Family? Yes, but business for Goodwin

Posted by Darren Urban on October 10, 2013 – 4:20 pm

Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin hasn’t talked to his brother in a while. He’s busy — offensive coordinators in the NFL tend to be this time of year — and so is his brother, who just happens to be the starting center for the San Francisco 49ers.

The last time the two talked was the Friday the Cardinals were in Sarasota, Florida, prior to the Buccaneers game. He did some Facetime with Jonathan Goodwin while sitting on his hotel balcony. Harold Goodwin’s wife and children left today for San Francisco to hang out with the family and attend the game. But this isn’t about hugs for Harold.

“He’s my brother but not this weekend,” Goodwin said. “It’s about business.”

So there will be no discussion this week. He will go up to his brother, a 12-year veteran of the NFL, before the game to say hello, although he is expecting Jonathan to be sitting on the bench, staring into space with his headphones on like he always does to prep for a game. If any conversations would have taken place this week, Harold said he would’ve tried to find out what the 49ers were doing if he could.

“You’ve got to,” Goodwin said. “That’s the nature of the beast. At the end of the day I’ve got a mortgage to pay, so beating him is part of that.”

Do you know what the Panthers and the 9’ers have in common?

Carolina played us right after a 38-0 victory, and SF is just coming off a 34-3 win.

I’m glad the last 9’er game was a blowout. I’m glad theyre all puffed up and feeling good about themselves.

    Just like the Panthers.

The 49ers can be beaten. We’ve seen this this season. They’re not the powerhouse they’ve been for the last two years.

This is a very winable game and another next Thursday and we’re in the Division lead.

Peterson will stop Q, thank god we have Washington back to hopefully cover Davis. Take those two out of the game and the 9ers offense will sputter. I think the Cards will do well this weekend so long as the Offense runs the dang ball and doesn’t abandon it so quickly.

One of the benefits of throwing long (besides TDs) is that the defense will double the wide receiver creating a mismatch somewhere else on the field. We don’t have that type of player. But just view this video (it’s only 7 seconds). It shows Roy Green beating three Redskins for a TD. One of the guys is HOF Darrell Green-one of the fastest players ever in the NFL. This isn’t a long high pass where defenders are running to the ball but rather three guys trying to stop Roy.

From what I’ve been reading it sounds like Kaepernick has some kind of foot injury. It’s been kind of down played in the news, but he’s lost some scramble ability. Let’s light him up defense!

Goodwin is actually a good player so that is cool going against your brother even though it’s not man against man.

If the Cards are lucky, maybe they can drill a couple of 9er QBs and get Skelton on the field. 🙂

The niners have a coach that is a big baby, I once watched him jump in the air do a full 360 while shaking his arms throwing his hat on the ground. I would love to watch him do that again in this game. I laughed until I got cramps. Watch him cry, it is pretty funny. I can feel the win. Get gore in the back field and keep him there. Make them pass. Go cards.

Funny wasn’t it Skeletor that was qb the last time we beat the miners , anybody remember the game Leinart played against us as a raider ……was carted off the field to fall into obscurity……..what a bust.
