Keim: Cuts coming Friday

Posted by Darren Urban on August 29, 2013 – 6:19 pm

There was no not-playing-tonight list from the Cardinals, probably because it would have been so lengthy. Most starters aren’t playing by design, including QB Carson Palmer. One notable absence: TE Jeff King. Bruce Arians said this was going to be a big game for King and he is not in uniform. I assume it is knee-related. It does not bode well for King’s future, I wouldn’t think.

Only offensive starters were WR Andre Roberts, WR Michael Floyd and TE Jim Dray. Only defensive starters to play were LBs Karlos Dansby and Jasper Brinkley.

General Manager Steve Keim went on the pregame show with Jody Jackson. It’ll be a busy time for him, obviously. He said the Cardinals should be able to pare the roster down to 53 by noon Friday. That will include moving Jonathan Cooper to one of the injured reserve lists.

“The next 24 hours to 48 hours we are going to have a lot of meetings,” Keim said.

Big game for Ryan Williams, although Keim didn’t seem like someone who is ready to cut the running back loose. “We need more consistency,” Keim said. “He’s frustrated, we’re frustrated. … We still think the guy has some ability.”

Keim also said the team has already fielded some calls from other teams about trading for surplus defensive backs. A deal like that would not be a surprise.

3-1 in pre-season. I’m good with that. Game is just starting on NFL Network (11:00 MST) so I haven’t seen it yet, but I like the score. Now if our starters can score touchdowns like our 2nd-4th stringers, we’re playoff bound.

I’m going to go sleep and watch the game tomorrow, I’ll catch a few winks for BA and Keim since they probably won’t.

As a side, we can say it was our 2nd and 3rd string guys scoring so it doesn’t count, but it was against their 2nd and 3rd stringers. And our guys were operating under BA’s coaching. Should be equal talent against equal talent, so the better coaching wins. That says something to me about the potential of this team.

And we bounced back well from the San Diego loss. Something else I like to see.

Well, now I have to actually watch the game and see for myself. Looking forward to my lunch tomorrow and reading what ya’ll thought of the game.

i could get used to us having a surplus of db’s every year, either get to trade for what we want or draft picks.
a few players made statements so it will be interesting fri.even though it was preseason,it had the feel of something more, glad for those that impressed, good luck and good health.

After watching the game, I think Lindley, after a horrible year last year should stay. He looked rather decent in the game. Some of the rookie WR’s looked good also.
It looks like the Cards are on the right track now to be conpetitive again….

Just happy to see they righted the ship after the Chargers debacle

Jefferson looks good at safety. I thought Lindley was average, seems to accuracy issues. Brown #13 is a stud at receiver. Thomas #7 seems scared at times. DC Jefferson needs work at tight end but is so big and seems to have a knack for getting open, korey sperry is a keeper. I wish Nate potter would wrestle the job from levi Brown. Nice long kicks from Feeley. Javier areanus seems slow and Justin Bethel looked lethargic at corner. Love the 5 RB’s. Taylor and Brown should be the number 4 and 5 wrs. .
