Watford, Niklas playing; Bynes sits in finale

Posted by Darren Urban on December 31, 2017 – 12:59 pm

The Cardinals will have offensive lineman Earl Watford (ankle) and tight end Troy Niklas (ankle) in today’s season finale in Seattle. With John Brown playing again, Chad Williams will be inactive again one more time — he will be facing a big offseason heading into his second year. Linebacker Josh Bynes (ankle) was listed as questionable, but he was DNP all week so again, not a surprise to see him sit.

The final inactives for the season:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Chad Williams

— LB Edmond Robinson

— LB Josh Bynes (ankle)

— C Max Tuerk

— TE Gabe Holmes

— DL Xavier Williams

John Brown returns, Kerwynn active

Posted by Darren Urban on December 24, 2017 – 1:02 pm

Wide receiver John Brown, who has been dealing with a toe injury that has kept him out four games, will return to the field today against the Giants — which hopefully, combined with Drew Stanton back at quarterback, will aid a passing game and an offense that is trying to get a touchdown for the first time in more than 10 quarters.

Running back Kerwynn Williams and linebacker Karlos Dansby, both of whom were questionable to play, are also both active.

A full list of the Cards’ inactives here on Christmas Eve:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Chad Williams (illness)

— LB Gabe Martin (hamstring)

— LB Josh Bynes (ankle)

— G Earl Watford (ankle)

— TE Troy Niklas (ankle)

— DL Xavier Williams

With Gresham ill, Seals-Jones should play more

Posted by Darren Urban on December 17, 2017 – 9:29 am

The Cardinals’ inactive list isn’t that difficult to figure out, given the number of players listed out by the time we got to Saturday night. The latest man added to that group was tight end Jermaine Gresham, who was downgraded to out Saturday because he is sick. That meant the Cardinals promoted tight end Gabe Holmes from the practice squad — and he is active — but what is likely more important will be increased snaps for rookie tight end Ricky Seals-Jones.

How much more Seals-Jones plays will be something to watch. Holmes is a little bit thicker than Seals-Jones and might serve the Cards a little better as a blocker.

Defensive lineman Corey Peters also returns from his ankle injury today after missing the past four games.

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR John Brown (toe)

— CB C.J. Goodwin

— LB Gabe Martin (hamstring)

— G Earl Watford (ankle)

— TE Jermaine Gresham (illness)

— DL Josh Mauro (ankle)

Still no Peters, as AD down again

Posted by Darren Urban on December 10, 2017 – 12:38 pm

It was already know that Adrian Peterson was going to miss today’s game with a neck injury, but the Cardinals must feel better about Kerwynn Williams and his sore ribs too because a second running back — Bronson Hill — is also inactive today. Corey Peters will miss another game this week because of his bad ankle. Otherwise the inactive list is fairly straight-forward.

The full list of inactives:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR John Brown (toe)

— WR Carlton Agudosi

— RB Adrian Peterson (neck)

— RB Bronson Hill

— C Max Tuerk

— DL Corey Peters (ankle)

Adrian Peterson will not play versus Rams

Posted by Darren Urban on December 3, 2017 – 12:58 pm

I’ve covered the NFL for almost 20 seasons, and I can think of very, very few times when a Cardinal had not practice all week and then was still active on Sunday. Wide receiver Brittan Golden did it earlier this season (much to my surprise.) And Adrian Wilson did it the week of the Bills game in 2008, playing only six snaps but using one of the them to effectively end the Buffalo tenure of Bills quarterback Trent Edwards.

There will be no story like that today. Running back Adrian Peterson, who didn’t practice all week because of a neck issue, will be inactive for the Cardinals and won’t play. Again, not a shock, since he wasn’t out there, although he was officially questionable. It’ll make for an interesting running back rotation, since Kerwynn Williams is expected to start and is playing with bad ribs. How much Williams, how much D.J. Foster, how much Elijhaa Penny will be part of today’s storyline.

The full list of Cardinals’ inactives:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR John Brown (toe)

— $LB Deone Bucannon (ankle)

— RB Adrian Peterson (neck)

— S Rudy Ford (knee)

— C Max Tuerk

— DL Corey Peters (ankle)

Injuries undercut Cardinals’ WR choices

Posted by Darren Urban on November 26, 2017 – 12:56 pm

John Brown (toe) had already been ruled out, and the Cardinals will also be without Brittan Golden (groin) for today’s game against the Jaguars, making the struggling receiving corps that much thinner. Chad Williams not only will get his first significant playing time of the year, he will be needed. Special teams also takes a hit with Golden and safety Rudy Ford out — Ford hurt his knee in practice Thursday.

The Jaguars are going to have cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who hurt his hand in practice this week.

The full Cardinals’ inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Brittan Golden (groin)

— WR John Brown (toe)

— WR Calrton Agudosi

— S Rudy Ford (knee)

— C Max Tuerk

— DL Corey Peters (ankle)

Foster in, Ellington sits, Stanton backs up

Posted by Darren Urban on November 19, 2017 – 9:30 am

It turns out Drew Stanton is healthy enough to at least back up Blaine Gabbert today, and he will be active for the Cardinals against the Texans. In a surprising move, running back Andre Ellington is a healthy scratch — and former ASU star D.J. Foster will get his first chance to play this season. It’ll be an intriguing third-down possibility with Foster and the mobile Gabbert,

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Chad Williams

— S Harlan Miller

— RB Andre Ellington

— LB Bryson Albright

— C Max Tuerk

— DL Corey Peters (ankle)

Health makes for ordinary Cards inactives

Posted by Darren Urban on November 9, 2017 – 5:00 pm

Bruce Arians said Wednesday everyone on the active roster would be available for tonight’s game against the Seahawks, and because of that, the Cardinals have all their crucial pieces in place. The only questionable player who normally plays was wide receiver Brittan Golden, and he is active for the game.

For the Seahawks, safety Earl Thomas (hamstring), who was listed as doubtful, will not play.

The Cardinals’ full inactive list:

— WR Chad Williams

— RB D.J. Foster

— LB Bryson Albright

— OL Will Holden

— C Max Tuerk

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DL Xavier Williams

The Cardinals will have running back Andre Ellington back in the lineup today after he missed a game with a quad injury, as well as linebacker Karlos Dansby (finger/hamstring) and wide receiver Brittan Golden (groin). The latter helps make sure the receiving corps won’t be thin — and also helps on special teams. The full inactive list:

— WR Chad Williams (back)

— RB D.J. Foster

— LB Scooby Wright

— C Daniel Munyer (toe)

— T Will Holden

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DT Xavier Williams

Nkemdiche still out, but other Cards are playing

Posted by Darren Urban on October 15, 2017 – 11:32 am

In the world of questionable, most Cardinals are playing today, except for defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, who is still not ready with his calf injury after working out pre-game with head athletic trainer Tom Reed. All the other players listed as questionable — tackle Jared Veldheer, defensive lineman Corey Peters, cornerback Patrick Peterson and linebacker Karlos Dansby — are active for the Cardinals against the Buccaneers.

It’s good news to have all those guys available, especially on defense. We’ll see if Bruce Arians also uses some subs on the offensive line for Alex Boone and D.J. Humphries at some point. Both those guys are starting, but Arians did express concern about their game conditioning after all this time out.

The full list of inactives:

— QB Blaine Gabbert

— WR Chad Williams

— RB D.J. Foster

— C Daniel Munyer

— DL Olsen Pierre (ankle)

— TE Ricky Seals-Jones

— DL Robert Nkemdiche (calf)
