Beanie, Warner up for awards
Posted by on November 17, 2009 – 9:03 amRunning back Beanie Wells, after rushing for 85 yards and two touchdowns and adding two catches for 32 yards, is up for the league’s Pepsi Rookie of the Week award, which is voted on by the fans. Beanie will battle Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin (6 catches, 76 yards, TD), Redskins LB Brian Orakpo (6 tackles, 1.5 sacks), Bengals RB Bernard Scott (54 rush/receiving yards and a 96-yard TD kickoff return) and Packers LB Clay Matthews (1 sack, 2 fumble recoveries).
Fans do make a difference, after voting QB Kurt Warner as the FedEx air Player of the Week last week. And hey, look at this: Warner is up for the same award this week, after his 29-of-38 performance for 340 yards and two scores. Fans can again vote for him. Warner is up against Colts QB Peyton Manning (28-of-44, 327, 4 TD, 2 INT) and the Vikings’ Brett Favre (20-of-29, 344, 1 TD).

Hey Darren Do these players actually get an award like a plaque or a trophy for winning these awards? Wondered the same about the League NFC/AFC offensive/defensive player of the week awards as well? Seems like some players wouldnt have enough room for all the awards if they did.

Good question. I will find out. UPDATE: They do get a certificate that I am told probably isn’t going to find its way on to any personal wall of fame. But there is something tangible.

I think the weekly winners are all eligible for the end of the year Air/ground Trophy?

I can make a good case for Beanie and Kurt winning in their respective categories this week. I would vote for Beanie, but I have a feeling Scott might win because it was the bigger game and he had the only TD. Kurt should win the award as well, but he may have a hard time against Peyton because, again, the Colts were playing in the bigger game (even though Peyton threw a few horrible INTs). Kurt has better numbers than Favre and Manning and should win if the fans vote correctly.
