Kolb inactive, Skelton to start

Posted by Darren Urban on December 18, 2011 – 12:47 pm

As expected, quarterback Kevin Kolb (concussion) is inactive today, meaning John Skelton — coming off his best game as a pro — will start today against the Browns. The Browns already knew their backup, Seneca Wallace, would start at QB because Colt McCoy is out with his own concussion,

Also inactive for the Cards:

  • WR Stephen Williams
  • S Sean Considine (foot)
  • LB Joey Porter (knee)
  • T D’Anthony Batiste
  • WR Jaymar Johnson
  • WR DeMarco Sampson (ribs)

You might have said it before, but how long does it take to open and close the roof?

Another win with Skelton at QB….ya know, you people who claim that Skelton is doing nothing and these wins are all courtesy of the defense need to change your tune. Because if you continue to make this claim, you’re just sounding REALLY foolish at this point. This man is playing some good football and he is ABSOLUTELY contributing to these wins. Sure is funny how the defense wasn’t winning these games when Kolb was playing…but now that they ARE winning – with Skelton at QB – it’s ALL about the defense. That is just absolutely ridiculous, folks.

Don’t get me wrong – I am following these games very closely and, yes, the defense has been playing MUCH better lately. But the defense is NOT winning these games on their own, despite lousy QB play. Skelton may have played his best game yet today and they needed it. They DO NOT win this game without his performance today.

For me, this is nearing the kind of situation that we had with Leinart & Warner going into the 2008 season -where one guy was SUPPOSEDLY the starter but the fact was the other guy had flat-out earned the right to compete for that spot. Whiz absolutely did right by this team by allowing an open competition, which was won by Warner. IMHO, I think Skelton has earned the right for the same consideration and I hope Whiz will do right by the team again next season.

Oh, forgot to say – another nice win today! Not exactly the dominating performance we could have MAYBE expected against the Browns, but doesn’t matter. Once the game starts, all that matters is who wins in the end. CANNOT believe that we are at .500 after a 1-6 start but this is just awesome. Glad to see them winning these games at home and keeping the house full. Three games in OT and we’ve won them all and they never lack for excitement! A 99 yard punt return….a 52-yard screen pass for a TD….and today, another big punt return and a BIG catch by Fitz to set us up at the 4 yard line. Great stuff.

I think skelt. should finish the season then whiz should have a open camp next year. Darren what is the difference between TEBOW and SKELTON ? they both win games in the clutch but it seem like skelt does’nt get the respect like teeeebowww.

what a way to not give up cards and stay in the game a good win.whatever the cards do with skelt. and the gameplan after halftime they should put in the first half maybe the off. will not have a slow start. (tough loss raiders)

Even if some of the people in Arizona aren’t giving Skelton his due credit and respect, the sports commentators/new reporters are certainly taking notice. He’s not perfect but certainly has demonstrated that he can think under fire, is poised in pressure situations and can get the ball down the field. Not all his misses are on him but fumbles by receivers. Today’s game was a great team effort and we are where we are because our guys are selflessly giving up their personal stats to allow their teammates to make big plays that win the game. The challenge by Coach Whiz was brilliant and seem to spark turn around we needed. The Browns played tough and are looking very different than they did earlier in the season with their starter…much like us. At this point everybody is playing for their lives and no team should be counted out because of where they fall in the power rankings. I would hate to lose John Skelton to another team who recognized his potential and offered him a starter position next year and would be really disgusted if he were treated as another “pawn” in Bidwell currency. Great game guys and coaches! I’m afraid the Cardiac Cards are gonna kill me with a stroke but will die with a smile on my face! HAPPY MONDAY IN CARDINALS LAND!

If only we can have Doucet, Early as our 2nd QB next week. I’m sure no Card fan can question it because what we say doesn’t matter anyway. Gotta love being a Card fan aye? We get so much first hand or direct respect, especially by Darren. If only the Card owner(s) would listen to us like those with the Denver Broncos because there isn’t any resemblance between our teams. Johnny S. isn’t Tebow b/c Tebow lost therefore Cardinal fans blow.

Could you let us know if NFL Network is going to replay the Browns game and at what time? DVR didn’t record the game…NFL Network doesn’t always advertise what game is on or when…figured you have the insiders information. And no, you’re not my TV Guide.

    Merry Christmas, Darren!

    RE: Replay

I don’t think it’s a given the Cards-Browns will be replayed. But if I hear something, I will of course pass it on.

Much rather have Kolb behind center he is a better QB to bad we did not go for Jeff Garcia as back up always a fan of his and he is a very good QB. Would be nice to have him 2 games behind center a least two times a year sure he would enjoy taking a part the 49ers. Before the year started I was hoping we would of nabbed Orton but we got Kolb in a very good trade. DRC not a bad CB but like Peterson got burned a lot and hurt. Upside with Peterson loves those TD’s on punt returns. If Garcia gets cut at the end of the year we should grab him even if for QB coach he could teach Kolb a lot. Very happy for Whiz. Been a fan a very long time.
First time I watched the Cardinals was when Hart was QB next year Lomax came in. Been a fan since. Never was even from the area where they where in. But my favorite team. From owner to personal department to coaches to players. Once a year would send in my cards to get signed by players and each year returned with all signatures at the time made a little boy happy as can be, Thank you Cardinals.
