Bryant active, Babin sits for NFC Championship

Posted by Darren Urban on January 24, 2016 – 3:09 pm

The Cardinals are healthy, and their inactive list for the NFC Championship reflects that. It’s notable that newcomer Jason Babin — who played just one defensive snap last week — will not be active for the game. Defensive tackle Red Bryant, who was inactive last week, is back in the gameplan. The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— CB Corey White

— RB Kerwynn Williams

— LB Shaq Riddick

— LB Jason Babin

— T D.J. Humphries

— DT Xavier Williams

Cards’ inactives include Bryant, K. Williams

Posted by Darren Urban on January 16, 2016 – 4:44 pm

The Cardinals are able to have seven healthy inactive players today for the game against the Packers, which includes a couple of guys who have not been inactive of late: DT Red Bryant and RB Kerwynn Williams. The latter is important because it signals a comfort in the health of Andre Ellington in the backfield (although David Johnson is expected to remain the workhorse.) No Williams means the Cardinals will use someone different on kickoff returns (J.J. Nelson? Brittan Golden? David Johnson again?)

Bryant’s name is somewhat of a surprise with the injury to Cory Redding — especially since Xavier Williams is still inactive. With rookie linebacker Gabe Martin active, maybe the Cards wanted someone to fill in on special teams since Kareem Martin will have to play more defensive snaps (and Jason Babin, who is active, doesn’t do that.)

The full list:

—  QB Matt Barkley

— CB Corey White

— RB Kerwynn Williams

— LB Shaq Riddick

— DT Red Bryant

— T D.J. Humphries

— NT Xavier Williams

Inactives “normal,” so starters ready for Seattle

Posted by Darren Urban on January 3, 2016 – 12:58 pm

The inactive list looks like it has the last few weeks, so it certainly seems like Bruce Arians will follow through with his comment that the Cardinals are playing this straight today. S Rashad Johnson and WR Michael Floyd are indeed active. In fact, every player who was questionable for the Cards Friday is active today.

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— CB Corey White

— LB Markus Golden (knee)

— LB Shaq Riddick

— T D.J. Humphries

— NT Xavier Williams

— DT Josh Mauro (calf)

The Seahawks are without starters T Russell Okung, G J.R. Sweezy, RB Marshawn Lynch, TE Luke Willson and S Kam Chancellor.

The bigger pre-game news was that the Cardinals watched former teammate Ryan Lindley throw a TD for the Colts:

Rashad Johnson sitting out again, Ellington active

Posted by Darren Urban on December 27, 2015 – 12:58 pm

Safety Rashad Johnson (ankle) will be inactive today, meaning the Cardinals’ secondary will be without two key members after Tyrann Mathieu was put on IR last week. The Cards are deep in the secondary, but those are two valuable pieces to be without. Running back Andre Ellington will play today for the first time since the game in San Francisco last month.

The full inactives list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— CB Corey White

— LB Shaq Riddick

— S Rashad Johnson (ankle)

— T D.J. Humphries

— NT Xavier Williams

— DT Josh Mauro (calf)

Rashad Johnson to sit out; Ellington too

Posted by Darren Urban on December 20, 2015 – 4:59 pm

The Cardinals will be without their coach on the field tonight. Safety Rashad Johnson, who didn’t practice all week because of an ankle injury, is inactive for the game against the Eagles. What will be interesting now is how the Cardinals account for that — Tony Jefferson is officially being listed as the starter in Johnson’s place.

Running back Andre Ellington (toe) isn’t going to play either.

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— RB Andre Ellington (toe)

— S Rashad Johnson (ankle)

— LB Shaq Riddick

— T D.J. Humphries

— DT Cory Redding (ankle)

—  NT Xavier Williams

Gresham out, but Jefferson to play vs. Vikings

Posted by Darren Urban on December 10, 2015 – 4:59 pm

The Cardinals will not have tight end Jermaine Gresham tonight because of his knee, but that wasn’t unexpected after he was listed as doubtful. More work for Troy Niklas alongside Darren Fells, and I’d think A.Q. Shipley or Jonathan Cooper could get tight end work in jumbo packages.

Injuries actually made the inactive list for tonight’s game fairly simple. With the short week, those extra couple of days might have helped a couple of guys. Safety Tony Jefferson (hamstring) is active, although the Cards have new safety D.J. Swearinger if needed.

The full list of inactives:

— QB Matt Barkley

— CB Jerraud Powers (calf)

— RB Andre Ellington (toe)

— LB Shaq Riddick

— T D.J. Humphries

— TE Jermaine Gresham (knee)

— DT Frostee Rucker (ankle)

Riddick active for the first time

Posted by Darren Urban on December 6, 2015 – 9:31 am

The inactive list was fairy obvious this week, with the long injury list. Linebacker Shaq Riddick is active for the first time. With Ted Larsen replacing Jonathan Cooper in the starting lineup at right guard, Cooper is now the backup guard — and Earl Watford is now inactive. Bradley Sowell will back up both tackle spots.

Not sure how much Michael Floyd will push his hamstring but he will be active today, as is fellow wide receiver John Brown. That isn’t a surprise. The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— CB Jerraud Powers (calf)

— RB Andre Ellington (toe)

— G Earl Watford

— DT Cory Redding (ankle)

— DT Frostee Rucker (ankle)

— T D.J. Humphries

Bucannon, Floyd to play in SF

Posted by Darren Urban on November 29, 2015 – 12:28 pm

The defensive line is thin today, but the Cardinals will have safety Deone Bucannon (coming off concussion symptoms) active, as well as cornerback Patrick Peterson on defense. On offense, Ted Larsen will stay at right guard with Jonathan Cooper still out, but receiver Michael Floyd (hamstring) is playing as expected.

The defensive line will need newcomer Red Bryant to be a factor and Calais Campbell will probably be leaned on to play more than usual. The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— LB Shaq Riddick

— G Jonathan Cooper (knee)

— T D.J. Humphries

— DT Cory Redding (ankle)

— DT Ed Stinson (groin)

— DT Frostee Rucker (ankle)

Smokey Brown active, Floyd is not

Posted by Darren Urban on November 22, 2015 – 4:59 pm

It turns out that no, wide receiver Michael Floyd (hamstring) cannot play tonight. He is inactive. But yes, John “Smokey” Brown is active with his sore hamstring. So the Cardinals have one of their two gimpy wide receivers. Health plays a big part in this week’s inactives — rookie nose tackle Xavier Williams is playing this week. Right guard Jonathan Cooper (knee), who was doubtful, is not. In Cooper’s place, Ted Larsen will start.

The full inactive list:

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR Michael Floyd (hamstring)

— CB Robert Nelson Jr.

— LB Shaq Riddick

— G Jonathan Cooper (knee)

— T D.J. Humphries

— DT Cory Redding (ankle)

For the Bengals, their best cornerback, Pacman Jones, is inactive with a foot injury.

John Brown, Sendlein both active

Posted by Darren Urban on November 15, 2015 – 4:58 pm

As expected, wide receiver John Brown (hamstring) and center Lyle Sendlein (shoulder) both are active today for the Cardinals. (No, I don’t know how much Brown will play. I do expect him to play after essentially three weeks to get better.)

As a result, the inactive list is seven deep with healthy players — unbelievable in Week 10 of an NFL season.

— QB Matt Barkley

— WR J.J. Nelson (With Patrick Peterson returning punts and Brown healthy, Nelson is unneeded.)

— CB Robert Nelson, Jr.

— LB Shaq Riddick

— G Ted Larsen

— T D.J. Humphries

— NT Xavier Williams

For the Seahawks, running back Marshawn Lynch — who was added to the injury report Friday with an abdominal injury — is active.
