The black stripes are not a band
Posted by on June 3, 2014 – 7:32 amThose looking at the photos from yesterday’s OTA or the video seemed to notice the black stripe on the Cardinals’ helmets. OK, it wasn’t on all their helmets. It was only on the helmet of the quarterbacks. That alone should give you a hint that it was something else besides some interesting new tweak to the team’s headgear. So no, the Cardinals aren’t going for a new look (although it is kind of catchy, no?)
In fact, it’s a simple way for the coaching staff to have an easier time to see what way the quarterback’s eyes are pointed when watching some of the videoed-from-high-above practice footage every day. The shots that include all 22 players on the field can make everyone look a little small on the screen. This is just another tool to make sure Bruce Arians, assistant head coach Tom Moore, offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin and quarterbacks coach Freddie Kitchens have all the information they can in their work with the QBs.

Darn. Had my hopes up a little. I think they make the helmet look much more “classic”. Always thought the all white looked like a toy helmet.

Hey Darren,
-Other than LB Ernie Sims, will the Cardinals explore any other options at LB in free agency? Jonathan Vilma, Paris Lenon?
-With the increase in cap due to the Washington suspension and Colledge cut, will the Cardinals consider bringing in 6 time Pro Bowler DT Kevin Williams to go in rotation with Dan Williams because of Alameda Ta’amu’s injury?
-Is there anything new on Yeremiah Bell or Eric Winston on their possible returns?
-Anything new on Tyrann Mathieu’s recovery? Is there a chance he could return early in the season like week 3 or 4?
I like the black stripe on the helmet.

Darren,
Will the Cardinals have an alternate uniform this year that is different from past seasons? A tweak to the helmet would be cool, a two or three color racing stripe or all black where the current helmet is white would really make the red cardinal pop.
By the way, how do the cardinals choose an alternate uniform design?
Thanks for keeping us connected with the team.

Please nobody suggest they make this permanent. It does NOT look cool! Our jerseys are just perfect the way they are!!!

“although it is kind of catchy, no?”
You’re correct, no. Haha.
Then again, I seem to be in the minority regarding black on the uniform. The reasoning behind having the stripe is brilliant. Someone the other day said it…
“Best Coaching Staff in the NFL!”

The black stripe? Absolutely NOT. In practice? Fine. But as a consideration for an addition to our helmets? Hell to the no! They do NOT make our helmets look more “classic.” Know what they make our helmets look like? Raiders helmets, that’s what. Um…anyone interested in looking at all like the Raiders in ANY way, shape, or form? Look where THAT team has been for the past decade and get back to me. Lose the black stripe. Our helmets are AWESOME just the way they are, with that nasty red bird against a sea of white. I’m not even all that crazy about the alternative black jerseys. I sure don’t need to see anymore black in the uniform for a team named after a RED bird. The red and white is PERFECT. Leave it be.
Geez, with the black jersey, Palmer looks like he IS playing for the Raiders!

I thought maybe they ( the Cards ) were looking to do something to the helmet, maybe only when they wear the Black jersey. I like the simple black stripe.

after going back and forth…i like the stripe, only problem i could see is opponents would also could also use it against us,say a db was too far away to see his eyes, then he could use the stripe for help.

I’m surprised none of you all have said it looks too much like a steeler style with the black stripe. If anything i would rather see a Red Stripe instead.

I think it looks great, but now that you mention it. I’m glad it’s not our playing uniform. If our coaches can use it to read the quarterback’s eyes, other staffs even in games would be able to do the same. Interesting!

We need an OVERHAUL on our uniforms! Keep the logo, change our jerseys. Cmon Nike, please help us. The side panels and the white jerseys make us look like an AFL team.

Interesting to read the different opinions. Classy, not classy, etc. I always hoped for a stripe on the helmet. But had always heard when they were in St. Louis that Mr. Bidwill always said he would never allow a stripe on there. Ya hear a lot of things, so I have no idea if that is really true. Any input, anyone?

Dang, I guess I do learn something new everyday!
Makes perfect sense though, also wouldnt mind if it was applied to all the helmets as part of the new look, but just guessing that it would involve a ton of paperwork to get NFL approval, could be wrong, but they are pretty strict on that kind of thing, if im not mistaken.

I really like the Cardinals all white uniform, how about all black, or a combination
of black with red. Their current uniforms are great and would only want to see
others on occasion. For instance, how about the old cardinal logo on the helmet
or a cardinal bird football player running on the sleeve. Red or black helmets
might be cool. Like I said though, only once in a while.
