Fitz is SI’s back-to-football cover boy

Posted by Darren Urban on July 25, 2011 – 7:18 pm

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald is Sports Illustrated’s choice to represent the NFL on this week’s the-NFL-is-back issue.

Speaking of football, with teams now contacting undrafted rookies, NAU is reporting the Cards will sign Lumberjacks receiver Daiveun Curry-Chapman, while @NFLDraftInsider is reporting the Cards will sign Michigan State offensive tackle DJ Young and Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin.  The Devlin signing is interesting; once the Cards get a veteran (and assuming Derek Anderson is released) that’s five QBs. With 90 on the roster, maybe they carry an extra guy for now. Or maybe Devlin replaces someone else — it’d come down to Max Hall or Rich Bartel. UPDATE: And @NFLDraftInsider is calling OL Kris O’Dowd of USC too.

Yes!! The storm is coming, the Cardinals have as good a chance as any other team to make the playoffs next year, we have some spending money. Spend wisely and we can fill these holes pretty good. Paul Posluszny?? We can do this, this is our chance. Lots of free agents.

Nice picture of Fitz there! Getting keen…

Wikipedia has been updated to reflect that the Cardinals have signed Pat Devlin. Any truth to that, or someone just messing around on Wikipedia?

    RE: Devlin

The reports are that Devlin will sign with the Cards. Nothing official from the team.

Find him a QB (Skelton, Kolb, or Orton) and get him a new contract.

PS: An Offensive Line would be nice as well.

Is Breaston going to be resigned???Geese will be a SHAME if he isn’t.

On Pat Devlin’s Wikipedia page it says that he is a member of the Cardinals. Do you know if this is true? I think he would be great for our team!

Wikipedia is an unrespected source when it comes to just about anything. since anyone can add information and edit the writings its credibility is very low. i can go in there right now and type something rediculose and it will be allowed. wikipedia is more imaginative rather than factual. Hope you dont take health advice from that site.

    Hi Darren,
The season has finally arrived. No build ups or what ifs, just 100% percent football. Free agency, trade season and summer camp all exploding our tv’s and computer screens. There will be so much going on, you’ll wont sleep much the next few weeks.
As you always do, keep us up to speed on the latest.
    Thanks Darren, Go Cardinals!

I was hoping we would sign both Pat Devlin and Kris O’Dowd, but don’t know enough about the other two. If this is true Claxton and Hall just got some competition.

With free agency about to start, are there any under-the-radar guys out there that the Cards may be targeting? Or any undrafted free agents that management may be taking a look at?

    RE: Targets

I have heard no names other than the quarterback, which, as everyone has written, seems to have Kolb out there first.

Darren, do the cardinals plan to do the right thing by their employees?

Nice pic Fitz, Now lets get Orton and return to our rightful spot at the top of the division.

Kolb is the first choice with tons of up side. But he is unproven and a veteran back up should be had as well (Orton).

    Lets Roll

CBS News confirmed Pat Devlin has signed with the Cardinals. Makes me wonder why they would sign another young gun if they aren’t looking at someone older than Kolb. 🙂

thats a cool magazine. waiting for the cardinals to get kolb as the qb. i also want them to stay wit breaston. its no doubt the will get a new contract with larry fitz

Speaking of quarterback Darren, it was relased earlier this morning that Pat Devlin signed with the Miami Dolphins. Not the cards.

    RE: Devlin

I saw that. Not a surprise, and one of the reasons teams don’t release anything until they actually have a signed contract. Plenty of UDFAs flip-flop.

Darren , don’t you think Todd Heap would help out in the cards passing game. Would take some of the pressure off Larry and help out if we were to lose Breaston. Thanks.

Apparently Pat Delvin is signing with the Miami Dolphins now

Lots of Veteran Lineman Getting released, John Clay RB out of Wisconsin is going to be a steal. Our Line should be ok, just work on the LB, DL, and QB situation, we are in decent shape. Free For all on Free Agents, which ever team works the smartest and hardest has a chance at a Super Bowl. This season is crazy, everyone has a chance at a lot of players.

Would you rather have Orton signed over Kolb? Why is nobody mentioning Orton. 21 tds 9 int, 10 in 09 he had 18 tds 12 ints. he also had two consecutive 3000 yard seasons. What are the chances we do sign him? he is also cheaper then what the eagles are asking for.

    RE: Orton v Kolb

I’d want to know the compensation for each first. They are investigating both.

    Never mind.

Please, Please, Please Cardinals, do not trade for Kolb! I’m sending the vibe out there and I need everyone to help! Go Orton or even Mcnabb for a year to develop Skelton. Then we will have a QB AND a pro bowl corner!! I really hope kolb doesn’t happen.

He might be the cover boy in Arizona for Sports Illustrated, but not necessarily in the rest of the nation. SI puts out regional issues. I know this because years ago my sister told me to go buy SI as the Missouri Tigers were featured on the cover. Not in California they weren’t. SI is not like TSN (The Sporting News) which is a National Publication. SI tailor makes their stories for local consumption.

Darren, Sando has a link to a Patriot fan run website that has been tracking undrafted rookies for a couple years now, has 9 listed for the Cards.
