Patrick officially added to roster

Posted by Darren Urban on October 17, 2009 – 11:14 am

The Cardinals officially put tight end Ben Patrick on the active roster this morning, meaning he is eligible to play Sunday (The Cards had already cleared a roster spot on the 53-man list). Coach Ken Whisenhunt already said Patrick would be a game-day decision, but I think Patrick will be used Sunday, especially with Stephen Spach out with an ankle injury. Patrick gives them a receiving threat they don’t already have at the spot.

Hey Darren, any chance we activate Dominique Byrd for this game? It doesn’t seem likely because we have Becht and Patrick, but maybe they would in case Patrick’s conditioning isn’t top notch this week.

Yes, I think there is a chance we see Byrd instead of Patrick this week.

–how is it we have so many tight ends that take up important roster spots, and if you put them all together they don’t make even one decent tight end.i mean if i was a lineman in college or a kicker in college and anything in between my mindset would have to be,hey let’s change the body, learn how to catch a football, and learn to block, that would make me a starter on the az cardinals.i mean this is pitiful.if we had a tight end who can block and catch, how much would that help free up our receivers, and if it didn’t,the tightend would have a 1000 yards receiving.go shopping and let’s get valuable players who could help in certain positions.

We’re undeniably thin at tight end…

I was impressed with Byrd in the pre-season and have been hoping to see him active each game instead of Becht. Obviously there must be something between the two that the coaches see that makes them trust Becht more, but I think that if Byrd gets a chance he will make the most of it during the game.
