Think pink and the Suns

Posted by Darren Urban on October 3, 2010 – 12:59 pm

Most of the Cardinals are wearing pink today in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month (Andre Roberts is pictured below). Larry Fitzgerald said he is donating $1,000 per catch and $5,000 per touchdown this month to the cause, so that’d be a win-win if Fitz suddenly explodes here. Also below, Phoenix Suns star Steve Nash (shown below talking to Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt) and his teammates are at the game today after completing a week of training camp here in San Diego.

THIS has to be Matt’s Fault…..Right? But, did you notice how Crisp….and Snappy the team looks under DA?………oops, we now have an un-drafted rookie……………that must be Matt’s fault also.

WHY was Matt relplaced and released……….HOW ABOUT SOME TRUTH?

Doesn’t much matter though. NO unit is worth a damn…….and you wouldn’t need both hands to count the players that are……..a well oiled MACHINE……Coach’em up Boys…..LOL!!!

#1 Cardinal fan from Louisville Ky. It is time to see what Max can do. Everything isn’t all on DA although its time to see if you can salvage somethings with Max. We also need to think about the Bill Davis firing watch. All the plays that appear to be blown coverages is ridiculous.

  16. By CMacyn on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Darren- With Whiz benching DA you instantly see a spark from the O, I was curious about your opinion on how the O looks with DA compared to Max Hall.

  17. By Lone-Eagle on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

What has happened to the defense? they look terrible! It doesn’t matter how good Max Hall does, our defense can’t seem to stop anyone!!!

  18. By Deveau on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

3.5 games into the season, and progress seems to be a word foreign to the Cards. Let’s step through the major issues.

#1) Penalties. Someone should let them know that they are a bad thing.
#2) The O-line. Kudos if you are in need of a sieve. Bad if you are trying to stay upright.
#3) The entire defense. Open the dictionary. Read the definition of defense. Figure out how to apply that to the joke being put on the field now.

At what point do these consistent inconsistencies become addressed?

  19. By CMacyn on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Darren- This is ridiculous, we cant stop anything right now. and I thought the o was what everyone was worried about. BTW Greg Toler is the player of this game and might I just say the best tackler on our D.

  20. By Lone-Eagle on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

I don’t know about the rest of you Red Army, but this is embarrasing! The offense can’t seem to protect any QB! And what the hell is up with all these penalties? This is the most undisciplined effort I think I have seen in a while! This is just straight out ugly!!!

  21. By Rich on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Max Hall sucks worse than DA. what a joke! The defense is the worst I’ve seen. $1800 on season tix down the drain.

  22. By Scott H on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Good riddance, Derek Anderson. Seriously. It is truly a shame we wasted a little more than 3 games on you. Unless you are a relative or good friend of Anderson’s, DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO SUGGEST THAT HE IS A GOOD QB, THAT WHIZ SEES SOMETHING IN HIM, THAT WE JUST NEED TO BE PATIENT, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT SUGGESTS THAT YOU ARE EITHER BLIND OR IN DENIAL. He just flat out sucks and we can’t turn this page fast enough. Hate to say it, but…somewhere, Matt Leinart is smiling. I’m not sorry he’s gone, either, but he has to be feeling quite satisfied that the guy the team chose over him is a friggin’ stiff.

We knew that life after Kurt Warner was going to be tough. But maybe it didn’t have to be THIS tough. Again, this is on the coaches and let’s be honest – they did a pathetic job addressing the QB position this off-season. We spent an entire training camp and pre-season trying to figure out if it was gonna be Leiinart or Anderson…now, one is gone and we can only wish the other one was, too.

  23. By Rich on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

We could have had McNabb, but NOOOOOOO. We got rid of Leinart because he wasn’t a “Leeeeeeeeeeeeder”. So we kept DA and this wide eyed rookie to lead us to the promised land.

  24. By CMacyn on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Darren- just shut my tv off walked to a corner and started to weep, this is crazy, our O line “if you can call it that” has Given up 6 sacks and our D once again can’t stop a knock off Brandon Jacobs. I’m sorry for the rant I’m just sick of seeing this crap.

  25. By card62 on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

I feel most sorry for the season ticket holders who spent their money on the promise of us fielding our best team. I am interested in what you season ticket holders have to say. I did not expect the Cardinals to win today, but I did expect a performance. The Seahawks played with the Chargers and we cannot. Every week a no name running back gashes us. We look like a junior varsity playing a varsity squad. No coaching, no defense, no offense, and our pro bowl punter can not even punt the damn ball any more. We have no answers and can only win if our opponents are incompetent. What has happened to DD and CC? How did Joey Porter get that many sacks last year?
I am sick to my stomach and have been for 4 straight Sunday’s. I think we fans need a bye week worse than the players. I know you kool aid drinkers will say we are 2 -2 and tied for first place, yada yada yada, and we have players hurt yada yada yada, and you haters are just band wagon fans yada yada yada, but please look at the tape first on our 4 games this season and then write me a reply. We are NFL junior varisty for the first quarter of the season. I just want us to get better and play better win or no win. How far we have fallen.
Go Cards and go Max Hall

How do we find out if Betty White is available to play QB? If she’s not mobile enough, we can improve the defense by putting her at LB in place of Joey Porter.

Davis needs to fired. Whiz needs to come out and confess that he’s in over his head and the last few years of success belong to Kurt Warner. Dockett and Wilson get new contracts and where are they? Fanica is over. He needs to hang it up.

i’m not sure how many more games like this i can watch. the falcons hande it to them in an ass kicking like this. and now against a team that doesn’t even have all of their key players in? it’s getting old. the d is inconsistent and continues to give up huge yardage. both on the ground and in the air. the offense can’t get anything going, ever. whiz needs to go with what’s best For this team instead of being Arrogant and Not letting rookies start. he needs to Go with a 4-3 because they clearly have more depth there. why is he trying to copy EVERYTHING the steelers did. this Is a different team. it’s a team of his past, it obviously only works for them. not arizona. this is annoying.

I always like to focus on the positive, well we looked better on punt coverage, wait did the Bolts punt at all? Lennon and Rhodes come to play on every down, and Toller looked pretty good.

That’s all I got. I left the bar after 3 quarters. Another early touchdown negated by a hold and the Cards fold faster than Doyle Brunsun holding a deuce and an 8 off suit. I am am done making excuses for DA, done. Faneca looks tired, Keith looks lost. Stephen Williams has to realize his shirt is made of velcro, when the ball hits your numbers, you still have to wrap your hands around the ball. Hall’s passes look sharp, but Joe Montana & Jim Brown wouldn’t be successful behind this line. Did Hightower get hurt, didn’t see him in the third?

Niners & Hawks lost, so that is good, the Rams are suddenly looking pretty good, so I guess having a piece of first place after four is still a positive. I still think we win the division, and anything can happen in the second season but what is up with the penalties and lazy play c’mon Cards time get this this stuff figured out.

Thank you lord that this is over. I just can not wait for the comments from the players and coaches after this game. Well you know we need to play better defense and get after the QB better and our oline needs to block better.
My favorite part of the game was being down 41 – 7 and going for the 53 yard field goal. I guess that is all the JV can do against the Varsity is kick long field goals. DD and AW I hope you gave a nice donation to the cancer society with your huge paychecks neither of you earned today. The entire coaching staff should also donate their paychecks for this game and Russ Grimm should donate his entire pay for the season thus far. 4 games played this season and 4 embarassing performances.

    GMoney –

hate to say it, but I think you are right. Don’t get me wrong, I think Ken Whisenhunt is a very good coach, I like him, and I’m not bailing on him. But we are clearly seeing that Kurt Warner was THE guy that made this thing really go for the past couple of seasons. Coach Whiz is no different than any other coach in the NFL in that he certainly looks a lot better as a coach when he has a great QB leading the team. Whiz had that during his first three years here, and he certainly looked pretty darn good. The great QB is gone and, well,…it doesn’t look so good right now. All I can say is that this organization better have learned something from this. AND it better not take three more decades before we see success again! Been there, done that and it really sucked.

  44. By GMoney on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

Thanks man. I wish Whiz would make some changes, esp. on defense. I think my kids peewee team could score on them right now. We have some really good players, but there are way to many mistakes. Did they really practice this summer? I’m in Texas so I didn’t get to go watch. I just had to read news reports, but it looks like they have worked on anything since last year. This is killing me to watch. We wre just starting to get a little bit of respect in the league. Now that’s about to go out the window with loses like this one. Breaks my heart.

    Card62 –

Knowing that we could have gotten McNabb (see the Vick interview today where Vick credits McNabb with helping him mature into a real NFL QB, that McNabb still comes in at 0655 to lift) and we let proven talent leave this team, I feel totally ripped off.

Fruit never falls far from the tree. Worried that they would have to pay some guaranteed money instead of phony NFL contract money during a possible lock out, this management “briefly” considered hiring a proven QB in a QB driven league.

We got what we paid for.
OK so I’m on a rant. How bad does the O-line have to be before we get rid of Grimm? When are we going to learn that being a HOF player doesn’t make you a coach. Think the 49’s still think being a HOF player makes you a good caoch?

One more thing, did we really think Mike Holmgren, a former QB coach under the greatest QB coach/head coach ever, made a dumb mistake when he released Anderson from one of the most desperate franchises in the NFL? Yea, ask me again how pissed off I am about spending several thousands of dollars on season tickets.

  50. By James (Cards Issues) on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

It is amazing how the following issues add up to equal our current situation. Let’s be objective and honest….talent evlauation and personell planning and coaching is hurting this team.

I have been a fan since 1988, but we have to be objective about the real issues if they are going to be fixed. Especially the issues that no one wants to really say or be truthful about.

Issue #1: Taking care of old Steeler players that are paat their prime.
Issue #2: Brandon Keith is not a legitimate starting right tackle.
Issue #3: Not getting a legitimate NFL QB is Graves fault. The organization should have made the Leinart decision back in March. They knew back then that the players did not support Leinart…..they know the truth…whether they will admit it or not. Whisenhunt woul have gotten rid of him long ago, but the Bidwells wanted to see their investment play. Derek Anderson and two rookies = losing season. This is a monumnetal organizational failure that could cause the AZ Cards to lose all of its positive momentum.
Issue #4: OLB Speed – No pash rush due to two old steeler OLB’s that have no speed. Technique and discipline for outside containment is horrible. Joey Porter is getting beat and not tackling… and Haggans is overpursuing. No depth behind them to help…..player personnel failure. And I thought Bertrand and Chike were old.
Issue #5: Billy Davis failed in SF. Now he is failing here. Norv Turner exposed him. The safties should have never been up on the LOS against Gates. Countless Bad defensive schematic decisions. Run defense is an attitude…Davis is not getting his guys ready to play…the defense looks sad.

Issue #6: Punt Returns….Andre roberts looks scared.
Issue #7: Penalties: we are the most heavily penalized team since 2007. That is squarely on Whisenhunt. Penalties = no discipline.
Issue #8: We have no identity with our offensive philosophy. The running game has been decent….they need to continue to run the ball out of every formation possible.
Issue #9: Kurt Warner covered for a lot of our team’s weaknesses.
Issue #10: Alan Faneca needs to be replaced with Rex Hadnot. Watch the film he is getting repeatedly beat on passing plays.
Issue #11: Free agency was weak this year. So that hurt us.
Issue #12: No Pass rush….non-existent. If campbell & docket are so great…then where is the production. Porter is at best a situational pash rusher now. Parcells knew this..which is why he let him go. We need young LB’s. Cody Brown is an example of talent evaluation failure at a position of need. obrien Schofield has potential, but the knee is a major risk.
Issue #13: WR injuries…Fitz, Breaston, Doucet.
Issue #14: Season ticket sales are going to drop off next year…either due to a work stoppage or because the team has digressed. Maybe playing in the NFC West will help.

    Just my thoughts…

  51. By NJAzCardsFan on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

I’ll will start with something postive. Fitz is a class act for his contributions to Breast Cancer. It is too bad he didn’t score a few times and catch more passes for that charity today.

After watching the game today, I think it safe to say the only way the Cards are going to the playoff’s is if they buy tickets….

Hall might have been more effective if the O-Line pass blocked and the picked up the blitz???
It is nice to see the defense dressed for the game, with the exception of Rhodes, did little else.

I can’t understand what is really going on with this team….. It seems to get uglier each week.

What Mr. O’Neil wrote was offensive – there are a lot of women’s university rugby teams that don’t think those statements mean anything anymore. Don’t panic we’re only one fourth of the way through the NFL regular season. Maybe we don’t appreciate the joy of adversity enough. I know for sure that Danny White could give all of us some good advice. What do you think is going to happen, Mr. White?

Ok, this was just ugly! What the hell was Whiz thinking when he made DA our starting QB. Why didn’t we try and get the other veterans that were out there? FIRE Bill Davis, Cut Brandon Keith, DA, and Faneca. We all have seen that Faneca’s pro bowl days are over and seriously why is Keith still in the line up? We have a horrible O Line and MAAAAANNNN our Defense SUCKS. I’m so disappointed in our team and Whiz. We really have to thank KURT and T. HALEY because without those two we would have never won back to back division titles. One think I’m tired of is Whiz always saying we’re improving!!!!!!! REALLY!!! This is twice we have been blown out in the first four games. I can’t wait to see what the Saints have in store for us……

  56. By PWalker on Oct 3, 2010 | Reply

The last time the Cardinals were near the top of the NFL in defense was in the 60’s. It is not the players.

Haley did the right thing in hiring proven OC and DC and now they are 3-0 and nobody is going to blow them out. The Chief’s players are probably not as good as the Card’s players.

They really screwed the QB position, might as well cut DA loose, he can’t even be counted on to be a backup now. Matt should have gotten a chance. Give Max the shot now but he might take a couple seasons to really be good. He does look like he has what it takes.

Teams with proven DC are going to be good every year, without one it will always be a crapshoot.

    Just my 2 cents.

To everyone that thinks Max Hall looked bad today. He came into the game with the score being 28-7. Anyone that knows football would know that any quarterback who comes into that kind of situation is in trouble. All we can do is throw the ball, because we have a lot of cathcing up to do. That means the QB is screwed. Hall will look great next weekend against the Saints!

Leinhart might turn out to be an NFL bust. TIme will tell. He would not be the first one. Reggie Bush sure has not done much since leaving USC except help put USC on probation.

But I’m wondering if Leinhart might be a scapegoat for a head coach and an offense that are awful. The coach and the players were pointing fingers at Leinhart as the reason for their terrible offense. Now he is gone, and guess what? The offense is still terrible. Now who are they going to blame?

  61. By Juniorrow on Oct 7, 2010 | Reply

I feel bad for the players there that got a taste of winning and the playoffs for 2 years. I blame the coaches and management for thinking that they could let go of all of that veteran talent and just start over with young guys. Where are the leaders??? This team has no leadership and no talent. The coaches aren’t good leaders either. I haven’t seen any development of players there. WHY???Pittsburgh Steelers players are not the answer for everything. There are other talented players in the NFL. We can’t score points or prevent points. Somone needs to be fired for the choices that have been made this year. Go go from champs to chumps in one year is rediculous. After looking at our schedule I don’t see us winning more than 4 or 5 games. LOOK at the schedule do you think we can beat anyone that’s on our schedule?? Where’s the toughness on this team??? Where’s the Discipline on this team?? Where’s the SMARTS on this team???? I blame the coaches. Players take on the personality of the head coach. Sorry to say but it’s true. The 49ers may be 0-4 for but they don’t get blown out by teams. That’s coaching.
