Whiz interested in Cards playing Hall game

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he’d be interested in playing in the Hall of Fame game in Canton to kick off the NFL preseason. The game is scheduled for Aug. 5. It’s not something he’d want to do every year, but a fifth preseason game right now wouldn’t be bad, especially when you’re trying to get as much work as possible for quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. (Whiz didn’t say it, but given that there is less on-field work allowed by the CBA this offseason, I’m sure an extra game and a few more days of training camp isn’t bad either.)

Mike Jurecki wrote the other day that he had heard the Cards were asked to play. I have not heard the same, but there figures to be an announcement sooner rather than later (NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail only that the league was working on it.) Alex Marvez reported the Saints have volunteered to play in the game. Last year, the Hall game’s matchup was announced April 12, although the Hall of Fame is hoping to announce this year’s game as early as next week.

Usually, at least one team in the Hall game has a player being inducted. Former Saints tackle Willie Roaf is part of the 2012 Hall of Fame class. (It’s too bad former Cards cornerback Aeneas Williams didn’t get in this year.)

UPDATE: The Cards are the NFL team with the longest absence from playing in the game, last playing in 1986.

If nothing else, I would at least put them somewhat back on the radar.

    RE: Hall of Fame game

It’s the first preseason game of the season, played on Hall of Fame induction weekend in Canton, Ohio. The week before the preseason schedule begins in earnest.

Another free agent to watch for Card fans….

Adam Schefter of reports that the wide receiver turned down a five-year contract offer from the Colts recently, raising the likelihood that he will hit the open market on March 13th. Garcon had a career-high 70 catches and 947 yards last season, his fourth in the NFL

    Phoenixraven1 –

How right you are. He was definitely the best CB in the league for part of his career and arguably for almost all his career. How many of the other inductees can make the same claim?

Well, that would ruin one of Flagstaff’s best commerce days with the Red-White scrimmage.
And isn’t it tradtionally an AFC-NFC matchup?

No. Last year’s game was supposed to be Bears-Rams, and 2009 was Bills-Titans.

That would be awesome as a Cardinal fan, let the Nation and the World see the Cardinals in National TV. Lets get it done ARIZONA………

    Behavior or custom usually performed.
Do teams get paid for the exhibition? At least for travel?
And what’s the going cost for a HOF Grimm hot dog at the concession stand?

It would be nice to see them play in the hall of fame game and really so who can be our starters. Hey D that would be nice if they would pursue Garcon.

Cards will have to go to the Pro days for Stanford and hope Martin is still there at 13 (food poisoning in phx made him not do drills-hopefully he would be okay with the food in Tempe)

Adams only had 19 reps at 225lbs, you would think at ohio state they would have a good strength program, I guess with the off the field issues with him he may not have been that dedicated to the game..)

Hall of Fame game would be great for us this year.
.We fans in the east see our team at a decent hour, and our young QBs, WRs, RBs, and TE Housler could get some more work along with our OL and improved defense.

    I hope this happens.

Hey D This has been the knock or big question on Adams for 4 years at OSU.
His talent has always been off the charts, but his dedication always brings
questions. My opinion only, but for me too risky with our first round pick.

    Go Cards

Did Neil Lomax play in that game?

While I agree with your skepticism about Adams, and his sudden rise up the charts I wouldn’t get too worked up over his bench press result. Tony Boselli didn’t do much better with 23 reps. Not sure which is more overrated, the bench or the 40 yard dash. If anything, an aspiring LT with an impressive bench result would be a red flag because they usually do poorly due to the length of their arms.

Didn’t the cards play the Steelers in the first preseason game in ’09?

    RE: Cards-Steelers

That was after the Hall of Fame game.

It would be great to see the Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game. I would definitely make the trip to Canton to watch them.
