Dockett knows about Rolle. Maybe

Posted by Darren Urban on March 4, 2010 – 9:16 pm

As we head into the the night, here is what Darnell Dockett tweeted about his new free-agent teammate, Antrel Rolle:

I just talked to Antrell Rolle!! And I already know what’s about to happen, mann I’m speechless I’m going to Bed. I’m done with twitter BYE!”

Is Dockett’s speechless because he can’t believe the money Rolle is about to be offered? Because Rolle is going elsewhere? Because Rolle is coming back to the Cards for more money than Dockett is getting? It certainly doesn’t come across like he is ticked Rolle is leaving, and he complained about that via Twitter yesterday.

Maybe Dockett is just yanking everyone’s chain. But if it is true that Dockett already knows what Rolle’s free-agent destination is, it better be Arizona, because otherwise — since the Tweet came right around 9 p.m. Arizona time — there was some serious tampering going on that’s interesting, and anyone — including me — would be an idiot for thinking it’d be tampering because, after he was cut, he was free to talk to whomever.

I’ll say this: The two teams I heard in connection with Rolle (like two or three weeks ago) if he became free were the Giants and Dolphins. We’ll see how that pans out. Rolle already has reportedly gotten an offer from Miami (and the same report talks about the Dolphins chasing Dansby hard).

Since Rolle was released and cleared waivers, I thought he was free to sign with anyone and anytime. How would there be tampering?

    Oops. Good point.

Darren, do you think the Cards would be interested in Antonio Cromartie? He has great speed and is decent to good in coverage.. i think he’s defintiely a upgrade over the year Mcfadden had for us.. if we lose Rolle they would have cap space to trade for him…

Cromartie has already been traded to the Jets tonight.

Is it possible that the Cards go after Dunta R as that would make the loss of Rolle, if he goes, more palatable. My season tickets will seem like a bad investment if Graves and Co. don’t do something to put together a defense, which was already a liability this offseason.

I do not see the Cards chasing Robinson.

I know things are SUPPOSED to be different now,but it sure seems like it’s the same old CHEAP Bidwells!

    Darren –

Assuming Rolle does not come back, what line do you think they will take to replace him? Rashad is obviously not ready to fill that hole. Do you forsee the Cards aiming for someone like Sharper (obv he’s a bit older and probably doesn’t more than a few years give or take in him) or are we looking toward the Draft again?

Clark from Pittsburgh is a possibility. So too is the draft. Matt Ware is also a candidate.

Hey Darren. What do you think of the Cards and Lito Sheppard as a back-up cornerback?

  13. By darrenurban on Mar 4, 2010 | Reply

    KG —

Possible. But would he be OK as a backup?

Going to bed soon. The NFL will have to get along without me for a few hours.

    Richard Harris –

I think you didn’t notice that Rolle was offered 6 million, and he turned it down to pursue the 8 million on the open market. He was already making more than someone entering in as a Safety should have been (because he was originally brought in as a Cornerback).

    @ darren

do you think the cards will make a play earlier than later on d.carr as i’ve read multiple places he would be looked at by several teams? i think the cards need to act faster than usual when it comes to this deal.

    c’mon az – c’mon rolle – get a deal done please!

Not necessarily on Carr. Can’t see him in huge demand. WIth QBs, situation is important too.

Chicago Bears want Rolle, Atlanta wants Dunta, Cromartie traded for a draft pick, Lito Sheppard released, Seattle and Detriot targeting almost every big name player out there, busy day. Anyway, Like i said, if we put Rolle in the open market, most likely we’re not going to get him back but, hopefully we somehow do. And honestly Can Graves release McFadden, and target Bodden or Sheppard or just draft a DB in the 2nd round, and why did we keep Michael Adams he ‘s not good either, i don’t care about the one play he made in Green Bay, he allowed like 4 catches and had 5+ penalties alone in that game and even besides that he didn’t play well in the season when we saw him, ugg. Toler better have a good training camp. In my opinon, on offense i think all we need is an OT, a recieving TE would be nice, Patrick is fine though, on defense we need basically 1 new player for each posistion.

Agree with so many….not losing faith but defense is a shambles and I cannot stand to see the Cards go slow and cheap…we are past that!
Rolled is not worth as much as he wants…6 million was a great deal for him, but someone will pay too much…however, lets spend that money on some impact FAs…not market breakers but not just competition guys. Oh, and Darren. ..Matt Ware to replace Antrel SERIOUSLY talk like that makes us believethe cheap is BACK! HE IS A GOOD BACKUP….THATS IT!

The Cards would never consider Ware as a long-term solution. But if you draft a guy who isn’t quite ready (or if you have someone like that, like Rashad), Ware might tide you over. Just because Rolle might leave doesn’t mean that becomes the Cards’ biggest weakness and they have other spots they need to address.

Let Rolle walk he made a handful of big plays, but how about all the big plays he gave up…are we forgetting this?

I’ve heard rumors that the Cards will make a play for Joey Porter. Do you know anything about that. Isn’t Briggs available too? Those two could shore up the linebackers.

    Brent —

I don’t remember seeing Briggs being available. Porter is possible, but not if he is looking to get rich.

Maybe Dockett is shocked because Rolle revealed that the IRS has issued a warrant for his arrest, and that he (Rolle) won’t be signing with any NFL team anytime soon.

I’m tired of you people who are crying same ol cheap Cardinals. What move have they made that you don’t agree with? Would you pay top dollar for Dansby and Rolle? Neither one is worth it. Give them some time and see what they do this offseason.

  28. By JP on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

I agree with you Scott. Both Dansby and Rolle are just a little above average players trying to get rich. Dansby is as good as he is going to get and Rolle may improve a little, but there are so many areas that need to be addressed on Defense. I just want to see Docket resigned!!!
