More D-Wash honors and Townsend leaves

Posted by Darren Urban on January 11, 2013 – 12:51 pm

Some quick tidbits on a quiet Friday …

— Linebacker Daryl Washington gets named to yet another all-NFL team (although Bucky Brooks picks three inside linebackers and two outside linebackers for his new 12-man defense, apparently.) UPDATE: Washington was named second-team all-pro on Saturday as well.

— Assistant defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend is leaving, heading to the college game. He will be the new defensive backs coach at Mississippi State.

— The Cardinals signed seven players to “futures” contracts: LB Tim Fugger, DT Ricky Lumpkin, LB Colin Parker, DE Everrette Thompson, RB Fozzy Whittaker — all of whom ended the year on the practice squad — and G Jeremiah Warren, who was on the Patriots’ practice squad. (WR Gerell Robinson signed a futures deal with Denver.) A “futures” contract just means it doesn’t officially kick in until the new league year in March.

Pro-Bowl is a popularity contest as well as an award for talented and consistent plymaking ability.

If we’d been a playoff team this year, Washington would’ve had more exposure to the NFL fan base and he’d have been in.

I don’t take much stock in this kind of award (although it’s still cool wonderful to receive it), there are probably ten players at any position that could earn this type of honor, but only one to three slots.

Washington certainly played not only at the top of his game, but at the top of the game. We’ll fix the offensive issues (we worked for a few years to overhaul the defense, now it’s time to add a few missing pieces to the offense and we’re bound to become elite.

Washington is one great person and player, i would bet somewhere back in HIstory he is a direct desentant of our first President George Washington. Both are natural leaders.

Washington deserves all the credit he is getting. Not too long ago he was labelled as too small and could not stop the run. Now he is mentioned with the best in the league. Great job. Congratulations to Townsend. I’m sure he will do a great job at Mississippi State. Looking to see him back in the league soon as a defensive coordinator. Don’t really care about the practice players until they acutally make it to the team and are able to produce. Our Offense. very simple. FIX THE O-LINE. It all starts there. You can’t run or pass without them. That’s what cost Whiz his job. Didn’t have to guts to fire Grimm. Hope we get a good coach.

Well, there goes one of the candidates that I thought Horton might choose to be his DC if he was selected to be the Cards’ HC.
There are still two Cards’ defensive position coaches that Horton could choose.

I think it’s pretty obvious that the cardinals are going to hire mike McCoy if they wanted Horton he would of already been our coach already no doubt…there are pretty much no more candidates and they are no interviewing anyone it’s pretty clear they are waiting for McCoy to be done and Horton is staying as our deff coordinator…just please no Haley we need a fresh start with new ideas and a coach that is hungry!..draft offensive line man in the first Landry jones in the second and the honey badger in the 3rd he has the talent it’s just the off field issues but it seems like Peterson and him are buddies and he can help him stay on track..if some how we can get Edie lacy in the second as well via trade that would be awesome and let Landry jones grow behind kolb for a few years and hopefully are new coach is smart enough to put fitz and Floyd in the outside with Roberts in the slot!

Please don’t hire Mc Coy the OC from Denver, Just watch game , the guy is just like Wiz. Denver could have won game in regulation.
At the 2 minute waring BAlto. was out of time out and it was third and short , with Payton Manning all he had to do was complete short 3tr down pass and game was over. but they ran the rookie into the line and punted.

Then in over time same thing 3rd and short and moving and rookie ran into the line and punted, all they had to do was short pass for frist down.

Don’t hire this guy no matter what Cards. Please he is a stiff.

The guy they should after is Jim Caldwell from balitimore he has some guts.
