Tweets between friends (PP-Cromartie edition)

Posted by Darren Urban on March 15, 2014 – 6:35 pm

Nothing has happened on the free agency front for the Cardinals since Thursday, when they signed Ted Ginn. There will be other signings at some point. The Cards, as I have mentioned, want a cornerback, and everyone is waiting for the puff of white smoke announcing that perhaps Pro Bowler Antonio Cromartie is that guy. We’ll see if that happens. Again, it might even just be on a one-year deal, if Cromartie can’t get the kind of money he’d like. But there was an interesting trade of tweets today between incumbent Cardinals Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson and Cromartie Saturday evening.

First came Peterson:

Answered Cromartie:

To which Peterson replied:

Peterson isn’t the one negotating the deal for the Cards of course. But Cromartie certainly sounds open to coming to Arizona.

UPDATE: As you can see above, Cromartie has deleted his tweet (although you can still see above what he wrote.) Maybe his agent let him know putting that thought out there wasn’t good for free-agent business.

So far, I like our chances.

Thanks for sharing…it would certainly seem that we have reason to be optomistic.
I can only imagine that it’s a money thing but hopefully, as the dust settles and Comartie has time to reflect on his experience in the valley and the team’s potential for being a contender this year, the next tweet to PP will be “It’s a done deal…I’m a Card!”

Was this reported today or in the future? Today is 3/15…Darren? Lol!
    Go cards!

I hope Antonio Cromartie comes but I hope he comes for a cheap price

He’s got a lot of physical talent. We would certainly have a more formidable duo on the ends with Mr. Cromartie. I’d prefer the other variety of Rodgers-Cromartie though.

I think it is still pure speculation that Cromartie is signing with the Cards. The twitter messages are meaningless. Let’s just wait and see.

Cromartie better try and get the best deal he can because according to Wikipedia he has 12 children with 8 different women. Those child support payments must be crazy.

Cro would be a great addition with Patrick as I’ve said. Really hope we get him.

If we can pull this off we will have a top 3 cornerback tandem. Gotta be excited about that with tyrann playing safety oh my….. This defense was already outstanding it just makes us that much better.

Cromartie is an Idiot. Anyone with any inside info on him and his stupid cousin DRC knows that. I will say this. He is the smart one, DRC is the idiot. Let them both take a walk.

If we sign Cromartie, I don’t think Powers stays. $3M for a 3rd corner is too high. They’ll bring in more DB’s either way.

    @ Steve,

PP helped out Tyrann Mathieu last year so perhaps he could help out Cromartie and the kids this year?

  13. By NJAzCardsFan on Mar 16, 2014 | Reply

Tweets are BS…. Dansby tweeted Dockett like he was returning and where did he end up- in Cleveland. Hopefully where he will be watching the Cards in the SB in Az….

I wouldn’t get too obsessed with Cromartie and he is 30 and injury prone, nor would i let players play GM as it usually doesn’t work out well. Remember when Fitzgerald was pushing for Kevin Kolb, that did not turn out so well. Draft a CB and you will be fine.

Cromartie would be great. There’s no doubt about it, we need an all star defense in this division. What we don’t need is to spend a fortune on him.

I believe the Cardinals will pose a serious threat to not only the Hawks and 49ers this year as the best team in the NFL, the team to beat this year is the Green Bay Packers, I could easily see the NFC championship being played in Glendale followed by the Superbowl with the home town boys winning it all!

Lets bring back: Eric Winston and Yeremiah Bell on cheap contracts.
Lets sign: ILB Larry Foote, CB Antonio Cromartie
Restructure contracts: Carson Palmer, Jerraud Powers, & Darnell Dockett.

    RE: Restructures

You need to understand the chances they ask a guy to restructure is incredibly unlikely at this point. And Palmer is essentially in the last year of his contract.

Darren, if we do sign A-cro who has best CB tandem?

    CARDS- PP21 and A. Cromartie
    PATS – Revis and B.Browner
    SEAHAWKS- Sherman and Maxwell

Or is there a better tandem in the NFL?

    Thanks Darren

@Steve…given the many children by many women that Cromartie has I guess it is fair to say that Cromartie probably is not too interested in playing SAFE. I guess that is why he is a cornerback and not a SAFEty ….or a left tackle where he would be expected to provide PROTECTION….just sayin’

  23. By ored on Mar 16, 2014 | Reply

we made our offer, now it’s on him.i think it would be a good thing, but if it does’nt happen we’ll be ok,powers was improving and cason stepped up for a couple of picks, pretty sure we draft a db this year regardless, biggest addittion has been LT and if that impoves TE play and running game then the defense can stay rested longer.champ on the cheap as a safety then draft the speedy LB from ohio st.,run a scheme for them to defend TEs,reports i’ve read that shazier is good in pass coverage and ran mid 4.30s in the 40,with him and washington,we have 2 of the fastest LBs and champ using his experience at safety sounds like it could work quite well.

Would be another in a line of signings that range, IMHO, from solid to awesome! Seems like Peterson would be happy, too.

As Cromartie’s go, I prefer this one.

  25. By Coach K on Mar 16, 2014 | Reply

At Cromartie’s age, what other team gives him the best opportunity to make a run at the Superbowl as a starter? This should not be about the money. This should be about getting the ring. This is why Palmer is here. This is why Arian’s was brought here. He knows how to get the ring baby.

We definitely need to nab Cro and a lot of cardinal fans are talking about at ”OUR” price. Y’all do know that they ain’t trying to play at what y’all getting paid no offense but it’s just the honest truth. They ain’t trying to play for veteran’s minimum either. He deserves a nice contract in the range of 4-7 M. Also, Powers I wouldn’t want to cut not only because he wasn’t too bad last year but slot corners are very valuable also and 3 M ain’t a boatload to pay for that. Ask Walter Thurmond III who just left Seattle for 3.5 with the Giants. He was a slot corner for them.

    RE: Cromartie

If he is waiting for $4M, he’s not going to get that here, I do not think. Not on a long term deal. On a one-year, perhaps.

  28. By Big Ken on Mar 17, 2014 | Reply

Sounds like Cromartie left town without signing. His deal has long been fed into the office shredder.

  29. By red bird of death! on Mar 17, 2014 | Reply

Since we lost Dansby who coulda had maybe one more epic year in him at most, I would say we need Cromartie and bring back Winston he’s damn good!

Darren, did they ever bring in Mike Jenkins?

If Cromartie deal is dead, then we should MOVE DOWN a few spots in this draft to pick 24-25 and get an extra 3rd round pick and wi5h the lower first round pick take Cornerback Kyle Fuller of Va. Tech, or even Bradley Roby, Ohio St. who could be at the bottom of round one. This makes the most sense financially and gives us the extra pick in round two or three if we can get it. I have a feeling someone will want to move up to get a quarterback in the bottom of round one. I believe all of the quarterbacks in this draft will slide like last year.

  33. By Big Ken on Mar 17, 2014 | Reply

Coach K, moving down sounds good but with the depth of THIS draft it might be hard to find any takers/partners.

4 M’s for a pro bowl cb back to back years?!?! He also played with a painful hip injury and most likely wasn’t as good as that last year because of it but still was far from bad. He pocketed 9.5 last year, he should get in the ballpark which would be around 4-7 maybe 8 M’s for 3-5 yrs. Cardinals please don’t bring me back to those cheapskate years my God!

    RE: Money

Always easy to spend someone else’s money. Are you his agent?

Your attitude is also the reason teams get in cap hell.

If ACro was going to get 8M, why doesn’t he have it from some team? There are a lot of teams out there. If the market said he was worth that, he would’ve gotten it by now. He’s not getting a long-term, big deal from the Cards. They already have Peterson who is going to be that CB.

  36. By Eazy E on Mar 18, 2014 | Reply

You see what his cousin got, we should be in the stadium of that because he ain’t that much older and he’s definitely talented like his cousin!

  37. By Eazy E on Mar 18, 2014 | Reply

I’m not trying to spend somebody else’s money, the cardinals have it! You also asked the question on why some other team hasn’t given him that money, what about DRC?! He got about 8 M yesterday because he’s a top-notch corner and you have to pay up so that’s false! Also, you know good and well that you need more than 1 good corner, what is this the 1970s? Patrick will get paid handsomely and it is well deserved but that can’t be it. You need at least 3 or 4 good cover corners to compete at a high level these days that is why I’m in favor of keeping Powers even if we get Cro.

    RE: Cromartie/FA

I get what you are saying. But if someone was willing to pay AC, say, $6M a year, don’t you think he would’ve signed already?

This feels a lot like Dansby’s situation last year. And we know what happened there.

Oh, and the Cardinals’ money is not your money. That’s the point there.

  39. By Eazy E on Mar 18, 2014 | Reply

I understand the money part but I just don’t want those old cheap days to return. Cro is better than a couple million dollar cb.

RE: “Better than a couple million dollars”

He’s not if no team is willing to pay him only that much. Supply and demand. You are only worth what someone will pay you.
