Dansby the newest Dolphin

Posted by Darren Urban on March 5, 2010 – 6:15 pm

On the heels of the Anquan Boldin trade comes the news linebacker Karlos Dansby has signed a five-year deal with the Dolphins, one that ESPN is reporting is worth $43 million with $22 million in guarantees. Nothing close to the $30 million in guarantees Dansby was supposedly seeking, but pretty good nonetheless. The Cards are bringing Larry Foote in for a visit next week and I would guess he’d be priority No. 1 to replace Karlos. In the end, I guess the Cards’ final pitches to Karlos fell on deaf ears. No giant surprise the Cards lost ‘Los, but given that it was also on a Q-traded day, a difficult few hours for Cards’ fans.

yea im pretty much sick. I mean i trust whiz and graves to put together a good team, but the faces of the Cardinals that the fans love are just dropping off the roster. I know its a long shot but we need to get Rolle back. I just dont know if I can handle losing another team favorite.

Didn’t we offer him more money?? Weren’t reports around 23-25 million in guarantees?

I am not sure about Dansby’s offer, but he might have just wanted to leave. He is from Alabama, so maybe he wanted to be closer to home.

Avg of $8.5mil a year? I can live with the Cards not paying out that much for a 0 Pro Bowl player. We got a warm spot open for you Larry Foote, come on down to AZ!

    Darren-

    Is Rolle almost gone?

Other than Rolle and Foote, who are they looking at picking up?

    Is Rackers in contract negotiations?

    Sorry for so many questions.

They want Rolle but he’s talking with other teams. Don’t know about Rackers.

Shake it up.. lets hope we pickup some good replacements to fill these holes. I would love to see Sharper or Grant.. hoping Ware comes back. Would love to see Foote or someone in the draft come in and step it up. We have the coaches to make anyone a star.. enjoy the palm trees and the hurricanes Dansby.

as it stands right now the cards have a ton of work to get done in FA and the draft. we need some monsters with the picks afforded to us!

Honestly I dunno what to say… These Contracts are looking like contracts that were easily doable by the FO… I don’t know what the FO is thinking and maybe there are some FA gems out there but I’m tired of seeing these PIT cast offs coming in… Make some move dudes! I don’t care who right now…

i’ve been saying k.morrison for the last week or more and especially after the 3rd rnd. tender. i believe al would be willing to work out some deal as i don’t think we would give k.morrison more than al.

    WOW

Darren a lots going on now, now i think we have to get Antrell back. Especially if seatlle ends up with Brandon Marshall. Our card team is gunna have a handfull with the recievers in thw WEST. I’m excited now though our team has a lot of questions to answer now next year and i think where all gunna man up to. Dont worry Card Fans where gunna just fine. LOL as long as we get Rolle back and draft really good this year.

i’ve never been a big fan of porter or foote but if the staff believes that will suffice i am all for it. we have to pick up a stud ilb in the draft now in my opinion. ken i hope you’re right about rolle.

Well, the Cards certainly have a lot salary space now with Warner, Boldin,Dansby and possibly Rolle gone, Not to mention Okefer and Berry also. But then again we don”t want to “break the bank” do we. We better hope Mark Washington pans out.

Kirk Morrison is needed he’s a great player. faster then foot pick him up they should cut mcfadden save 5 mil dude sucks i rather have toler out there learn on the fly . mc got burned all season long even with safety help add some pass rush cause the secandary is looking pretty bad here soon and a tight end cause lineart going to be checking down all game long no speared offensive with out warrner greg olson bears pick him up also

  26. By Cards Fan in Missouri on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

With Dansby and Q gone, I think they have to do whatever it takes to get Rolle back, and then give Dockett the deal he wants.

With the salary they jettisoned from Warner, Q and Dansby already, the team needs to start paying out that money.

If they don’t, someone needs to be asking some tough questions about where this money is going.

  27. By pondern on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

The Cardinals should have tried to get Troy Smith in the deal with the Ravens.

He was set to be the Ravens starter before the 2008 season when he fell ill and lost 30 pounds before the season. At that point he lost his job. He would be tremendously better than Charlie Batch, Chris Redman, or some other journeyman QB

reading some this is like you didn’t get the little toy you wanted for christmas.get a grip, been a die hard cards fan over 45 years, seen it all,and i’m pretty sure whiz is not going to flush it down the toilet.everyteam is losing good players, that happens, but don’t think whiz doesn’t have a plan.all will be ok.it took mr bidwell a long time to realize the joy of winning,he’s not going to let that slip away, and with michael, whiz and graves,we WILL get players to fill the holes, probably even better players.don’t freak out on day 1,be patient, you will like the final result.

Darren we saved 11,500,000 for warner 9,000,000 for dansby 1,000,000 for berry 5,000,000 for ganby 4,500,000 okefor 2,500,000 for boldin 1,000,000 for pierre 750,000 for urban etc. etc. potentially 40,000,0000 savings in one year. A payout of roughly 10,000,000 for restricted free adgents. Any idea what we do with 30,000,000 + to fill holes on this team? And spending is not capped this year?

I’m not privy to budgets. But it’s been speculated for a while teams are going to be cautious with a possible work stoppage. Sometimes it seems like fans want to ignore that. But it is reality.

That said, the Cardinals had an offer on the table to Dansby worth more than 8 million a year, he decided to turn it down. They have an offer on the table to Rolle worth, I believe, more than 6 million. They wanted Warner to stay, obviously, and were willing to pay him. They can’t make free agents take an offer or Warner stay. There are others who very well could return, St. Pierre, Urban, Rackers, Bryan Robinson, Becht, etc.

I’m starting to see a 7-9 is season going on. We have to play the NFC South so the Saints will prolly crush us, Carolina seems to have our number, the Falcons will be tougher with Matt Ryan healthy, and the Buccaneers can only improve and the AFC West Which Denver started well last year and will be better, San Diego a very good team, and KC and Oakland probably going to be better and our division with all the teams looking to improve this year and SF already having gotten the better of us last year, and our two extra games are the Cowboys and the Vikings compiled with We’re losing alot of Veterans on the D Warner and Q, and any rookies can’t be expected to come in and perform at the level needed to win right away, Nor can the free agents to come in and learn Bill Davis’s defensive scheme in the first year. I have my doubts, but I will keep my hopes up, and go for the ride, I just hope Graves and the Bidwells give us something to get excited about, something to restore hopes that we’re going in the right direction and not falling back into mediocracy.

MAN OH MAN!!! This is tough for every single real cardinal fan even you darren. We trade Anquan to the ravens and we did get good compensation for what he’s worth now, which is shocking that Anquan Boldin is only worth a 3 and a 4 but I digress. Karlos goes to the dolphins for what seems like what the cards were offering or close to it. Antrel, we need you back man, lower that 8M a year tag and come on back, because if we lose you, were in BIG trouble. Finally we got ONE visit coming in in Larry Foote. Larry Foote would be a nice addition because of his experience in the 3-4. He’s a darn good LB and him and Gerald Hayes would be nice in the middle. It is time for us to start free agency, Joey Porter just got cut, Leigh Bodden is a real nice CB, hate to see Dunta in ATL, but wouldn’t be as mad if we can get Bodden. If Antrel leaves(sigh), definitely go after Clark or trade for Rhodes with a mid round pick. Come on Graves and Co., Let’s kick it in gear.

I DONT THINK ANTROLLE IS WORTH WHAT HIS GOING TO GET FROM THAT GIANTS.NOW IM JUST HOPING TO GET ONE MAYBE TWO STARTERS FROM FREE AGENTS AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN HAVE A GOOD DRAFT AND GET TWO MAYBE THREE STARTERS FROM IT.IF NOT 8-8 HERE WE COME AND THAT MIGHT BE GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN THAT NFC WEST

I’m confident in Whiz and Graves but after McFadden’s year I’m a bit wary on who they may bring in. We need a good safety even if Rolle comes back-something is wrong in the secondary….need linebackers and more linebackers too.

I am hurt by all the loses we have gone through in 1 day…seriously we are 1 day into free agency and this off season we have already lost our starting quarterback, #2 wide receiver, 2009 team sack leader Bert Berry, our starting FS is about to sign with another team, and now we just lost Dansby. This is a hard day for me here in Maryland watching my favorite team crumbling. This is just painful.

Good luck in Miami Karlos, I hold no grudges against someone wanting to make more money at their job. I left a company for another one doing the exact same job almost 2 years ago for $2 more an hour….i can only imagine what i would do $22 million guaranteed. But seriously, we will miss you to Karlos i wish you would have reconsidered staying the Defensive Leader of the Desert.

Im just as sad on losing Dansby,Q and possibly Rolle to but you cant blame the players for trying to get the most$$$.They’ll be other players come to AZ and we will pull for those guys and when they make big plays we will love it.Ive been a fan since 1973 and I know what its like to lose but these last few years have been great and with the team and coaches especially with whiz at the helm I dont think we will be as bad as you may think. For Darren Urban, thanks for all the work you do.

Ok good, im definitely interested in hearing who else is scheduled for a visit. Also Kirk Morrison is an excellent player stuck on a bad oakland team(i.e. Nnamdi Asomugha and his LB friend Thomas Howard). They are on oakland’s horrible football team but if they’re on a better team, they’d get alot more recognition.

Go Cards! Let’s make a 3 peat nfc west champs!

  49. By pondern on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

I know Dansby was great up to 2009, but he wasn’t a super stud this season. Q wasn’t really needed with a different offense & Breaston & Doucet.

We need a FS and there aren’t many out there. They offered Rolle 6 yrs 40M w/ 10 guaranteed. That’s 6.6M per year… Shoot Bob Sanders is getting 7.5M… Rosenhaus & Rolle think they’re worth more than they should be.

This is the right way to build a team. Not much in free agency, but mostly in the draft ans signing your key players.

too many bridge jumpers on here

darren thaks for that job u do
if that cardinals cant pay karlos, rolle, boldin who on this roster is getting pay big money beside fitz and wilson.we lost karlos 8m,kurt 12m,rolle about 6m and boldin 2m $$$$$$$cant we get decent free agents with that money

  51. By darrenurban on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

    Ruben —

Again, I know the Cards aren’t paying that money but they were willing to shell out some money to Rolle and Dansby. Those guys said no. Rolle was just made the highest paid safety in NFL history. I don’t agree with that and I can’t blame the Cards for passing.

  52. By Scott J on Mar 5, 2010 | Reply

you guys need to relax. you act like we had the top rated defense last yr. dansby and rolle are replaceable. other than rolle’s exciting returns for tds 2 yrs ago, what did he do? and dansby, i know he had a lot of tackles but how many sacks did he have? Pretty sure I could count them on one hand. liked boldin when he was able to play but it was time for him to move on. let’s see what the cards do to respond.

I think everyone needs to take a step back and relax. When you look at the team as a whole most pieces are in place. I have been a Cards fan for 38 years, and I have more faith with this team and staff then ever before. While all lost will be missed and we should be thankful for their contributions, I truly believe they were prepared for this outcome and have a plan in place. I look forward to all the “experts” picking the Niners or Seahwaks to win the West. And Whiz and Co. to keep moving us forward.

Rolle was overpaid, Dansby was overpaid and Boldin is on the downside, funny thing is I don’t think he’s been the same since the Cardinals/Ravens game where he got tackled out of bounds and injured his hip. I personally think he has a hip problem. Cardinals did the right thing.

  61. By Brent on Mar 7, 2010 | Reply

Ok. I am happy that Rolle left. The guy is a good player but not worth being paid as the best in the league. We do remember that the only reason he is playing safety is because he couldn’t cut it as a corner. Now Dansby, it hurts losing him, but he is replacable. We didn’t exactly light teams up on Defense towards the end of the year. Wis will find someone to replace him. It does hurt to lose Boldin, although I think we’ll be ok with Breston moving into no. 2 and Doucett going to no. 3. Boldin was just a bad ass. I really like the signing of Kerry Rhodes.

  62. By Niner Man on Mar 7, 2010 | Reply

Well, well Warner, Rolle, Dansby, Boldin all gone and so is 2010!
I hope you Cardinals fans enjoyed the ride, but sad to say the playoff excursion is over. Niners will sweep Cards again in 2010 and rightfully reclaim the NFC West title. We will be 6-0 in the division and be 10-6 overalll.
Pretty boy at QB will not make it as the starter for the full season, he will get hurt and go pout on the sideline, i hope you guys sign another QB.

    Sincerely,

I’ll give you the space to talk smack. But you really need to work on the signature. I know what you think of Al Davis, but “five rings and counting” when the last one was more than a decade ago echoes the Raiders’ continual insistence are the “team of the decades” when they haven’t won in forever either.

Karlos got exactly the same amount of guaranteed money that Calvin Pace did in 2008 – $22 million in total guarantees. Does Karlos think he is better than Pace? I’m guessing so since Karlos was seeking $10 million more than Pace in guaranteed money. In the end, Karlos only gets 2/3 of the guaranteed money he sought. Don’t worry Karlos, you were humbled by your true market value, but your still rich.

“Pace reached an agreement with the New York Jets on a six-year, $42 million contract on Monday. The deal, negotiated by agent Pat Dye Jr. and his associates at Atlanta-based ProFiles Sports Management, includes a signing bonus of $20 million and $22 million in total guarantees.”

“Rightfully” reclaim”? What the heck does that mean? Sounds like you were promised some kind of divine intervention in 2008 and 2009 that never materialized.

Division titles are earned by today’s players and coaches — they are not granted by yesterday’s football gods.
