On the eve of camp

Posted by Darren Urban on July 29, 2010 – 4:22 pm

That quiet you hear is not from Darnell Dockett’s Twitter account, although the big tease threw out his firebomb Tuesday night and has held radio silence since (Now Mike Jurecki is reporting Drew Rosenhaus and Dockett will meet with general manager Rod Graves tomorrow about the contract).

More on Nine-0 in a minute.

No, the quiet is the empty building after all the proper equipment has been packed up and shipped up to Flagstaff. The team reports for a meeting tomorrow night. I have to stay here at the facility most of tomorrow, but will be covering the players and coaches as they arrive and I will get any important info out on the blog and Twitter ASAP. And I’ll start full bore on the coverage Saturday.

I am guessing LBs O’Brien Schofield and Gerald Hayes will start on the PUP list, but since a player can come off that at any point in camp, it’s not some kind of death knell if Hayes is on the list (If he is still there when the Cards carve up their 53-man roster, then that’s a problem). I would guess no one is going to be revealing Deuce Lutui’s current weight either, unless Deuce has had a Biggest Loser moment and wants to tell the world.

The Dockett meeting is interesting but doesn’t necessarily mean anything concrete. The sides have met periodically and Rosenhaus used to do the same for Anquan Boldin and all his Cardinal clients. I am guessing Dockett isn’t going to be told he’s about to get a new deal right now. I wonder if Rosenhaus will try to go the Chris Johnson route in the short term, although that money was already built into Johnson’s deal.

I could ramble on all night. Lots of topics to discuss. It just means it’s time for football, and now everything starts to mean a little bit more as the regular season approaches.

Finally! I like the D-backs but this year has been brutal. Suns did help in the spring. Bring on football !

Wish Dockett the best of luck with his new contract. Just sign the man! Why wait when you know you want him for a long career with the Cards.

hey brother thanks for getting us through the long drought of summer! I have to say this was the best off season yet as far as being kept informed on what was going on.

“Time for football”, Darren those are the most beautiful words you have ever typed. lol

Darren- Do you think there’s any chance that Deuce (or possibly another guard) could be used as trade bait bait for an ILB (maybe Derrick Johnson of KC), or do you think the staff will wait for cuts before they decide anything?

I think there is always a chance, but again, I think they will think long and hard about dealing Deuce. He has been in their long-term plans.

And on a side note, maybe we can overrun the SB1070 protests with “PAY 9-0!” rallies. lol Try to fight for something us fans believe in, and bring some cheer to the state. lol

PAY 9-0, PAY 9-0!!! lol Aah, I can see it aleady. lol

I agree about not trading your assets at this time. First see how Hayes responds during training camp and if the Biesels, Washington’s etc. perform to see if they’re capable of stepping up. Look at who is being cut by other teams and if all that fails then consider dealing. Trading such as Deuce would be crazy if an offensive lineman goes down in training camp.

Just pay DOCKETT…him and Fitz are the BEST players on the team.CORE!

Pay 90 or he will play this year and go elsewhere, same with Deuce!! 2 considered as CORE players.

Yes it is that special time of year and YES I AM READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!

Cards need a possible replacement for ILB G. Hayes.

Please tell me it’s not going to take 3 years for
    H. Johnson to play on the OL.

    I look forward to:

A Offense that can run the ball to close out games.

A Defense that gets more sacks and turnovers and TD’s.

More KR and PR yards and TD’s.

The K J. Feely winning the game given the chance.

The P B. Graham’s effect on field position.

    M. Leinart leading this team back to the playoffs.

    Go Cards!!!!

I wish Darnell would fire Rosenhaus.if Darnell listens to him he will be doing, and saying all of the dumb stuff that Boldin did before Q fired him.

Good thinking walter l! Derrick Johnson is a beast. Dude from UT, as a longhorn, was nice and has played well when he had the chance. Last year, he was in todd haley’s doghouse for whatever reeason but when he played, he balled. 2 Pick 6’s against denver to rout them 44-24 and was the last game of their season.

“I never wanted things to get this far” is the key part of the tweet to me.
It seems apologetic, not prophetic, on Dockett’s side.
Maybe it’s contract, maybe something legalize, maybe something personal, maybe it’s “Edge” coming back, despite bended knee.
With Darnell(and Rottenmouth for an agent) life is like a box of chocolates;if someone if giving them to you with a past expiration date, they’re probably not good.
Unless they help you win the NFC West.

darren_ why dont they just sign 9-0 every one knew from the get go what dockett meant on his tweet. come on keep this team together please!

Sign the two rookies first and get them in camp.

Dockett is not going anywhere signed for a couple of more years so we can get his deal done during training camp and he will be a happy camper.

Lutui I have been on his side all off season and he shows up all out of shape. It is up to Lutui to show his worth again this year before he receives any contract offers from the Cardinals.
What angers me most about Lutui is that this is his college QB big chance, Leinart, and Lutui should have his back more than anyone on the Cards in 2010 and Lutui shows up resembling the Pillsbury Doughboy.

I agree that we should not be in a hurry to trade any linemen including Duece as we never know who will be injured in camp and it will give the coaches more time to see what we have at ILB and CB.

I am excited to see how our O line, D line, Leinart, and OLBs perform in the early preseason games. Exciting times go Big Red!.

Do not let Dockett go without an extension… remember what happened to Dansby and Rolle: they were counter offered the slightly better deals than the ones the dolphins and giants made, and Dansby and Rolle did not stay. Pay Dockett bucks! He is a beast of a player and a refreshing Cardinals image…

Did you catch Dockett’s interview with Mike Jurecki? Sounds like there is no more speculation necessary, he is on his way to camp as I type this..
