Nugent cut, Banks promoted

Posted by Darren Urban on January 2, 2010 – 12:09 pm

Well, Neil Rackers really must be OK, because the Cards cut kicker Mike Nugent today, making way for Rackers to get back on the field Sunday now that he’s recovered from his groin injury. In Nugent’s place, the Cardinals have promoted defensive lineman Jason Banks to the 53-man roster. Coach Ken Whisenhunt had already said Rackers was kicking this weekend, but in all honesty I thought as a precaution they’d keep Nugent around. Then again, that clears the way to inactivate a defensive lineman Sunday, should the Vikings win and make the game against the Packers basically meaningless.

Thanks to Mike Nugent he did a good job in relief. That 48 yarder made a big difference!
Jason Banks is a talented D-Lineman and a tough man – it is good to see us shoring up the middle of the defense when we’re facing this playoff run. What a thrill for Jason to have stayed in shape since camp and make the team on the last weekend of the season – I’m betting we see some passionate play from rambling Grambling State! Banks stopping Grant, what a play…

Thanks to Mike Nugent for filling in for the Cards while Rackers was out. Nugent did a good job. I hope he finds a new home in the NFL.

Why Banks? What is the deal with Highsmith? I guess maybe not, why Banks? But, what is the deal with Highsmith? How come Togafau and Walker are on the roster?

    Hey!

I believe Mike was perfect kicking thanks for a job well done. it might seem a little rude, but that is life in the NFL. Mike knew he was filling in for a pro bowl kicker. no team is going to carry 2 kickers if the star is healthy. Mike got to make some extra cash, and showcase his skills I am sure some teams will look at him for next year. Hopefully the Cards can reward him further with a Super Bowl ring.
