Anderson to start at QB

Posted by Darren Urban on November 3, 2010 – 10:07 am

I’d expect coach Ken Whisenhunt to address this after practice today (and it was necessary, since the starting quarterback talks to the media every Wednesday after the workout), but the Cardinals will start veteran Derek Anderson at quarterback Sunday in Minnesota. Given the rocky games rookie Max Hall has had the last two weeks, it’s really not a surprise, especially since generally, Anderson played pretty well against Tampa — you know, except for that last bad decision/interception thing. Besides, the environment isn’t the easiest in the dome up there.

Much more later today.

This just in,Coach Whis has no idea on how to evaluate a NFL QB.

I was really hoping “Anderson” at QB wouldn’t happen again to us but unfortunately it’s like voting for McCain, he’s the lesser of all the evil!

It’s not poor evaluation; it’s a matter of not having a true first string NFL QB on the roster and trying to guess which player might be able to do the best vs. the competition weekly. He’s evaluated and doesn’t have what he needs simply put.

And so the game of musical quarterbacks continues. Does he somehow think that by switching them back and forth, one of them will magically become good?

I still want Jamarcus Russel, he may lack character, work ethic, and discipline but at least he has natural ability under all the baggage.

Not sure why it took him 3 days to come to this realization. We all know Whiz has no clue as to how to evaluate a NFL QB.

His critria for judging QB’s talents.

    1. Plays well in Preseason
    2. Team responds to the guy
    3. Looks good in practice

What he should be looking at.

    1. Play on the field in real games
    2. Acuracy under pressure
    3. Can he improvise when things break down

Well we have seen this story before and it doesn’t end well..Anderson = Kent Grahm. We will finish 4-6 and end up with a 6-10 mark.

Lets all hope for a change next year.

How can we go 4-6 from our current record and end up 6-10?

We all know the qb situation is a mess, but I would trust Whiz at evaluating qb’s over a bunch of arm-chair quarterbacks

  10. By Relaytv on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

I am a Max Hall fan, and I am not really bothered by this decision, because I know that neither of our QB’s will have a chance against the Vikings unless Whiz commits to the run game more. (3 and outs are ALWAYS better than picks)

And since he seems unwilling to do that, I would rather have DA take the pounding than Max.

BTW, our defense hammered the Vikings last season, when the were MUCH better than they are now.

This game is winnable, if our defense and running game show up.

Back to back trips to the playoffs and a SB appearance, and you guys have the nerve to talk trash on whiz!? At least he doesn’t stick with the fan favorite max hall and tries everything he can to put a winner in that spot. I guess we can bring back buddy ball or even Dennis (my sons a perv) Green and go 3 and 13. We have jack for a QB and we are 3 and 4, so just be happy that we are still in the running for another playoff berth! I would much rather be in this position than be back in the bleachers at sun devil stadium watching a 4 and 12 team

    Agreed relaytv.

Vegas, however, doesn’t appear to agree. Of all the games on the board Sunday, MN has the widest spread (-9). I think I’ll take some action on the Cards given Favre’s injuries. Huge game for us — SEA plays the Giants and if we can win our game, there’s a good chance of a 3-way tie for 1st going into the game next week where we host them.

  14. By johnnybluenose on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

no surprise to me. at least anderson gives us a chance to win. and, sure he made a bad decision throwing into coverage and giving up the pick late in the game. but i blame whiz more for calling the play in the first place. a smarter decision was to run the ball, hopefully gain some yards, but take some time off the clock. we could easily have won that game. and i think we can win this week with the vikings the way they are. we need to get some stops on defense and be smarter on offence…and show some heart. c’mon guys !!

    I lol’d at your comment…

“still want Jamarcus Russel, he may lack character, work ethic, and discipline but at least he has natural ability under all the baggage.”

Everything you pointed out about him is horrible.. you look for a Qb that has good work ethic, character, and for the most part discipline. A quarterback that lacks discipline will be a cancer to any team..

I say, quit expecting the second coming of Kurt Warner, because it’s not going to happen, give these guys a shot and give Whiz a break, most of you were calling for Hall when Anderson wasn’t clicking, than got your wish, now you want Skelton… and what if he does badly? It’s been the same for the last two years, when Kurt had a couple of bad games you called for Matt Leinart, when Matt did horrible, you called for Kurt.

Quit crying and support the Cardinals! It’s not like our team has any rings in the first place, it’s not like we are loosing anything, we’ve been the laughing stock since as long as I remember. Lets rally for who ever is QB or simply go watch tennis.

Hey Darren–Elimination of turnovers has to be the main focus at practice this week. If we can clean that up we have a shot this week. Vikings are struggling and the Moss situation just adds to their problems. How can the Vikes trade a 3rd round pick for Moss–What a disaster?? They deserve what they get!! No wonder New England keeps their team competitive every year-they just keep fleecing teams draft picks away!! We have to play a smart clean game this week. Do you agree with starting DA at the Metrodome??? I do!!!

I know this is a DA post, but if we don’t put in a waiver claim to get Randy Moss, it’s very apparent that the Coaching Staff and Management is throwing in the towel for the season. With a guy like Andre Roberts on the team who’s single-handedly (PUN INTENDED) lost us one game, and nearly cost us another with his inability to field punts, there’s NO REASON why they can’t give his roster spot to Randy Moss, severely upgrading this team at the QB position by not allowing teams to stack 8 in the box. 14 carries for 50 something yards against the #32 ranked rushing defense is PATHETIC. Fitzy’s numbers are down in part from his injury, Doucet’s injury, Breaston’s injury, and the loss of Boldin. There’s nobody to take away the double team.

Adding Randy Moss IMMEDIATELY take some of the heat off of Larry. Gives us a wicked deep threat, and allows Breaston to go back into the slot where he’s incredibly dangerous. It also allows Breaston the change to field punts, which is a HUGE upgrade over Roberts. That guy isn’t even worthy of the Practice Squad grass!!

  22. By jdcrow59 on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

Okay, now barring injury keep Anderson in there for the rest of the run. Win, lose or draw. It makes no sense to ruin whatever future Hall or Skelton may have by looking over their shoulder every time a mistake is made. Run the heck out of the ball and limit Anderson to 15-22 passes per game. The rest of this season will hinge solely on the defense keeping us in games. If Anderson has to throw 30+ passes………… over. Time to step up “D” and play like you keep saying you can.

  24. By We'll miss Q on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

This was the only move that could have been made. Yes Anderson has missed wide open receivers, just like Max did. Yes they both had thrown pics, but Hall’s were returned for TD’s which KILLS a team. Derek’s last pics was terrible and a forced pass to a guy being double covered(where are all the idiots who used to say”we need to throw to Fitz even when he is covered” now?), but the 1st pic was not DA’s fault it was LSH’s.

Like it or not this is the only qb that gives us a chance to win.

Before anyone asks for Skelton, please DON”T all he is, is Max’s brain in Derek’s body.

I don’t know what to make of our season anymore. I think we have a shot at the division but that is as far as it goes.

I assume the comment about Russell was a joke. And sounds like Moss will end up in St Louis. That could be a big booster for them, if he doesn’t become a cancer for the 3rd time in a season. With a little help McNabb will get released, and we can pick him up. Then everyone who’s been clamoring for it can see if we really did miss the boat on him in the offseason.

DA is terrible, always has and always will. Can’t make smart decisions, or put any touch on the ball. He was a pro-bowler by default, so stop saying he earned it. Brady was the original choice but backed out after his Super Bowl game. DA went because other options couldn’t make it as well. Hall has potential but is still too raw. He needs some time to learn and hopefully build up some arm strength. The secondary is easy to make the jump when the ball has no zip on it.

If DA plays smarter we can win some games. Our defense is solid and can get it done, As long as a certain DB doesn’t take any plays off like he is known for. The secondary as a whole can’t sleep and give up the big plays. It killed us last week(2 big passes, and the 50yd run w/ 2min left)

Is everyone nuts!!!!! I generally read the responses but don’t comment but some of the mindless comments of late are more than I can take. 1-All of this talk about Whiz not being able to evaluate talent or coach. Pure nonsense! Has no one noticed the improved play over the past 4 years- yes even this year- from previous years. Has no one noticed the marked improvement in draft pick talent and overall talent on the team. That ain’t Rod Graves’ doing. Has no one noticed the improved attitute of players on the team. Has no one noticed the meteroric rise in the number of wins over the past four years! Whix can’t coach or evaluate talent!? 2-Whiz should have gotten a better QB or should get one now or should somehow turn Hall or Anderson into probowl QBs. First, when warner walked away from upwards of 10 mil Marc Bulger was not available and Whitehurst went to Seattle. Philly wasn’t dealing Kobb. Don’t talk to me about McNabb, has no one noticed that he has been benched for poor play- play that is so bad they decided to turn to Grossman! Literally the only option was Anderson and just because neither he nor Hall have impressed don’t assume the 3rd string QB for the Texans would have been any better. We got the best option avaialble at the time. Maybe better options will be available next year but not this year. So you do the best with what we have but don’t expect Whiz to majically create talent just because he is a good coach.

In the end lets just relax, move away from the shrill and hyperbole, let the season run its course and then see where we at the end of it. But lets stop harping on the most consistant and talented part of this team- the coaching staff. It reflects poorly on us. Its ok to question a call or a decision, or a players performance but lets not take every issue to the extreme. Such over reactions is exactly what we don’t want in a coach or in a ownership. Lets not over react as fans.

Incredible. How anti-coach these posts are. I have been season ticket holder since they came to town. The Cardinals have never, never been this good. This consistent. 1 NFC Title, 2 division titles, a Superbowl appearance. No other coach could have done that with the Cardinals and many have tried. This coach has turned this franchise around. I saw plenty of games before Wiz in which Kurt Warner looked awful under Dennis Green. Did it ever occur to any of you that Kurt Warner became a better player because of our coach and the system he installed..
Be patient. Coach will get good play from the Quarterback position.

How is Moss going to help us if we don’t have a capable qb? or a capable o-line?
Think about it. Moss is a locker room cancer. By your reasoning; the other teams in the league must bbe packing it in too if they don’t claim him. Just like you, Moss is just another pretty face on the jumbotron.

  38. By Kevin on Nov 3, 2010 | Reply

KidStallyn, have you read the stories about Moss’ release (in particular the one about the incident when the team brought in a caterer)? I don’t want him. He’d be a cancer, and in any event we have good receivers, we don’t need one more (there’s a reason the team allowed Boldin to go). Fitz + Breaston = over 200 yards last week. I’d be extremely disappointed in the Cards if they added Moss.

Is this the coaches final decision on the qb situation for the remainder of the year or do you think he’ll continue with the revolving qb door. At some point the coach has to realize that not only does the qb merry go round hurt the qb but it affects the whole team as well. Also, have you heard anything from the players as to who they would rather have under center?

Worse than the lienart warner flip flop during games team. Worse than the just matt when Whiz showed up team. Now we get to flip flop between hall and anderson? Haha and I was thinking we didn’t have the worst qb selelction out of the leauge. Anderson is the best choice. Max needs to sit back and study. The season is not lost yet. The division is close. The Cards are a good team that needs a few breaks. The D has picked it up but needs to be able to close out the game. Anderson needs to take advantage of the situation and take control from the first snap. No more stupid mistakes. Don’t force the ball DA.

azcardsfan- that was meant somewhat tongue in cheek. In reality i think there is a 10% chance that jamarcus russel has changed his attitude enough to fit in with this team. I do believe that WHiz and company have strong enough personalities to help a young man over come some bad tendencies.

I think big Herman may have played with jamarcus but since he is in the dog house “practice squad” i am not sure coach would care much about his opinion on his former teammate.

If I was Jamarcus, i would be hanging out in az right now trying to get anyone to talk to me. He was a great college qb, and he has all the ability in the world the problem is i dont know if you can fix a lack of motivation.

Signing a talented but hugely distracting wide receiver like Moss is not the answer. With all the talent Randy Moss has why do you suspect he is looking for his 3rd team in one season? The guy has to be a locker room cancer…Our currect QB’s can’t get Fitz the ball enough, what happens when Moss doesn’t get his touches? Leave him to some other team please!

It hard watching the 3 and outs week after week. I do agree the QB “switch” is getting old too. We have got to stick with one QB and go forward. I guess at this point since the cards won’t pick anyone up we we have to go with the “lesser of the two evils” and trudge through this season and wait for the draft or FA.

On other QBs, I loved Jeff Garcia, but to come in to this team in the middle of the season, to disrupt team chemistry and learn a new system, he is definitely not the answer. Let’s just try to live with what we have and let Max learn. I don’t think Anderson is the long term answer, but Max could be. I hope he has thick skin and continues to listen to Coach Whiz and his staff and he should be fine. Look at some of the bad games Kurt Warner had here, even after Coach Whiz came.

Also, on Doug and Wolf this morning, they compared Max’ stats in his first 3 starts to Ron Jaworski’s. They were very similar with Max actually slightly ahead in some, so give the kid a break.

WOW!!!! I haven’t been on to comment in some time now. I’m kinda glad I have stayed away now that I read these latest ones. I can’t believe everyone is ready to kill Whiz after what he has brought to AZ. Its obvious to me there are some bandwagon fans upset. How could Whiz who has two new QBs he has never coached before be blamed for there pour play????

Really guys??? Its easy to sit there in your chairs and talk smack. And how if one of you were coach we would be 8-0 right now…. Right??? Trust me I am upset about our teams record too. I can think of two games special teams dropped the ball big time. Not to mention the more carries out RBs seem to get the prone to turnovers they become. And at the worst time too!!! And to top it all off have two shaky QBs so the opposing teams will likely stack 8 in the box. This makes it harder to run alot. Its no secret. Every team is gonna bring the blitz more often then not just to put our shaky QBs in bad situations.

Its an all round team effort. We have players that we need to get the ball to. Like the WRs we have. If that pass from DA at the end was completed and not barely caught for a pick. I doubt anyone would be sayin that was a bad call. I understand that DA is not Warner. No doubt he needs to work on his accuracy. Hell Warner may have thrown a pick right there to. I seen it happen before. LOL

If you wanna blame some one…. How about Warner for bailing on the last year of his contract. I dont blame him… I’m just sayin it put us in a tight spot.

Keep the Faith guys. Even great teams and coaches have bad years. We will make it through and become a better team it the end.

I’ve been a fan since I was a little kid and this franchise was playing in St. Louis and I’ve lived and died (mostly died) with them ever since. I’m not bashing Whisenhunt and staff because the last few seasons are the best run this franchise has had that I can remember. I do however feel that some bad decisions have been made regarding the QB situation. Going into the season with DA as the starter I believe was ill advised, benching him in favor of Max Hall was even more ill advised. Clearly coach didn’t feel that Leinart was worth anything and released him. Fine, but why did it take him so long to come to that conclusion? It isn’t as though Whiz didn’t know who ML was, he’d been with the team. Okay, so now we’re back to Anderson. Sadly I think he is our best option at this point. It puzzles me though when I read fans postings calling for blind faith in this organization…I’ll allow that Whiz and staff have been a breath of fresh air overall but please don’t expect all of us to have complete faith in this organization. Have you looked at the history of this franchise? It is historically one of the least successful franchises in all of professional sports….not just in the NFL but all professional sports. I’m as hopeful as anyone that the current regime has the team on the right track for years to come and I’ll be rooting for them every step of the way no matter the outcome as I always have but a healthy dose of skepticism is natural and even advisable IMO.

    J. Russel tried out for the Redskins at 286lbs. He obviously is in not in football shape, especially for a QB.

Moss was signed by the Titans this afternoon.

Whiz has the respect of the players. The problem is he changed the culture of the Cards into winners and now we(the fans) expect nothing less. He is an excellent coach and we are lucky to have him in Az.

What I can’t understand with Anderson/Hall is that they are throwing into double coverage and trying to force the play. Warner, if one watched him closely, checked all of his receivers then threw the ball.
If Anderson/Hall took a second or two to check the receivers they would find someone else wide open, as Fitz has 2-3 DB’s near him almost on every play.

Sigh…. Everybody has to stop thinking like fans. I know we are fans, but this isn’t fantasy football, this isn’t High School football. This is all a growing process. We will eventually get better QB play. It doesn’t happen overnight, and no.. Matt Leinart wasn’t the answer either.

Darren, with all the “unusual” things that have happened so far in 2010. (Moss trade and then release, Merriman release, Trent Edwards cut, Matt Leinart cut), do you think that without saying it… teams are doing things a little differently because of the potential for the work stoppage ?

Things seem to be going on that we never see….. ever.

I agree that we need to support the team much better. Nobody has even pointed out the fact that this is the first back to back losses the cardinals have had since the 08 season. Whiz knows what he is doing. I do think we need to run the ball more too. Keep the faith fans. Season is not lost yet. Only 1 game out of first with a rematch vs seattle a couple weeks away.

Alright Derek and Whiz, it’s TIME to prove us ALL wrong! Derek, just have some confidence, man. Go out there, grab that damn bull by the horns and lead! Time to put the past and all the mental blocks aside. F*ck, I want to have a winning season – yes, I am being self-centered here. But, crap, it’s time to start doing something – and now! There is talent all over this team, they need to get behind Derek, push his ass if they have to, and go out and WIN! Yeah, Fitz said he has to earn it, hell push it on his ass – make him take that initiative and go out and lead this team to victory, week-in and week-out. In all honesty, one could take half of those INTs out of his stats if our RECEIVERS held on to the ball. I think Fitz needs to put more criticism on his WRs versus his QB – these guys should be backing their QB and catching the freaking BALL! C’mon man! It’s time to roll! Remember, “We do this together”? Time to put that plan in motion on the field every Sunday…Go Cards! We will win this Sunday against the Viqueens!!! 27-13.

The Titans lost a WR last week to an injury. This week they filled that position with one of the best WR in the history of football. R. Moss will help the run game, the QB and the other WRs just by being on the field. Despite the negative pressure he attracts, defensive coordinator hate to see him. Big ups to the Titans for impoving their team in just one weeks.

Kurt Warner was great in giving the Cardinals plenty of time to search for a new QB and here we are 9 months later without the answer. Ok they went with Leinart but they panic a week before the season started. Da was first up with and undrafted rookie on deck. They both got their shot but the rusult where pretty much the same.

The problem was never which QB was in the game but the scheme we want to run. It’s the scheme that has failed more so then the QBs. Change the scheme to improve time of possession and reduce turnover. Our defense will have a real chance to contribute and be a factor. You can’t keep giving up 3 to 4 turnovers a game and expect the defense to blank a miracle out their butt. Limit the other teams possessions…level the playing field.

I don’t care if we just kick 3 or 4 FG a game and got a TD every other game we still will fair better then we have been. Even FG are a result of a good drive and good time management.

Tim, I agree with you on selecting q b. You hit it right on about trying to select a the starter for each game.
Since the coaching staff thought max and da were both ready, but not skelton, maybe we should take a look at him, and if they are wrong about him too, that could be a real answer to a prayer.
I know they won’t give him a chance, but he does seemto have the best credentals. Strong arm, acurate, big and strong. Most never thought Brady or Favre or Unitas and others would ever make it either.

I think its time for a registration and sign-in mechanism on the Cardinal blog site. It’s clear from some of the inanity that has been written, that we are getting a lot of Cardinal haters from other team’s doing drive bys against our team and coaches.
It’s healthy to have dissenting opinions, but when the one location we come to support the team becomes a cesspool of nonsense its time to regulate the input.

Matt Leinart will be a free agent at the end of the year. Why doesn’t Whiz fix his first head coaching mistake and GET OUR FRANCHISE QB BACK!!!! This mistake has costed us …..a guaranteed playoff appearance, a guaranteed division win (YES I SAID GUARANTEED!!!) If we had a franchise QB we would be well above our division competition. It is funny how Whiz comes up with the excuse oh the team didn’t rally around him but I find it really hard to believe the team thinks DA was better then Lienart. I mean unless the whole team is blind, Lienart is a far better choice. Whiz cut him because he personally did not like him but Whiz needs to learn that this is the NFL it is about winning and if you don’t win you are unemployed and the decision to release Lienart may in the long run cost him his job. If he truly didn’t think Lienart was a good QB he should have took a chapter from Buffalo’s book and played him 2 weeks then release him if he wasn’t being productive. I am not saying our season is over but unless our defense can continue forcing turnovers and our running game does something consistent it will be over. Oh yeah by the way here is something the coach should do. GET A OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN YOU PUT THE BALL IN THE WORST QB’S HANDS (DA) IN THE RED ZONE, DOWN BY 3 AND ALLOW HIM TO THROW THE BALL TO FITZ WHEN HE HAS 3 DEFENDERS ON HIM. WHAT A S-T-U-P-I-D MOVE AND IT COSTED US THE TAMPA BAY GAME. Thank you very much for not practicing what you preach. Let Beanie run the ball more often and maybe he can actually be a 1000 yard rusher. I swear the whole “In whiz we trust” has gone out the window with our division championship.

I have a question for you, and I don’t think this is a stupid questoin. I am just trying to understand something as well as wrap my brain around the whole situation, so bear with me. First of all, I am very curious. The Cards traded Q away for a 3rd and 4th or 5th rd pick. I believe they used the 3rd rd pick to get K. Rhodes, which has been okay. He has done well for his first year with a new team. My question comes with the other draft pick. The Cards traded up to using that draft pick to pick up John Skelton from Fordham, (and yes I know this is old news, I am just trying to put my ducks in a row). What I am getting to is, his numbers at Fordam looked quite impressive. I mean his senior year, 150.05 passer rating, 3713 yards passing averaging 337 yds per game with 26 TD’s to 10 picks and 5 rushing TD’s, not to mention 6’6″ 245 lbs. My question is, Why not Skelton? I keep hearing that he is not great in practice. Yet I also hear that Hall and Anderson do well in practice, but we haven’t seen it yet with the exception of a couple of glimpses. I don’t know about you Darren as well as all your readers, but Skelton looked pretty impressive in Pre-season, better than both Leinart and Anderson put together, and yes Hall looked good too. Here is what I am getting at. We just faced a Bucs team that we should have beat. Turnovers obviously killed us! Duh! Our defense had a hard time not only getting to Freeman, but sacking him because of his SIZE!! Size makes all the difference. Now as much as I can’t stand him, I have to bring him up, Roethlesberger! UGGHH!! He is big, and hard to bring down!! I look at it this way, the organization chose to trade up for this player. I have to assume they did it for a reason, such as, they saw a good QB. Now as I said before, According to reports, Hall did well in practise, yet made poor choices in games. Skelton hasn’t done well in practise, perhaps he will do well in game time situations. I compared Skelton and Freeman. I know they come from two different schools and different divisions, but Skeltons numbers are far better. I am not sayin’, I am just sayin’! Now Darren, what is your opinion, and be nice!!

Q along with a 2010 5th round pick was trade to the Ravens for a 2010 (this Year) 3rd and 4th round picks. They traded the 4th round pick for Kerry Rhodes and used the 3rd round pick to trade up 11 spots to get Daryl Washington in the 2nd round. McFadden was traded to Pitt for a 2010 5th round pick in which they used to draft Skelton.

    Well Darren,

As much as I hate to say it, Hall obviouly isn’t ready either, and yes by saying that I am eating a large helping of crow. He appeared ready in his first game, but I am actually starting to think it was just poor play by the Saints. So basically what I gather you to be saying , and yes you have said it many times before, we only have one legit QB on the roster in Anderson!! It sounds like we are in for a long season. One other thing, if he isn’t ready, then why on earth did they draft him. Sounds like they should have drafted Hall and brought Skelton in as the undrafted free agent. I know. Someone else would have drafted him, and who knows with all the musical QB’s they have had in the league, he might be starting somewhere else. Sorry if I sound like I am being a Smart -a$$, but that is my opinion!! Also I have seen him play and he looks good to me. He looks composed and solid in the pocket. He has quick speed and able to run to avoid the sack. He appears to have a strong arm as well as accurate. He has similar intangibles to that of both Josh Freeman and Roethlesberger, but hey that is jjust my opinion. One more thing, if he is not 2010 ready, then why wasn’t he kept on the practise squad? Nevermind, no need to answer, I already know, someone else would have already taken him by now, so better option, get rid of Leinart. Makes sense. Not really.

I don’t blame Whiz for trying out Max Hall for the Seattle Game, but he probably should have never started him for the Bucs game. Fact is our D played so well the last 2 weeks all we needed was a QB to not turn the ball over and we would have won both (DA did turn it over twice, but only once if you don’t include that drop from Larod S-H), all too easy in hindsight I suppose, just disapointing as both of those could have been wins for us. I would be shocked if either DA or Hall were starting QB for us next year, however there is a long way to go yet, DA could turn it around. I’ll just put my faith in Whiz going forward, GO CARDS!

I wish they would’ve continued to develop Hall. I think he has a lot of potential. I do agree that Derek Anderson is playing a bit better, but as he’s a veteran, I don’t see him getting significantly better. Hall has the chance to improve and needs more starts to do so.

That being said, I’m just glad I’m not in Whiz’s shoes. He’s got tough decisions. Luckily he’s a great coach and will work something out.

To all the McNabb lovers… that might make the next season or two work out but I’d rather develop a long-term franchise QB than pick up a guy who may or may not have a whole lot of future seasons ahead of him. Lets invest in the future rather than use a Get Rich Quick scheme.

I never said Hall and Skelton were worthless, as a matter a fact I believe they could both be excellent QB’s. Right now, there is only one Legit QB on the roster because obviously Hall isn’t ready to take over or he would still be starting and by your own admission as well as the coaching staff, Skelton isn’t 2010 football ready. I don’t believe Anderson is even close to the answer for this team. Look at it this way, right now we are 3-4. Between Hall and Anderson, it is not getting done. What harm can it do to Give Skelton a try? What is the worst that can happen? We lose. Skelton just might surprise everyone. I look forward to his first start, but hey that is just me!!

Thanks Darren for once again reminding us that Skelton is miles away from being ready. Do people not understand that you can’t just throw a guy out there who isn’t ready to read NFL defenses? They’re eating Hall up and the staff thought he was much more ready than Skelton. Having better tools doesn’t mean much. And please all you guys, stop saying, “We’ve got nothing to lose! Let’s try Skelton!” We have a division championship to lose. We’re not 1-6, we’re 3-4. We are one — ONE — game out of the division lead, with HOME games remaining against the two teams in front of us, and have probably the easiest schedule in the NFL remaining (we DEFINITELY have an easier schedule than SEA and STL who both have to face NO and ATL whom we’ve already played, in addition to KC who we all have to play. (And SEA has NYG next week also.) There are teams with 2 wins in much better divisions than ours (like MN) who haven’t given up on the playoffs, and you guys are giving up on a team in the worst division in football, with the easiest schedule, who just barely lost a game that would have us tied for first.

I don’t get why everyone is throwing a hissy fit about the QBs I for one can care less about who throws the ball or if we win games, all I want to see is how we are improving and what would need to be adressed and how it will be adressed, for an example our defense was not that great last year and it has improved in my eyes (Sacks and INTs are good but having 3 and outs without those are just as good). As for our QB deal Wiz is handleing it well, changing your qb is like rolling a die you never know if you will land on a six, one, four whatever its all a matter of chance. (As in preformance) thats what happens when you lose a HoF QB you can replace him it will take some time.

To all band wagon fans-although I do respect your opinions I don’t think you guys understand how hard it is to coach a team, especially one with these kinds of problems, saying that Derek is the worst QB in the league is not true, for instance farve has a worse INT ratio i believe it is 7-11 or 6-11 plus Two of Andersons picks were either tiped or were caught as they were fumbled (the Ruud one) hall has 1-4 Derek has a 4-7 they are equal ratios so Hall and Derek are statistically the same in that context but stats are for losers as one player said. You can look good on paper but I want to see how you look in real life.

Mark posed the question, “Is everyone nuts!!!! Well Mark, as I read this blog from day to day it would appear that many are. You wrote a great piece
pleading for some calm and sanity. A superbowl appearance, 2 back to back division titles, the team ranked 11th in popularity. It’s like none of this ever happened, and the fact that it did had nothing to do with the head coach and his staff. I never realized that Kurt Warner did it all by himself, while never throwing an interception. As I last recall their were 52 other players on the roster besides the QB.

I also recall Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay) made the comment (in the paper) that it took him 4-5 games before he started to feel comfortable standing behind the center. So far Max has only had 3. Max had two interceptions that game (Tampa). However, as I understand, the first one had a lot to do with Beanie missing an assigned block resulting in Hall being blinded-sided just as he threw the ball. Had Beanie not messed up, that pass might well have been completed resulting in only one interception.

Let’s stop this collective ranting & hysteria and make this a fun and positive blog to read.

Bored with begging for Hall already? And really, Garcia? Russell? Take a reality pill. Moss? Why in the world would we want Moss? We HAVE great recievers.

It’s ok to question decisions, consider changes, but can people at least make some sense in what they say? Make suggestions that are at least in touch with reality and have some factual basis? There is no magic wand that is going to bring us a Tom Brady or Payton Manning, or even a McNabb.

I think we should make a serious trade for another quarterback. I always thought Donovan McNabb would be a good fit before he got traded to Washington. Remember, after Warner retired, Coach Ken said Leinart was our guy, but McNabb should have been our guy. This of course did not work out. If not McNabb, then Kolb while Vick stays in Philly, but I doubt Philly will give up Kolb. We should sign one for 3-5 years. A trade and sign will give Hall and Skelton time to grow, mature, and reach their prime. McNabb would be good to move and set to retire here.

I wish people would start turning on their brains. Donovan McNabb ???? Seriously, it’s November 4th, even if he were waived today (which he is NOT going to be) and the Cardinals picked him up. How effective do you think he’d be in 2010 ??

My guess is not very. Not very effective at all. Although I’ve never played QB in the National Football Leauge, I’ve been told it’s “pretty hard”. People are expecting a player, even a good player, to be able to come in and without OTA’s, without Training Camp, without ANY working knowledge of the offensive terminology, without ever working with any of the Cardinals personal come in and grasp the offense… AS A QUARTERBACK ?????????

    It would be almost impossible.

    Cardinal Quarterback Situation

The Good – 2011 Free Agency – 2011 Draft – 2011 Development of John Skelton

The Bad – Derek Anderson is very very bad.

The Ugly – Max Hall. (I predict Max and/or Derek are not on our team
next year, but Max I predict is first to go)

Full disclosure – I have hated the handling of our QB situation since KW retired.
I agreed with benching Derek and starting Max Hall, but now I also agree that Derek should start and Max should sit and be our reliever on Derek’s really really off days.
All of you waiting for the big tall Texan John Skelton in 2010 remember the Big 12 conference passed on him and off to that football power The Fordham Rams he went and his senior year Big John did do battle against the murders row of college football consisting of Rhode Island, Columbia, Colgate, Old Dominion, Bryant – really Bryant ha ha ha, Cornell, Lafayette, Holy Cross, Bucknell,. Lehigh, and Georgetown. Oh and during his senior year against this murders row of college football Big John record was 5 wins and 6 losses. I say again 5 wins and 6 losses. I do not know about you, but I do not wish to pen my 2011 season hopes on Derek, Max, or BIg John.

Coach Whiz – I am still proud to call him my coach but he has some major coaching to do the rest of this year and next season so I wish him well but will reevaluate Coach Whiz after 2011 season) (Whiz’s 2010 moves that are so hard to understand 1) QB situation 2) Q traded 3) Alan F. signing 4) play calling
    5) Another lack luster year for our O line. 6) Defensive front 7 doing worse this year than last year.

Vikings Our keys to victory is NO TURNOVERS FOR ONCE.
Defense play well and pressure Vikings QB.
Special Teams play well. (Did you see Kenny I flub Ben G. great punt?)
Play all 3 running backs all during the game with 60% run mix and 40% pass.
    Go Cards beat VIkings

Bottom line is that Whiz is the best coach the Cardinals have ever had!He will figure a way to the top of the west.If DA can just play ok and not get our recievers broke off we will be fine. Please don’t stare down the recievers!!!!!Get Howling going in the screen game or just get the ball to him somehow! We need to finally start pounding the rock like we should have been doing all along(Step up Beanie we need you).Whiz please pull out at least one flea flicker or some kind of trick play.Whiz used to toss in a crazy play here and there and they seemed to me to be exciting for fans and team and often huge gains.Let Breaston throw a pass to Fitz?(Spice it up please!!!)

How can you expect Max to come back and have any confidence? This is exactly how wiz ruined Leinart. If you are constantly breathing down thier necks, how can you expect these guys to go out there and take chances?! We need to face that Kurt is the reason the team rallied and played to their abilities! I guess Rooney was right…. Tomlin was a better fit!

Poor off season management of the players, (ie trading Boldin for…. NOTHING!!) no leadership in the locker room, inconsistincy with playing time… hopefully Grimm stays, and McNabb is in the desert for 2011

At this point, it doesn’t even matter who is the “starter” for this team. Because whoever that is, it’s highly un-likely that he’ll still be in the game in the third quarter!

Vikings will win!!! It will not be a exciting game, but we have AP,enough said.
P.S.- Favre is going to have his best game. He is going to light it up, you have not heard who we signed, he is awesome.

when are the Bidwells going to stop being cheap and pay for a decent QB so the games would be at least fun to watch. Now I just watch and take bets on how bad the Cards will LOOSE

If coach Whiz is calling the offensive plays, why tell your QB to pass inside the 10 yard line.and cause the infamous Harrison Superbowl runback over and over again? What’s wrong with running with you have the worst passing in the NFL? Fans are gonna booo and quit coming!
