Taylor promoted as Fitz insurance

Posted by Darren Urban on September 14, 2013 – 1:17 pm

The Cardinals did a not-altogether surprising roster move today, promoting wide receiver Kerry Taylor from the practice squad and cutting cornerback Jamell Fleming. It makes sense with Larry Fitzgerald ailing from a bad hamstring. Does this mean Fitz isn’t playing? Not necessarily. But it does give the Cards an option for a fifth wideout if Fitz should suffer a setback.

Fleming was the sixth cornerback. He could in theory be signed right back next week (and Taylor sent back to the practice squad) if he clears waivers. He might be claimed by someone, but for the Cards he has been pushed further down the depth chart than you would’ve expected from a former third-round pick.

    Doubt he clears waivers.

Not going to clear waivers in a pass-happy league looking for anything to stop the QBs.
Another mistake in a Graves draft that – just last season – has lost Fleming, Kelemete, possibly Lindley and backups Massie, Potter and Bethel. Only Floyd has the potential in the near term.
Reiterate — this was just last year’s selections.

I find it surprising they would cut Fleming, I thought he was doing a more than alright job.

Smart move B.A. why not cover the base. If Master Fritz is not 100% not worth the risk. He is worth much more healthy than risking him and not having him later.

Not the end of the world playing without Larry. Thought Palmer was forcing the ball to Larry to justify his existence here.
Now we will see a few extra plays from PP. Overall the WRs group will be a little faster against the Lions.
I like the Cards chances against a QB like Stafford who is “soft” and prone to errors. Key: PP has to play a decent game.
So if the Cards are going to win a few games this year, a home victory against Detroit is a good possibility.

Cards will be OK…. Without Fitz they are very fine… with him they are just super fine.

oops… it loaded before I was finished…. Anyway, the aerial attack has never been the fault of the WR’s, the QB was the problem… And now Floyd is ready to step up and show his stuff… Roberts is a weapon as well… With the others, they can still go 4 wide…. We are deep at this position… some good players… Be well… GO CARDS, We don’t want anyone coming into our house and moving our furniture around!!!!

How was Fleming doing more than an alright job? He was inactive last week, and he literally had one good game last year.

I liked Fleming,a little surprised to see him cut. I doubt he clears waivers. I think it speaks tour depth at that position which is a good thing. I like the move to bring up Taylor.

4 WRs and one is iffy. 6 CBs
Not sure why anyone is shocked by this transaction. I was impressed with Taylor in the preseason games, hope Fitz is healthy but anxious to see what Taylor has.

Just watched Kurt Warner take the Lions over the Cards. Ouch!

i too,had hopes for fleming, don’t think he’ll clear waivers, would have been nice to at least have gotten a trade for him.we’ll probably be drafting a db next year, would be nice to uncover a gem across from pp,but i’m sure tackle, olb,dd’s replacement,qb,safety, and kicker will all have there say.

I notice a few keys to Detroit’s team are dinged up.: These are some “KEY” players for the Lions:

Starter DT Nick Fairley did not practice until Friday (limited)

Starter LB Ashlee Palmer did practice much either.

FS Louis Delma very limited and his backup Don Carey did not practice.

DE Jason Jones is dinged up too. (knee)

Starting OT Jason Fox did not practice all week. (Groin) (Pick on him)

Cards coaching staff surely will make an effort to expose some of these issues. The Cards injuries are IFFY… I am only concerned about Mendenhall and Roberts.

Go Cards…. The Lions haven’t won her in 20 years….

I guess we’ll get sick of watching the replay of that Patrick Peterson pass to Kerry Taylor, but man that highlight is solid gold in my opinion.

How bout that Taylor? Looked like he ran good routs and caught the ball when it came to him. Great to see the young man out there making plays. Go Cards!!!
