For the Eagles, RB Darren Sproles (knee) and C Jason Kelce (hernia) are inactive. Starting LB Mychal Kendricks is active.
