An echo from the past?

You see the facial hair. You see the (potential) scowl. You see the jersey number.
Is Alan Faneca Conrad Dobler 2.0? (Not that Faneca would eye gouge or bite or anything.)

darren,
when is the next mini camp.Had a question too so whats the deal with brian st pierre does he still count for the 80 man roster and are they going to be realeasing him. also how is max hall doing i went to school with dude

St. Pierre is a free agent and will not be re-signed. Hall was fine, but he will have an uphill battle to make the team. There are no more minicamps. The team will have 14 OTAs over the next few weeks ending June 10.

Nah, Faneca looks like a taller Jack Black or a heftier Jake Plummer, except the Snake would grab more than your facemask, hint, hint.
Other than being voluntary, what’s the difference between minicamps and Organized Team Activities? More contact allowed under NFLPA rules?
By darrenurban on May 4, 2010 | Reply

No more contact. Probably less actually. Basically yes, just that they are voluntary.

Camp dates aren’t usually released before mid-June at the earliest.

Darren,
I know that coach whiz makes rookies earn playing time and he doesn’t hand them the starting job. That being said , do you think my man Dan has a chance to start early on in the season?
By darrenurban on May 4, 2010 | Reply
Jon L —
Given how rookies have been used in Whiz’s three seasons, I will be shocked — assuming everyone stays healthy — if he is starting before mid-season.

Faneca looks more intimidating than Dobler haha. Glad they’re both wearing Cardinals jerseys though!!

“Oh, Man, I’d like to tell you about ALL those Sunday afternoons I spent “booing” and “hissing” at the Cardinal’s Conrad Dobler!!! Hands down, THE Dirtiest Football Player I EVER saw!!! He came from a FAR, FAR, FAR different breed then the football player’s of today, THAT’S for SURE!!!” Barry Fleckmann

I hope the best for Dobler and Thankfully the only similarity to Faneca is looks not circumstances.

I like it! Crazy resemblance. Darren, have the training camp dates been set yet? Need to set the dates for vacation in Jul/Aug!

Darren,
Do you think Faneca’s age was a factor in him receiving only a 1-year contract? Or was it more of a financial decision? He seems like a great fit with the Cardinals, so I’m curious as to why he didn’t get a 2 or 3-year contract.
By darrenurban on May 4, 2010 | Reply
Matt —
I think his age was a factor, for sure. Clark Haggans signed a one-year deal originally too, and then inked a three-year deal the next offseason.

Outstanding! Now I am psyched for the season to begin!

Wow, did anyone read the article on Dobler? I have heard that the NFL and the union doesn’t really take care of the older players. Maybe it is true.

Now that is spooky! I remember the “good old days” and watching Dobler play. Remember the beer commercials Dobler did where he would start an argument between fans in the stands and then walk away?

Dobler actually resembles Burt Reynolds (if Burt had a longer styled wig in his closet).

Dobler, Dierdorf, Tilley, Hart, Metcalf, Gray, Smith, Whirley, Coryell, Anderson. Classic Cards.
We need a throwback jersey (white) for the fans from that era. We’re the redbirds, not the, “red-winged” blackbirds as the new alternative uniforms suggest.
