Immortalizing Cards
Posted by on February 15, 2011 – 9:25 amWhile the main reason receiver Steve Breaston wanted to meet comic book icon Todd McFarlane a couple weeks ago was Breaston’s love of comics, there was a side benefit Breaston didn’t know about much before he headed over — McFarlane’s company also produces SportsPicks figures, the six-inch replicas of many sports stars. Breaston got a brief talk about how the figures are made (photo to the right) and got a chance to see examples of almost all the figures the company has created (each sport’s figures are hanging on walls inside the McFarlane offices).
Given that the Cards are in McFarlane’s backyard, it’s been natural that a few Cardinals have been immortalized in plastic. It’s been easier over the past few years with bigger names and more on-field success (the franchise has come a long way since Emmitt Smith was McFarlane’s first Cards’ choice). The picture below lays out all the past Cardinals, with the knowledge there is a new Larry Fitzgerald pose set to be unveiled in September, on sale at McFarlane’s Westgate store next to University of Phoenix Stadium.

What The Hell Wilson is the foundation of the Cardinals & Lienart & Smith Get One Before Him McFarlene You stink Wison Dockett & DRC should be made ASAP

Even at first glance I spotted some inaccuracies on McFarlane’s figurines.
First, Smith is actually going forward instead of running straight up the back of his OL. Leinart is looking like he’s going to throw deep without hesitation instead of a short check down pass, Warner isn’t wearing gloves (or defensive linemen, for that matter) and Wells isn’t fumbling the ball.
Wasn’t Fitz’s model closely replicated during a game the following season?

How about a Levi Brown in his “look out” pose?

R Robles-
I’m sure he made the Matt Leinart figure back in 2006, right after Matt Leinart was drafted. There was a lot of hype about, especially after Dennis Green called him a “Gift from the heavens” or something.
I would be sort of surprised if he hadn’t made a Matt Leinart figure, because those would’ve been a huge money-maker, considering Arizona was all hyped up about him.

I wonder if Leinart’s pose would be him sitting on the bench???

It was the Fitz TD at the end of the first half against Carolina in the playoffs.

i want one of Wolfley at the buffet line. oh that might use too much resin.
oh wait the Super blogger Darren Urban himself mocking an ignorant fan demanding to know why he wont answer his simple question on if he thinks Warner might be back or if lienart would have been better than DA.

Garcias, Brian. (That’s Spanish for gracias.)
You know what would be cool action figure? One of Aeneas Williams wearing one of those beautifully ugly HOF jackets.

I also hate the off season. I was having football withdrawal during the last Card game. I want a Kurt Warner sports figure! but I live in KS now and have no idea how to get one.

Why isnt there one of great Cards of the past like Frank Sanders, Dan Dierdorf, Aeneas Williams, Ottis Anderson, Rob Moore, Larry Centers, Ronald McKinnon, Kwamie Lassiter, or even Jake Plummer? Nobody enjoyed Emmit playing for us or the draft pick of drama queen/party animal Leinart. Ive been a fan since the move to Arizona and the only ones I enjoy are Fitz and Warner

RE: Figures
Don’t forget, McFarlane has to pick players that can have some kind of value nationally. I don’t think Ron McKinnon moves the needle.

And Brian – Good job knowing that but, c’mon…how does ANY self-respecting Cardinals fan NOT know that???
