About the Cards

Posted by Darren Urban on June 29, 2010 – 10:42 am

A couple of links about the team during this s-l-o-w time:

— The New York Times does a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the Cardinals going into the season. It never helps credibility with wrong facts (Alex Sendlein? DRC attending Middle Tennessee State?) but it tackles the roster thoroughly. It doesn’t exactly paint a rosy picture.

— The NFLPA website tagged along with Darnell Dockett during a recent cruise in Washington, D.C. when he met with wounded soldiers from the Walter Reed Hospital. The Cards (and Dockett) also made a trip to Walter Reed back in 2008, when the team spent the week in the D.C. area between road games at Washington and New York.

— In case you hadn’t heard, there is a Pat Tillman documentary being released Aug. 20, a movie to once again look at Tillman’s military career and his controversial death. Here is a link to a trailer.

the new york times article also says we traded up in the first round to get dan williams… uh wrong. that guy should just worry about over hyping antrelle rolle some more so that new york fans are even more pissed when they find out how inconsistant he is

THE NEW YORK TIMES FOR CHRIST’S SAKE . . . . TRADED UP TO DRAFT DAN WILLIAMS !!??!? For the love of god what do they pay these people, i need a job . . . at least I’ll verify my facts before publishing . . . of course you’d expect someone, maybe an editor to catch these mistakes.

BK have it your way is having a breakout season this year. Im excited about our o-line. leinart is probably pretty excited about having a run game this year too. The playaction pass is going to be matts best friend. If levi doesnt play up to his potential i hope they give big herman a shot. Him and bk would be nails.

DARREN: I just followed the link you provided on the Pat Tillman story and started reading some of the comments posted and was flabbergasted by the sheer ignorance of the comments that I read. Want to get riled up? go check some of the comments……you do a very good job Darren keep it up and thank you for your diligence.

Yeah…. Not very rosy at all. He pretty much said we suck and we are lucky to be in the N F C WEST because its weak! Now we all know there are some bad teams in our division, but come on man! Give our boys some credit. Once again we are lost without Warner, we cant win a game without Boldin, none of the defensive players we signed this off season are as good as the ones we lost and whats all the talk about Matt’s arm not bein strong enough??? I do agree that the article was good…. but if I hear one more analsniff talk about how bad the CARDS will be this year! I’m gonna……. be really mad and I might post another comment just like this one!!! LOL But really. Its like every one just wants us to be a losing team again! Man we need that trophy to shut’em all up! As if the 2008 NFC WEST CAMPS trophy and sitting in the case and back to back NFC WEST doesn’t prove we have unfinished business and we are a team that can win. The roster had 53 on it men the last three years and before not just 4 or 5! GO CARDS!!! All 53 of you:)

Andy Benoit is surprisingly informed and fair. He made a few mistakes, but for an outsider he had a good handle on the Cards. He miised on Rolle who was often lost in space while spectacular at times. Benoit’s bottom line is right: its up to the coaches to coach and the young, the drafted and replacments to step up. That’s why they play the game as you don’t know until you play them; it will be fun to see our boys surprise. Giddyup.

Love the blog. I recently (as in a few minutes ago) read an article on ESPN that the Cardinals are considering signing JaMarcus Russell.

    1: Is this true?

2: Why would Arizona try to sign such a flop?

    Derek —

See, this is how rumors flourish. If you (and you’re not the only one to bring it up today) read what the report said, it was that Az and Minn were Russell’s most likely landing spots. It did not say those teams were trying to sign him or even considering it. I believe it is about a writer trying to connect the dots. Or maybe Russell’s agents floating something out there.

Russell is not coming to the Cardinals.

The Times article is indicative of the respect the Cards will receive until the first snap. And since when was Patrick a “good blocking TE”; and completely glossed over Rolle’s mistackles.
Interesting to note that the other 2 stories involve central figure Donald Rumsfeld. Not to get political, but the praise for Dockett, like Tillman, was more than likely feigned.

These ain’t your Daddy’s Cards, go same NEW Cards.

This moron says we are weak yet we pummeled his Giants on their turf last year and made them look very average.

We’ve upgraded the defense since then and even though Warner is gone, we should have a more balanced offense with the offensive line additions and the progression of Beanie. Leinart has had 5 years working in this offense and under Warner and I believe will silence a lot of critics at the end of the season. Leinart had the same “weak arm” and “decision making skills” as the national champion and Heisman trophy QB at USC. Also, that comeback he almost singly handedly did against Notre Dame was maybe the best last second comeback of all time, proving he can produce under pressure. The guy hasn’t had a full season in the NFL really in 5 years and last time I checked, Kurt Warner didn’t have a gun either. How many NFL passes go beyond 20 yards for any QB in the NFL anyway?

I say our offense stays about the same in production as last year but more rushing yards and less passing. The defense will definitely be an upgrade where teams cannot just sit back and pick off their receivers at will with no pass rush as last year.

Cards win the West easily again.

    Hey Darren –
I saw an article on talking about Flozell Adams. Do you know whether we are trying to sign him at this point?

Other than the draftees, the Cards aren’t looking to sign anyone right now.

Darren- Do you think all the rookies will make it on the roster?

Too early to say. I’d be surprised if they didn’t at least end up on the practice squad.

I haven’t even read the story yet and it’s obvious to me this guy’s a hater based on the photo he chose of Adams with his finger on Rodger’s facemask.

FIrst, the team will prove the NYT author wrong as long as we at least split with the 49er’s. I am very proud that Darnell plays for our team. His on field contributions are superior, but his off the field support for our troops is very touching!

  18. By aaaaudio on Jun 30, 2010 | Reply

your right. This is a fairly negative breakdown of this years team. Interesting read though. Maybe other teams will veiw the Cards the same way and not be as aggressive? Maybe it will take the first half of the season for other teams to understand what AZ has thus giving us a slight advantage if we have our stuff together.

  19. By Cardinal Cody on Jun 30, 2010 | Reply

Ok, so we lost a few players that were certainly contributors, but they weren’t the only ones to help the TEAM win games. Like cardattac said, there are 53 men on the roster. I’m getting tired of folks saying that Warner was all we had going for us. Warner was great and certainly helped improve the organization but Whiz and the staff have done an amazing job of changing the culture in AZ and have been great working with the talent they have and making a team that could win any game they play. Sure, it may not be the same high-flying Cardinal offense we became accustomed to with Warner, but I don’t feel like losing the players we lost is going to set us back so far that we won’t be contenders in the division, or even the playoffs. Hard to say how the season will unfold, but that’s why we play the games.

Okay Cards, you’ve won the NFC West 2 years in a row and you’re still the darkhorse. I think even if they won the Super Bowl people would still discredit it as a flook. Time to shut up the haters and show em all we are football team that is not just gonna roll over and die without Warner, Dansby, Rolle, and Boldin. Go out and Prove It! Go Cards!!!

re: the Times article. You know boys, we are west of the Hudson……….can’t expect too much of their coverage.

We’re west of the NYT office building. If you aren’t in their bubble, you don’t exist. NYT isn’t news anymore, just bloated opinions of people who just need to hear themselves talk. Read Weekly World News instead. Their articles about Elvis having an affair with an alien are more news worthy than the NYT

  22. By tarlsampson on Jun 30, 2010 | Reply

Just read the Times article. Its obvious the writer has NO knowledge about our team other than stats picked up on the internet. He knows about our big name players, just like everyone else… Steave Breston has probably some of the best hand in the league. When Boldin went down, Breaston jumped up for glory, and caught it. Count his droped passes, they just dont happen… Cards HATE to pass, Old Whiz is always trying to run the dam ball, to no avail. Warner loved it, and would pass everyplay if he could. I am sure you all disagree, but Karols Dansby can easily be replaced, (which he was) Rolle was awesome , but we patched the wound. Matt Leinart starts at the perfect time. We just brought out our Dark Horse, Beanie Wells. He will now get the ball ALOT, I almost fell sorry for the teams we will play, ALMOST! HA HA! Cardinals will run the NFC West, you can take that one to the bank.

Right on Todd and i wont waste me time reading the Times article but i will take a wild guess , they picked the Giants to win the east.

I sometimes think the only way to shut these critics up is for the Cards to pull a Super Bowl Champion threepeat!! Starting, lets say, 2010? Heard it from me first, now get it done Cards! Haha

The post from Cardinal Cody is absolutely right. Whiz and the front office with T.J. McCreight has certainly changed the CULTURE TO A WINNING ATTITUDE. Even though we lost Aquan, and Rolle, and Dansby, we filled those holes with our excellent draft in our TCU OLB, Paris Lennon, Kerri Rhodes from N.Y., We are still light years ahead of San Fran and Seattle, and the Rams…Matt Leinart is coming in just at the right time….he is poised, polished, and ready to go..!!!!!!!We are going to win the division again….
