Nkemdiche sitting out the opener

Posted by Darren Urban on September 10, 2017 – 8:29 am

It’s not a surprise at this point, but defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche will not play in the opener today against the Lions because of his calf injury. He and $LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) are the two inactives due to injury. The others are all healthy scratches. Guard Mike Iupati is starting coming off the triceps injury.

Newcomer Scooby Wright will be inactive after being promoted Friday — as has been noted, veteran LB Philip Wheeler was released for Wright but that may have more to do with Wheeler’s veteran status. Any veteran on the Week 1 roster has his salary guaranteed for the season, so this way, the Cards could bring back Wheeler if they want and they would keep flexibility down the road with his spot.

The full inactive list:

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)

— G Will Holden

— T Ulrick John

— LB Scooby Wright

— WR Chad Williams

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— $LB Deone Bucannon (ankle)

No Karlos Dansby against Bears

Posted by Darren Urban on August 19, 2017 – 5:37 pm

It’s not a surprise, given that he didn’t practice this week with a leg injury, but inside linebacker Karlos Dansby won’t play tonight against the Bears. The ILBs as a group are down — we already knew Philip Wheeler (foot) and Josh Bynes (hamstring) wouldn’t go, which is why the team signed Ryan Langford Friday and why he’ll play some snaps even though he hasn’t practiced. (The Cards played D-linemen David Moala and Peli Anau in the Hall of Fame game with no practice as well, thanks to injuries.)

The full not-expected-to-play list of the Cardinals:

— WR Brittan Golden (groin)

— $LB Deone Bucannon (PUP – ankle)

— RB T.J.Logan (wrist)

— S Rudy Ford (hamstring)

— ILB Josh Bynes (hamstring)

— ILB Karlos Dansby (leg)

— ILB Philip Wheeler (foot)

— WR Aaron Dobson (hamsting)

— DT Ed Stinson (hamstring)

— OLB Jarvis Jones (back)

Humphries won’t play against Raiders

Posted by Darren Urban on August 12, 2017 – 5:33 pm

Bruce Arians had called three players questionable to play tonight against the Raiders: Tackle D.J. Humphries (hamstring) and wide receivers John Brown (quad) and Chad Williams (shin splints). Only Humphries is on the “not-expected-to-play” list (there is no true inactive list in the preseason), although we’ll see exactly how many snaps Brown and/or Williams actually gets.

The complete list of players not expected to play:

— T D.J. Humphries (hamstring)

— LB Jarvis Jones (back)

— WR Aaron Dobson (hamstring)

— WR Carlton Agudosi (knee)

— RB T.J. Logan (wrist)

— S Rudy Ford (hamstring)

— LB Philip Wheeler (unknown)

— DT Ed Stinson (hamstring)

— LB Deone Bucannon (PUP/ankle)

Posted by Darren Urban on January 1, 2017 – 12:57 pm

The ankle injury defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche suffered in practice this week will cost the rookie the last game of the year, as he is inactive for the finale against the Rams in Los Angeles. Other than that, a relatively normal inactive list:

— QB Zac Dysert

— WR Marquis Bundy

— CB Brian Dixon

— DT Olsen Pierre

— T D.J. Humphries (concussion)

— DT Robert Nkemdiche (ankle)

— DT Ed Stinson

Seeking secondary against Seahawks

Posted by Darren Urban on December 24, 2016 – 12:59 pm

With Tyrann Mathieu’s late trip to the injured reserve, the Cardinals are going to have two practice squad promotions from this week active against the Seahawks in the secondary today: safety Trevon Hartfield and cornerback Harlan Miller. It’ll be interesting, with cornerback Marcus Cooper (back) out how the Cards handle their defensive backfield. Justin Bethel, who has had his troubles at cornerback, will have to play a role. Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche is active again as well. New wide receiver Jeremy Ross will get his first chance to be active for the Cards as well.

The Cardinals’ full inactive list on this Christmas Eve:

— QB Zac Dysert

— WR Marquis Bundy

— CB Marcus Cooper (back)

— DT Olsen Pierre

— T D.J. Humphries (concussion)

— DT Ed Stinson

— DT Xavier Williams

Nkemdiche active against Saints

Posted by Darren Urban on December 18, 2016 – 12:38 pm

The Cardinals had a lot of roster change this week with injuries and other moves impacting the roster, and that includes the inactive list against the Saints. Coach Bruce Arians praised the practice work of first-round pick Robert Nkemdiche, and now Nkemdiche will be active against New Orleans. I’m sure he’ll have to show some things today and in practice to remain active every week the rest of the way, but it’s a good sign, and Nkemdiche could use some momentum heading into the offseason.

Young wide receiver and local product Marquis Bundy is also active, for the first time. As expected, tight end Jermaine Gresham, safety Tyrann Mathieu and wide receiver John Brown are also playing. The full inactive list:

— QB Zac Dysert

— WR Jeremy Ross

— CB Tharold Simon

— DT Olsen Pierre

— T D.J. Humphries (concussion)

— DT Xavier Williams

— DT Ed Stinson

Mathieu inactive against Washington

Posted by Darren Urban on December 4, 2016 – 12:57 pm

In what is no surprise, safety Tyrann Mathieu is inactive today because of his bad shoulder. Mathieu missed practice on both Thursday and Friday. The Cardinals do have safety Tyvon Branch back from injured reserve to help make up for the absence. The rest of the inactive list is fairly status quo as of late:

The full inactive list:

— WR Marquis Bundy

— S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder)

— LB Sio Moore

— G Cole Toner

— DT Olsen Pierre

— DT Robert Nkemdiche

— DT Ed Stinson

Floyd, Mathieu active and a new O-line

Posted by Darren Urban on November 27, 2016 – 9:34 am

The Cardinals will have both wide receiver Michael Floyd (hamstring) and safety Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) on the field today against the Falcons. The Mathieu news wasn’t unexpected. Floyd worked out for head athletic trainer Tom Reed before the game and looked OK. It makes the inactive list one devoid of big names, unless you want to count first-round draft pick Robert Nkemdiche, who has been there more often than not this season.

One other player active today is guard Earl Watford, among reports there could be changes on the offensive line today. We’ll see of D.J. Humphries gets a chance to play left tackle and/or Ulrick John plays right tackle. If there are changes now, it would seem to be production-based, since everyone is active. UPDATE: And the changes have been implemented, based on pre-game warmup. Humphries is the left tackle, Mike Iupati the left guard, A.Q. Shipley still at center, John Wetzel at right guard and John at right tackle.

The full inactive list:

— WR Marquis Bundy

— S Christian Bryant

— LB Sio Moore

— G Cole Toner

— DT Olsen Pierre

— DT Robert Nkemdiche

— DT Ed Stinson

Mathieu inactive in Minnesota, Bucannon playing

Posted by Darren Urban on November 20, 2016 – 9:30 am

Safety Tyrann Mathieu is inactive against the Vikings today because of his shoulder injury. He was limited all week, and in the end wasn’t quite ready to go. Fellow cornerback Tharold Simon (ankle) also is inactive, so Justin Bethel and/or Brandon Williams will need to play bigger roles this week again. The good news is money linebacker Deone Bucannon (ankle) is healthy and will be playing for the Cardinals.

The full list of Cardinals inactives:

— WR Chris Hubert

— CB Tharold Simon (ankle)

— S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder)

— G Cole Toner

— DT Olsen Pierre

— DT Robert Nkemdiche

— DT Corey Peters (foot)

Nkemdiche returns to inactive status

Posted by Darren Urban on November 13, 2016 – 12:59 pm

The Cardinals aren’t completely healthy, especially in the secondary, which makes some new players in play today — like safety Christian Bryant, recently elevated from the practice squad. But the defensive line is healthy, so there are changes, including a return to the bench for first-round pick Robert Nkemdiche. Also noteworthy is the fact Ed Stinson, who has finally recovered from his toe, is a healthy scratch today with Xavier Williams active. Newcomer Taylor Boggs, a guard who Bruce Arians said earlier in the week would’ve made the roster out of training camp had he not gotten hurt, is active over rookie Cole Toner.

The full inactive list for the Cardinals:

— WR Chris Hubert

— CB Tharold Simon (ankle)

— S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder)

— G Cole Toner

— DT Olsen Pierre

— DT Robert Nkemdiche

— DT Ed Stinson

For the 49ers, they have both RB Carlos Hyde (shoulder) and WR Torrey Smith (back) active today, despite questionable status.
