Foster in, Ellington sits, Stanton backs up

Posted by Darren Urban on November 19, 2017 – 9:30 am

It turns out Drew Stanton is healthy enough to at least back up Blaine Gabbert today, and he will be active for the Cardinals against the Texans. In a surprising move, running back Andre Ellington is a healthy scratch — and former ASU star D.J. Foster will get his first chance to play this season. It’ll be an intriguing third-down possibility with Foster and the mobile Gabbert,

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Chad Williams

— S Harlan Miller

— RB Andre Ellington

— LB Bryson Albright

— C Max Tuerk

— DL Corey Peters (ankle)

Health makes for ordinary Cards inactives

Posted by Darren Urban on November 9, 2017 – 5:00 pm

Bruce Arians said Wednesday everyone on the active roster would be available for tonight’s game against the Seahawks, and because of that, the Cardinals have all their crucial pieces in place. The only questionable player who normally plays was wide receiver Brittan Golden, and he is active for the game.

For the Seahawks, safety Earl Thomas (hamstring), who was listed as doubtful, will not play.

The Cardinals’ full inactive list:

— WR Chad Williams

— RB D.J. Foster

— LB Bryson Albright

— OL Will Holden

— C Max Tuerk

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DL Xavier Williams

The Cardinals will have running back Andre Ellington back in the lineup today after he missed a game with a quad injury, as well as linebacker Karlos Dansby (finger/hamstring) and wide receiver Brittan Golden (groin). The latter helps make sure the receiving corps won’t be thin — and also helps on special teams. The full inactive list:

— WR Chad Williams (back)

— RB D.J. Foster

— LB Scooby Wright

— C Daniel Munyer (toe)

— T Will Holden

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DT Xavier Williams

Nkemdiche still out, but other Cards are playing

Posted by Darren Urban on October 15, 2017 – 11:32 am

In the world of questionable, most Cardinals are playing today, except for defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, who is still not ready with his calf injury after working out pre-game with head athletic trainer Tom Reed. All the other players listed as questionable — tackle Jared Veldheer, defensive lineman Corey Peters, cornerback Patrick Peterson and linebacker Karlos Dansby — are active for the Cardinals against the Buccaneers.

It’s good news to have all those guys available, especially on defense. We’ll see if Bruce Arians also uses some subs on the offensive line for Alex Boone and D.J. Humphries at some point. Both those guys are starting, but Arians did express concern about their game conditioning after all this time out.

The full list of inactives:

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— WR Chad Williams

— RB D.J. Foster

— C Daniel Munyer

— DL Olsen Pierre (ankle)

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)

Watford returns to get start in Philly

Posted by Darren Urban on October 8, 2017 – 8:29 am

With no Alex Boone today (he’s unable to play because of his pectoral injury) the Cardinals will turn to Earl Watford to start at left guard, after Watford made his homecoming this week — both to the Cardinals, after leaving as a free agent, and here to Philadelphia, where he grew up. It’s yet another incarnation of the Cards’ in-flux offensive line, which will feature its third different starting lineup in five games.

The Cardinals will have their other two questionable players active: Wide receivers John Brown and J.J. Nelson. Cornerback Tramon Williams, who was inactive last week, is back to active status with new addition Scooby Wright not dressing.

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— WR Chad Williams

— RB D.J. Foster

— LB Scooby Wright

— T D.J. Humphries (knee)

— G Alex Boone (chest)

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)

Humphries will not play against 49ers

Posted by Darren Urban on October 1, 2017 – 11:31 am

D,J, Humphries is not playing yet, and that will leave the Cardinals with a seriously depleted offensive line this week. With Mike Iupati going on injured reserve and Alex Boone unable to play after hurting his pectoral muscle, the Cards will keep John Wetzel at left tackle and use rookie Will Holden at left guard today against the 49ers. (It’s been a big week for Holden, who proposed to his girlfriend on the field after Monday night’s game.)

As previously noted by coach Bruce Arians, receivers Smokey Brown (quad) is active for the first time since the opener, and J.J. Nelson (hamstring) will also play. How much each is able to play will be something to monitor.

Veteran cornerback Tramon Williams, who has played little the first three games, is also inactive for the first time.

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— RB D.J. Foster

— WR Chad Williams

— CB Tramon Williams

— T D.J. Humphries (knee)

— G Alex Boone (chest)

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)

Bucannon will not play against Cowboys

Posted by Darren Urban on September 25, 2017 – 4:06 pm

The return of Deone Bucannon will have to wait for now. After it looked like he was trending up and on track to at least play a little Monday night against the Cowboys, he will not. He’s officially inactive for the game. His role would have been limited anyway, but this does give a little flexibility. I’ll be curious to see if this is strictly Bucannon not being ready, or in part because of injuries and roster flexibility.

As it is, the Cardinals had to promote tight end Ricky Seals-Jones from the practice squad today (cutting, again, linebacker Philip Wheeler) as a hedge against limited tight end Jermaine Gresham, who is dealing with a ribs issue. Alex Boone is also going to start again, with Mike Iupati (triceps) sitting out another game. WR J.J. Nelson, as expected, is playing with his hamstring issue. We’ll see if he can go full speed.

The full inactive list:

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— WR John Brown (quad)

— LB Deone Bucannon (ankle)

— RB D.J. Foster

— T D.J. Humphries (knee)

— G Mike Iupati (triceps)

— DL Xavier Williams

Nkemdiche sitting out the opener

Posted by Darren Urban on September 10, 2017 – 8:29 am

It’s not a surprise at this point, but defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche will not play in the opener today against the Lions because of his calf injury. He and $LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) are the two inactives due to injury. The others are all healthy scratches. Guard Mike Iupati is starting coming off the triceps injury.

Newcomer Scooby Wright will be inactive after being promoted Friday — as has been noted, veteran LB Philip Wheeler was released for Wright but that may have more to do with Wheeler’s veteran status. Any veteran on the Week 1 roster has his salary guaranteed for the season, so this way, the Cards could bring back Wheeler if they want and they would keep flexibility down the road with his spot.

The full inactive list:

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)

— G Will Holden

— T Ulrick John

— LB Scooby Wright

— WR Chad Williams

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— $LB Deone Bucannon (ankle)

No Karlos Dansby against Bears

Posted by Darren Urban on August 19, 2017 – 5:37 pm

It’s not a surprise, given that he didn’t practice this week with a leg injury, but inside linebacker Karlos Dansby won’t play tonight against the Bears. The ILBs as a group are down — we already knew Philip Wheeler (foot) and Josh Bynes (hamstring) wouldn’t go, which is why the team signed Ryan Langford Friday and why he’ll play some snaps even though he hasn’t practiced. (The Cards played D-linemen David Moala and Peli Anau in the Hall of Fame game with no practice as well, thanks to injuries.)

The full not-expected-to-play list of the Cardinals:

— WR Brittan Golden (groin)

— $LB Deone Bucannon (PUP – ankle)

— RB T.J.Logan (wrist)

— S Rudy Ford (hamstring)

— ILB Josh Bynes (hamstring)

— ILB Karlos Dansby (leg)

— ILB Philip Wheeler (foot)

— WR Aaron Dobson (hamsting)

— DT Ed Stinson (hamstring)

— OLB Jarvis Jones (back)

Humphries won’t play against Raiders

Posted by Darren Urban on August 12, 2017 – 5:33 pm

Bruce Arians had called three players questionable to play tonight against the Raiders: Tackle D.J. Humphries (hamstring) and wide receivers John Brown (quad) and Chad Williams (shin splints). Only Humphries is on the “not-expected-to-play” list (there is no true inactive list in the preseason), although we’ll see exactly how many snaps Brown and/or Williams actually gets.

The complete list of players not expected to play:

— T D.J. Humphries (hamstring)

— LB Jarvis Jones (back)

— WR Aaron Dobson (hamstring)

— WR Carlton Agudosi (knee)

— RB T.J. Logan (wrist)

— S Rudy Ford (hamstring)

— LB Philip Wheeler (unknown)

— DT Ed Stinson (hamstring)

— LB Deone Bucannon (PUP/ankle)
