Skelton up for “Never Say Never” award

Posted by Darren Urban on November 15, 2011 – 10:15 am

After his three-touchdown performance and a game-winning drive late Sunday in a win over Philadelphia, quarterback John Skelton has been nominated for the NFL’s “Never Say Never” award this week. It’s done via fan vote, and fans can vote right here. The other nominees include Denver quarterback Tim Tebow, who led his team to a win despite completing only two passes against Kansas City — the last being the game-winning 56-yard touchdown throw, and Steelers cornerback William Gay, who clinched the Pittsburgh win against Cincinnati with an interception.

Skelton certainly qualifies as a “Never Say Never” kind of guy. He’s started slow in both his starts, but found a way to produce big touchdown drives late both times.

Nothing against Kolb, but I’ve seen Skelton’s poise and swagger since day one. Hope he gets a shot!

    – The latter is something you CANNOT say about Kevin Kolb.

We have been waiting for Skelton to get a chance to lead this team I’m sorry Wiz you gotta have Kolb step aside and let the kid right the ship. Its obvious the O-line believes in him as well as the fans. Also defense keep it up the offence needs your skills to get them pumped up for the win, and to you 9ers fans you better look out behind you the CARDS are back in town and your goin down.

    Darren,
If the investment in Kolb and Skelton were the same, then Skelton wins hands down- it’s not even close.
I’m so disappointed that Whiz would bring in Kolb who has many of the same attributes as Leinart. Leinart was Green’s choice so Whiz knew how to be objective and get rid of him. Kolb, on the other hand, has Whiz’ fingerprints all over him. It’s time for Whiz’ stubborn side to “shine” thru.

Forget about Leinart he’s just an unpleasant memory. Houston don’t really want to give him the keys to the car. There are rumblings about bringing in Favre if Schaub looks like being done for the season and you can bet it’s not to be Leinart’s back up.

The only time I care to hear about Leinart is maybe during a very very slow off season in one of Darren’s revisionist pieces.

In the Ram game, Skelton looked really comfortable in the drive with no huddles and it was a good drive. I think it throws the defense off. It would be nice for that to happen in the 49er game.
P.S. Im a Skelton fan but would rather have Kolb in when he is a100% so he can learn our offense. Between him and Skelton, we can go far. Just my opinion

Hey Darren– Skelton and our defense will have a legitimate test this week at SF. I think our D will have to play more physical this week–SF is more hard nosed than Philly. Really like our young players-they seem to be improving the last 2 weeks. Must stop the run and I hope Feely can come through this week–he is due. SF is due for a loss as well–they are just playing mistake free ball–nothing fancy. Darren- how did you think our O-Line played against Philly??? I think pretty well–they have been taken heat of late!!

    RE: OLIne

I thought they got better but in the first half, seemed to have a lot of individual battles they lost, costing QB pressure or Beanie problems.

Who knew Justin Bieber had an NFL award?!

Tebow will probably win, but Skelton is definitely a worthy candidate!

Funny thing, I’m a philly guy livin’ in AC, but have always been a fan of Kolb since the day he was drafted. Wish him the best of luck. I predict he will do great things in the NFL. Seeing everyone shout for Skelton, reminds me of when everyone shouted for Kolb in replace of McNabb. Football fans are the same all around. “Quarterback sucks this minute! Get someone else!” Happened early in the season with Eagles. When VIck was out and they replaced him with third string Mike Kafka. Everyone said keep him.

Coach Whisenhunt knew what he was doing all along in keeping John Skelton from the lions den while he was developing…he’s had some experience developing quarterbacks I’d say. I didn’t hear all these crys and cheers for Skelton last year…believe it was more like…”we need to use our draft pick to get a QB”…”Skelton went to a small college therefore we need somebody who is recognized from a credible university” ..yada,yada*always thought that one was especially lame* The only reason Tebow will win is that Denver fans will get behind him whereas Cards fans don’t know how to show the love for our guys.
SUPPORT THE CARDS AND VOTE FOR SKELTON NOW!

skelton starts slow but no where near as slow as Kolb starts, atleast we get a solid 4th from skelton, Kolb is non existance in the 4th, (most important quarter).
