Fitz reaches 1,000 yards

Posted by Darren Urban on December 20, 2009 – 12:40 pm

Larry Fitzgerald’s 17-yard reception to gain a first down here early in the first half gives Fitzgerald more than 1,000 yards receiving this season. Fitz as of right this moment has 1,014 yards receiving this season.

In a wicked sort of way, the Lions helped us, This team wins going away then it’s party time. When you keep getting humbled it keeps you in focus, The teams needs to be on the edge all the time to keep it interested in the task. Sometimes it bites you and you blow a game. But bottom line is they won, Coach, let’s cancel the victory Mondays the rest of the way and keep riding these guys into the playoffs.

Darren, this has nothing to do with Fitz, but i have been asking you time and time again please help me….When are you guys in the media gonna stop throwing cream puffs at Whiz and call him bleepin out, he has got to be the worst coach ever when it comes to in game coaching…how many times this year have we had a big lead and he continues to chuck the ball all over the place….first example we are up 17-0 ball at are own 30, and 1 run then 2 straight passes, then punt…..another example DRC picks ball off we lead 17-7 we got ball at their 20 1st play chuck it up, pick 6, Darren i am not saying we are the best running team in NFL but we can smack with anyone in NFL run the ball and bloody there faces, I know we are a passing team but when we are at our best we smack teams right in the face….I wanna talk to Wolfley he will totally agree with me, we can’t be chucking it 40 times a game. we got 2 good backs who are freakin bulls and will knock you on your butt….stop with the layups to Whiz and make him accountable, also how do you have a player get 2 15 yrd penalties in one play and not pull a Mike Singletary on him sit his behind down I don’t care who it is………show some authority and stop trying to be these guys best friends…….see Bill Belickik

as a lifelonf 35 yrs Cards fan I refuse to put up with this coach, don’t tell me he changed the culture here in Az, thats a bunch of crap., this team is stacked with talent it should be a lot better than it is, tell me what he has done besides cottle these players, the only time this team plays with emotion is when they are not suppose to win, and that unacceptable, and I put it on you the media to call Whiz out, I am so sick of hearing ESPN and NFL network say Whiz has changed culture in AZ, it shows me that these guys no nothing about football…..let me ask you another Whiz great decision, how does Matt Leinhart get no reps with starters before Tenn game when Kurt gets knocked out game before, wanna know how Whiz wants to be Kurts buddie not his coach,

    Louis —

I appreciate you being a die-hard fan. But you need to relax. I’m not sure how play calling affected today’s game. I am about to take off and haven’t had a chance to digest much — I’ll will do a recap in my aftermath blog later tonight — but I suggest it may be a good idea to also take time to digest a game before firing off your thoughts. They scored 31 points today and there were many other passes I thought would be completed except for various execution, between pass protection or poor throws or whatever.

    Hey Rusty,
I am not sure when you submitted your entry, but 111 yards rushing by Beamie Wells, I’d have to say is running the dang ball. We looked decent in the first half, absolutely terrible, third quarter, and redeemed ourselves in the fourth. Darren what do you think is going on with our rush defense, two weeks ago we stopped A.P. in his tracks, last week we allow Frank Gore to run for 167 yards, and then this week allowed, last time i checked, at least 150 yds by Maurice Morris, and Calais missed at least three back field tackles. Next week, thier supposed to face the Rams, a game I am sure we will win, but Stephen Jackson is a powerful runner, could end up having a field day. I hate to say this, but if we continue this rush defense, or lack thereof, it is going to be a short playoff run. Your opinion Darren. Congrats Fitz and Beanie. Now it’s time for Anquan to get his 1000 yds.

Hey Aaron lone Eagle 20 carries is not running the ball when you can run at will, specially when you are up 17-0 what game where you watching…..when you are winning 17-0 and your next 3 possessions you run a total of 2 times thats not running the ball.

Darren its not just this game, you would think he learned from the Houston game…………….by the way they only scored 24 not 30 pts….didn’t mean to lambaste you but, Whiz has to improve we have to much talent here and we can beat anybody when this team is focused and disicplined and thats Whiz responsibilty

Is anyone surprised that guy is from boston? 2 consecutive winning seasons (after an 8-8 season in his first year), very close to being 2 consecutive division titles, a super bowl appearance last year and an expectation to win amongst the fan base. But no, no Whiz certainly has done nothing to change the culture of the cardinals. Our penchant for letting teams back in is frustrating, but wow that guy is off base.

I’m happy for Fitz getting the 1000 yards but, this is very sad the way the cards are playing. We have now just cliched the NFC again but, I can’t say it was impressive. We should have won against SF and we struggled against DET. These are not good signs for a team heading into the playoffs. I’m sure I’m not the only one with these thoughts.

    Hey Fitz,
Whether you actually get this or not, I just want to say congratulations on your outstanding accomplishments. I hope you retire a Cardinal, just like I hope Q retires a Cardinal. I personally think you two are the best recieving tandem in the league. Now I can’t wait for q to get his 1000 yds. keep up the great work!

Azcardsfan22, I think many people would consider your posts completly overstated.

Whiz has changed the cultural in this town. People are walking around with pride that they are a Card’s fan. It’s on their chest, car, house, Facebook, etc… it’s amazing!!!

Whiz also saves his game planning (goes vanilla) when he gets a lead and expects his talent to win the game. This is extremly smart, especially as we go into the playoff’s. Do we really want to give the wild card team clues during the Detroit game? I suppose having the guts to stick with the same 5 line men, drafting an “injury prone” RB, and benching Leinhart for Warner means nothing. Not to mention going with Davis and firing Pendergast after the SB.

Btw, all teams have talent–that’s why they are playing in the NFL. It takes great coaching to put together the talent and make it work. If that weren’t true we’d still have Coach Green.

    Hey cardsfan22,

I was watching a game that Beanie Wells went over one hundred yards. I was also watching a game that the Lions defense was adjusting to the run, and the fact that we have one of the best receiving duos if not the best in the league, utilize them instead of three and out. Our running game is getting better, but it’s not there yet, on top of the fact that the offensive line is still too inconsistant. Now if you stop and think about it, we have two running backs, I believe Hightower got a few carries as well. Now if Beanie was our only back, I may have to agree with you, 20 carries would not be enough, but he is not the every down back. I believe next year with a solid year and a solid offseason, as well as eliminate the mental mistakes, this team will be dangerous.

all you guys calling out Darren Urban need to take a chill pill. First off he is the website writer and manager not a play caller or coach. For those of you calling out Whiz let me run these things by you.
1.) 8-8, 9-7, 11-5? These are records of the past two years and what may end up Whizs 3rd year mark. Pretty empressive when you look at the records before him.
    2.) 2008 NFC WEST Champs
    3.) 2008 Playoffs
    4.) 2008 NFC Champs
    5.) 2008 Super Bowl
    6.) 2009 NFC WEST Champs
    7.) 2009 Playoffs
8.) Possible NFC Champs & Super Bowl

Take a step back and look how dumb you all look. Realize the man is human and may make mistakes. None the less he HAS changed the culture, I just gave you 9 points of evidence. I think Whiz should do a few things different like sit Beanie & Tim for yesterdays first half because of fumbling issues. Hmmmm, wait, maybe thats why they didnt run run run. Think about it. You all that are complaining are also obviously not life long fans if you have your panties tied up in a bunch right now. We just went to the SB and are back in the playoffs despite the SB curse. PASS ME THE KOOL-AID DARREN!

    Hey Scott C,
That’s what I’ talkin about! Prior to three years ago, the cardinals were a joke in the league. Even watching the game on T.V. you can tell the culture and attitude has changed. Also the last time i checked, the players are on the field not the coach. I personally think, with the exception of Kurt Warner, Ken Whisenhunt is the best move the Cardinals have made! I also still believe that we are going back to the SHOW!
