Fitz says he’s fine

Posted by Darren Urban on December 16, 2009 – 2:18 pm

Larry Fitzgerald was limited today with his sore knee and coach Ken Whisenhunt said he will be likely limited again tomorrow as the Cards try to get their Pro Bowl receiver ready to play Sunday. But make no mistake, Fitzgerald said his bone bruise and right knee sprain shouldn’t keep him out in Detroit. He wants to play and doesn’t see why he wouldn’t. The injury is similar to what Steve Breaston suffered in the preseason but not nearly as bad. There isn’t the same amount of swelling, and it looks like Fitz is simply very lucky.

The same can’t be said for safety Matt Ware, of course. He’d be out 4-to-6 weeks with his knee injury, Whisenhunt said, and that was just too long to wait. So Ware went on injured reserve. Rookie Rashad Johnson will plug into Ware’s spot, and maybe veteran Ralph Brown.

Tackle Mike Gandy (pelvis) wasn’t at practice today, getting checked out again by a doctor. That does not bode well for the week. Obviously, Jeremy Bridges would step in for Gandy. UPDATE: Reserve defensive end Kenny Iwebema has already been ruled out for the game with a bad shoulder as well. UPDATE II: The Cards have changed Iwebema’s listing, changing him from “out” to “DNP.”

Darren can you please explain how the playoff picture is going to work with us losing to 49ers twice and say they beat the eagles this week

The Cards’ magic number is two, meaning any combination of Cards’ wins and/or Niner losses that add up to two clinches the division for the Cards. For instance, if the Cards beat the Lions and Rams the next two weeks, they clinch regardless of the 49ers’ results.

I’m glad Fitz is good. Rashad get ready to contribute on d now. Bridges needs to go on and start the rest of the regular season because Gandy is hurt and the pelvis isn’t getting better.

Darren, what is the status of your name sake Jereme. I haven’t seen anything mentioned of him since he was made inactive. With Fitz injured I was wondering about the forgotten man

Jerheme Urban has simply been a healthy scratch the past month. The Cards have decided to go with Doucet, so Urban is the odd man out for now. If Fitz can’t go Urban will be in the lineup, but otherwise, he’ll probably sit.
