Top 50 Cards

Posted by Darren Urban on September 9, 2010 – 10:31 am

The Sporting News has put up their annual list of the top 100 NFL players and the Cardinals have three guys in the top 50: wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is fourth in the entire league (behind Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Chris Johnson), while defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is 47th and safety Adrian Wilson is 48th (and former Card Anquan Boldin is 92nd). The 49ers, by the way, have two three on the list: linebacker Patrick Willis is 12th, running back Frank Gore is 55th and tight end Vernon Davis is 69th. Wonder if Dockett will let Davis know via Twitter. Or whether Wilson will when the teams actually play.

Speaking of Wilson, he is hosting the first regular-season Big Red Rage tonight at 6 p.m. at Majerle’s Sports Grill in Chandler. Special guest? Quarterback Derek Anderson, who can talk about his college buddy, Rams running back Steven Jackson. It’ll be on live on Sports 620 KTAR if you can’t make it there.

Glad to see a publication that says Fitz is better than Andre Johnson. No knock against AJ but Fitz is A) Healthier B) a better leader than AJ is. Its not a 1 and 1a its clearly a 1 and 2. Hope to see Beanie up there. Daryl Washington too, i think he may be the real deal.

    Random Q for ya Darren,
Who do you think will start at TE? Do you think that Whiz will throw Patrick in over Spach or give Spach the start?

Great question. If I had to guess, I’d think Spach, given how much time Patrick has missed.

What team has the most number of players in the top 50? As a team, where do the Cardinals rank?

WOW…great to see Fitzgerald getting that kind of respect. I would rank him that high, I’m just not used to seeing OTHERS ranking Cardinal players that high. Maybe someday for DRC but he hasn’t been “great” long enough to make a top 100 list.

    Quick Question?

How many people make it to the pro bowl every year? I would venture to guess it is around 100. Then subtract retired players or hurt players. Wouldnt that list be your top 1 thorugh Whatever, then fill in the rest? That would make DRC one of the top 100, right??

The Pro Bowl is hardly a good barometer of the best players. It’s a tool to see who is who, but it shouldn’t be the final say.

A-Dub and Darnell need to be higher up om the list.
